Got my GP2X last night along with a 4gb card and some 2900mah batteries are on the way (my parents gave it to me early) and it's incredible. I'm actually liking the joystick but I HATE how easily it smudges. I'm thinking I might get one of these, as the screen seems pretty easily scratchable. http://www.shieldzone.com/item_description/GMGP2X.html

A $4 eyeglass cleaning cloth > a $15 screen protector

I have a eyeglass cleaning cloth, but I'd rather not wipe my screen all the time. I've used this company's products before for my iPod and cell phone, and they are vurtually unscratchable and they do not smudge. It's hard for me not to touch the screen, because my pockets smudge it too.

My iPod is black. But I guess I will stop putting it in my pocket, I've got an old GBA case that someone has highly reccomended on here. Many, many times.

I Got my GP2X like 3 or 4 weeks ago and after 1 month of use i can give my toughts:

First of all I bought a New GP2X F-100-$200.00 w/case and Tv out(I think is the F-100 2nd or 3rd revition);its not the MKII.I Bought also an Energizer Battery Charger w/4 batteries included 2500 mah $23 dlls,1 512mb Kingston sd $15 dlls & 1 1GB Sandisk Ultra II $33 dlls,GP2X Official Case(included) and TV-Out Cable(Included).So in the end i spent like $270 dlls

I didn't bought the GP2X F-100 MKII because it was $50 more dollars and it didn't included the Case and the TV-Out.

I Mostly use my GP2X for NeoGeo Emulation and it works perfectly well :D I am very happy with the NeoGeo games and i think this Emulator was worth my Money .People tend to complain about the Joystick and to be honest at the beggining it was horrible because the diagonals and the grip but then i did the paper thing and it works perfectly well;Still I order 2 new MKII replacement caps just to try the new ones.

I saw some complaints about the Screen Resolution,Glitches and stuff like that but for me the LCD screen is really great and it has an awesome viewing angle.I got impressed because i could play even in a sunny day  That's right even in a sunny day; Of course Sunlight cannot hit directly the screen but even when it hits directly my screen i can play many games.OOH and i live in Mexico so its always sunny in here, even in December or November the Sun is strong so GP2X owners from England or UK PLease Don't Fuikng complaint about the Screen in your 2 days a year sunny days B) .

People usually complaint that the system looks like a toy or that they feel nothing inside the console but WTF do you wan't a Heavy brick or an advanced 3 billion investment hardware like the PSP who gets scratches from nowhere.I'm happy with the materials my GP2X was made because its thin and it adapts easily to my hands of course it can have better materials but its not heavy, its thin, the plastic is strong(it felt and still like new) and the buttons aren't that bad.

The design of the case is not good because i want a Good spot to put my AA replacements(If I put them in the net it can scratch my screen) and it would be good if the case has like a stand so i can watch videos or hear music without having the GP2X in my hands.

I haven't tried the TV-Out cable because my TV doesn't have S-Video and the adapter from S-Video to RCA is $20 bucks so ill wait.

From some reviews that i saw i read that a lot of people were complaining because of the batteries not lasting enough or getting sucked to fast but i bought some Rechargeables(2500 Mahs) and they last like from 3 to 4 hours and i have 8(16 hours of gameplay) ,so in portable consoles i really prefer to use AA because you can have several with you for long bus trips and in other situations.

To resume everything i just said i think that the GP2X is really a great portable system and it has more advantages than anyone can imagine for a $170 dlls system;People like to see the disadvantages and compare them to the advantages from the PSP and they are wrong but at the same time they have a point because both systems are almost at the same price right now,But these are different systems with different functions and in the end is the person who will decide what handheld to get.

Will i recommend the GP2X:Yes of course;I have 30 years of gaming history in the palm of my hand.

Got mine in the mail on Thursday-(came from play-asia, I really wanted one from craig, but with xmas on the way and 2 kids money is a little tight).

I did my homework- so everything is just as I expected- best $200 I have ever spent-

Doom, BOR, Quake, and Duke 3D are up and running-

I can't get anything in mame to work- but I haven't really spent much time on it, so I'm sure I can get it going-

Only other problem I have had is with the TV out- the resolution was really crappy- I only tried it once and it was with BOR. I'm sure that It's something on my end and I'll get it fixed once I mess with it a bit more-

I used to code a bit when I was back in high school, and I've been gaming for 20 years so I'm really excited about this console and community-

You're MAME problem is probably a rom problem. The GP2X version of MAME is based on MAME .34, so you need the older .34 roms. You could also just convert your roms back to .34, but I don't know how to do that.

I had that same problem. That sucks for me cause I have the entire MAME set, but I guess they're newer than .34 Any idea when the 2X mame will be up to date?

yeah- I looked at it my set is not .34- sucks as I've downgraded to dialup since getting my original set-

Sometimes you can "downgrade" your set by using clrmamepro and the .dat file for 0.34.

It doesn't work for everything, unfortunately.

If you were in Australia, I'd whip you over a DVD. Are you?

Hello everybody! I am really excited to become part of this community. For those of you who don't know I am a hobbiest game programmer(primarily 3d) and want to start developing for the gpx2.
While Im waiting for mine to arrive I want to know a little bit more about programming specifics.
I am currently aware that gpx2 uses the framebuffer to render. does the sdk include 3d rendering capability's if not id be more than willing to port over my current software rendering engine(quite primitive though).

Also is there any openGL es support as Id think it be really good for this device as pocket pcs are now implementing it.
If so Id really like to see if A blender 3d port is posssible as I have blender pocket on my pocket pc and pc as one of my primary 3d modelling tool. Also another thing I know that the gpx2 has 2 cpu's one with less cache used for video processing.
does the sdk allow for programs to run utilizing the 2 cpu's?
there's many more questions I want to ask but this should be enough for you to answer for now.

Thanks everyone!

damn, pleas use this
