What Do People Want To See Demoed On First Completed Prototype?

Streammygame might port their app though, making WoW playable on the Pandora if you have a fast network.

I would start maybe with a browser web, just to pick up the interest of a large number of people, not only gamers. Then I would switch to games, starting with the oldest systems to the newest (not that you need all the systems of course (but Amiga is a must)).
Something like starting with a pacman, tetris, card games (for the "I am the office" gamers) then something more elaborate and so on...
The video would show for instance, Nes , Mame, Neogeo, Amiga, Scumm, PC (Quake 3).
You would want to see different types of games (puzzle / platform/ shoot'em up / fight / car race / adventure / fps) so that everybody can relate to 1 thing at least.
Then you can finish with applications , browser again, mail, ...

Then you would see the Pandora put in a package with my address on it, and I would get it a few days later.

Sounds like a plan to me...

+1. Now I would be interested in seeing what you have so far of your MMO running on the Pandora. ;)

Wouldn't be much to look at since I'm still laying the groundwork for actually building a game on top. Even then I wouldn't expect to see anything using Python and OpenGL ES working on an actual Pandora until some time after it actually ships. At least, as far as I know there's still no actual (good) way to use OpenGL ES from Python.
Ah, I see. Looks like I'll have to wait for that. ;)

I would like to see lots and lots of things, but I don't want to see them until the Pandora is in my hands. :p

Yeah, we've seen Warcraft II pictures, but videos are always so much nicer! We've yet to see *any* videos of DosBox running (EvilDragon said he was going to but never got around to it), so that's why I think it'd be good to show it, especially running a game that's going to require lots of power to run through DosBox (like Warcraft II).

I know it's impossible, but shame it's not World of Warcraft. Imagine the response if that game could run on the Pandora?
I hate to sound like PoisonedV yelling at myself here, but I DO NOT WANT the kind of people who would buy a UMPC just to play WoW anywhere near this forum.

Errr... okay. Why the negative attitude and childish shouting?

Anyway, I would like to see the Pandora's video playback demo'd - testing out different fileformats and sizes, as I would like a portable video player. And more Sega Megadrive emulation (Gunstar Heroes and Ranger-X).

N64
DOSBox
Mugen
Atari 2600
Commodore 64
Neo Geo

Online Media Playing (Quicktime, DivX, etc)
Two-player mode for all emus through bluetooth controllers

And unbelievably:
DreamCast (at least as much as the PSP NullDCe has accomplished)

PSX (something heavy side in the graphics department)
SNES (maybe someone playing Killer Instinct with the builtin controls, would show what they're good for)
DOSBox (something mouse controlled using the touch screen, like WC2)

I am not so anxious about software demos, whatever is not available at the beginning will become available (where feasible) after a while.

What I really want to find out first thing is how sensitive the wi-fi is. As we know, it is expensive to get a pro company to design a good wi-fi antenna so instead this was done as a trial-and-error thing, the way I understand it.

So, I want to know how good this turned out. One of the major reasons my Nokia tablet is so useful is because its wi-fi sensitivity is incredibly good. I can reach free hotspots all over town, without having to be very close to the AP. With some other portable wi-fi devices I have used it would be like walking in the desert in comparision - instead of a forest of hotspots there would be the occasional oasis with a single hotspot, and far between them too.

PSX emulator running Wipeout (any version) would be my preferred demo of choice .. as soon as that is running and playable, all else is irrelevant. :)

Bluetooth connectivity with a phone. My 770 was really good when it came to this, as it made a connection when I opened the cover and closed it again when closed the cover. I'd really REALLY like this type of functionality at some point in the products lifecycle.

I kind of just want to see enough to evaluate the use of the Pandora in its case, kind of a tour of the hardware, the opening and closing of the case while going in and out of sleep mode, and the controls in action -- something we have not been able to see so far on the dev boards. Also, things like the stability of the screen when using the stylus, and actual use of the gaming controls and the keyboard too, whenever they are available. Like a few others, I am not that concerned about which software is being run, since we have been getting a pretty good stream of videos about developments in the software area.

It would actually be useful to see the application installation procedure, since we have heard a lot about it but never seen it in action.

Finally, I would like to see it play Donkey Kong and Pitfall Harry from the Atari 2600. Why not?

quake 3 will probably attract the interest of gaming people, so it should be included. I believe that it would be good to show also come office application for the UMPC / casual gamers crowd, and then it would be nice to see some big emulation classic; if there is an homebrew game already ready for a demo it would be great. That should cover most of the typical Pandora usages, and would be a good choice for a video that will be probably be shown outside of the community.

Those apps should also be enough to show the usage of the keyboard and gaming controls, that are the things that we haven't seen yet, so that it would show something new to people who has already watched all of the previous videos many times in the privacy of their rooms :)

MPlayer - working at Full-screen would also be great as the Pandora has great battery life and using the second SDHC slot for movies would be cool.

The last video I saw of MPlayer on the Pandora only had it working at 2/3 of resolution.

MPlayer is great as you can playback shed loads of formats including MP4 and MKV formats

You probably won't see that in the first video.

That's a possibility, seeing as how it is already ported.

This would be more likely to be put under that unbelievably category than the Dreamcast emulator is. MUGEN is not open source. You will never see the MUGEN engine on the Pandora unless someone uses some combination of qemu to emulate x86 and get it working like that, or if Elecbyte magically reappears and either A) Ports it to the Pandora or B) Releases their source.

There are two projects that I know of that are working to reverse engineer the MUGEN engine, and you might see one of those make it on the Pandora, but they still have a ways to go.

MUGEN is something you most likely will never see on the Pandora, no matter how much we wish otherwise.
