Just a Sandisk 1 GB - I'm not sure what other details to provide, as they all look the same to me ;)

Exchange it for an A-data 4 GB card. 1 gig is WAY too small anyway. You will fill that very fast especially if you use video, and emus.

Hi guys! Just ordered myself one of these from gp2x.co.uk after reading about it on Slashdot and checking out this forum, the wiki, the file archive and so on :) I havn't owned a handheld in almost 10 years since my Gameboy, my mates have had various ones over the years which didn't impress me at all for the cost. Can't wait :)

Welcome aboard! While waiting, Take a little time to read the "I need help files" to familiarize yourself with what interest you. Use the search. It will help you to get off to a good start. There is plenty of friendly help here in the GP2X community. :)

There's plenty of unfriendly help as well, but just ignore those. :D

It just occured to me that I still haven't written anything here yet since I got mine about two weeks ago.

Well, I got it. I like it. I play it every day. Nethack is awesome on it. So are the C64 games. Perfect res and size for 'em. Nice community, as long as you obey the rules of common courtesy. Dangerous forums, though. Too easy to get involved.

I'm new here, just got my GP2X today, i've never seen so mates this impressed by a handheld before. Gunstar Hero's on the go is just too cool. and i like the fact that i don't need to convert my movies/porn into mp4 to play the things on go :D

overall, so far i'd say it's probably the purchase of the year for me so far.

slightly off topic, anyone else managed to get the SNES emu running nicely, most i seem to be able to manage is a choppy framerate without sound.

could this be that i need to overclock the unit usin a seperate app for the snes emu? as i noticed that the mega drive emu has an overclocking option within it.

my unit only seems to be able to cope with 250mhz btw, will this hinder me in getting decent framerates?

You are going to need a OC script such as this

Code:
#!/bin/sh

/mnt/sd/cpu_speed.gpe 1 3 275
cd /mnt/sd/games/emulators/snes/
./squidgesnes.gpe
sync

cd /usr/gp2x/
exec /usr/gp2x/gp2xmenu

Goldin, if you can only reach 250, then you'll need to change the setting in the script g4m3r posted (the number 275 in the third line).

Also note the script has to be a text file with UNIX LINE ENDINGS (very important, use Programmer's notepad or the like), and named something.gpe (SNES.gpe or whatever). Also make sure the path is the same as where your emu is.

For more info and a handy automated script generator, check out this thread: http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showtopic=30055

And 250 should be absolutely fine. You will definitely notice the speed increase for SquidgeSNES.

cool, thanks for the tips, seems like a cool community thus far. hope fully once i get upto speed on knowledge of the system i'll be able to contribute instead of askin questions :)

Yesterday i received my unit too! :D After a long wait it finally arrived, and i must say that i am quite inpressed by the GP2X. I already tested a lot of its functions, and thus far everything works as it should. Played some games, watched some video's, listened to some music, etc. The unit meets all of my spectations, and it does even more than that!

The joystick problem is a little overrated it think though. Personaly i don't have real problems with it. It could be better, but still i think the stick functions fine. A pad would be the best i guess, but hey, life is full of choices, even for GPH. The only real "problem" i can see is the viewing angle of the screen. But that's a thing that most LCD screens still have. Even my Samsung 930BF aint the best thing in the world. I know that there are a couple of different types of LCD screens, and in my Samsung and in the GP2X they used the one's with lower costs, and a worse wiewing angle. It's viewing angle VS. speed most of the times. And i rather have extra speed that a better viewing angle!

The screen is real good though! Super bright and all. But when something is going on with some darker colors then you have to adjust your viewing angle to the screen, else you won't see very much. With brighter and more colorful colors it's a whole different thing though. Also i would have liked it better when the AC and USB connectors were someplace else.

In total this system rocks hard, and kicks ass even harder! I have never seen such a multifunctional handheld system for a price this low in my life. And believe me, i've seen a lot. On top of that you have a very great community with lots of nice people that care a lot about each other! :D Give yourselfs a nice warm applausse

Bloody hell!

Just ordered my GP2X - and though I'd join in the fun on the forum!

But when I went to enter my chosen name it said name already taken

NOW - I am the ONLY markopoloman in the world, so I thought 'who stole my name'

BUT then I remembered joining a forum back when I puchased my GP32 from GBAX!

So on entering my name and standard password................. Hey presto!

I am already a member!

Just a shame some bugger stole my GP32

Oh well - nice to be back and great to have yet another forum to take up my time

First post (ello ello all). I purchased my GP32X (original model (first model, whatever you call it)) used from a guy on Anadtech. I hadnt planned on buying one, hadnt even heard of them (he also had X-Box 360 games for sale). After reading about these units I had to have one. I was a bit leary as it was a first gen one and had read alot about getting a second gen one. Mine has the DAVE C joystick, so I have no idea what the old one was like, but the current one works excellent as far as I can see. Right now i cant see a reason to own any other hand held, this unit does it all. I cant get over how good it works. All the minor problems I have heard about (yes I have been reading here alot since I ordered it). The Joystick, well with the DaveC cap it works as good as Any other handheld I have have (PSP, GBA, Lynx, etc) the possiblity of bad workmanship, cant see any on my machine, other then feeling a bit light for what it does, it sure seems to be put together great. The screen flicker, I cant see it, in fact for all the praise the PSP screen got, I would say I prefer this one. Battery life, not sure on this one, didnt last long on regualr batteries (but I expected that), otherwise I have had it plugged in, I do have some rechargables, plan on trying them soon (but from reading Im expecting 2 to 3 hours). overall I cant say enough good about this machine. I have read a few negative comments, but I cant see how anybody could fualt this machine. I will say if you like to buy $30+ games, or need pokeman, or the latest releases, this machine is not for you. But if like to play games, and dont care if they are GTA, Pokeman-rainbow12 edition, this machine rocks, there are so many fun games on the systems it can emulate, nobody could play um all.

With all that said, is there a Noob faq? a noob getting started area? I cant seem to locate one, there is awsome help in the forums, but I cant seem to find a genreal "getting started" type thing.

I had thought since I like this machine so much, and am starting from scratch I may make some type of NOOB page, who knows.

I cant say how cool this little machine is (heck it had me hooked at Black Tiger (MAME)).

I'm glad you like your GP2X! :)
There are two sections that may help you, the "I need help" and "FAQ" subsections.

Mine arrived this morning. Haven't used it yet as I am still waiting for the batterys to charge. Plugged 'em in at 10 still getting two red lights...

I just ordered mine today from play asia it I hope it comes by saturday shipping cost enough for it to. I bought one so I could have a portable SNES because I think that has been my dream since I was 7 or 8. I considered waiting for the xpg mini but this cost only a hair more and seems like it can do alot more. I may still get a mini though just to have a pocket sized SNES. Anyway Im just counting down the hours.
