I Just Got My Gp2x!!!

You can use clrmamepro to revert most roms if you use the right .dat file. Unfortunately, I haven't done this myself (I just dled the 0.34 romset-shhh-) so you'll have to do a search on the boards for a how-to.

Edit: DaveC, is GNGEO meant to use the 0.34 romset? Some games worked for me and others didn't, but roms from later versions did. Do you know which romset is generally best for GNGEO?

Greetings,

Gatorooze, I was researching this myself and Zector posted hat you could use the latest Mame release (1.06 at the time)to create a dat file and have clrmame rebuild just Neo GEO to a folder. I havent tried this myself since Im still awaiting my unit...........will it ever come!?!? But its worth a go!

Cheers for all the advice :)

On the mame front, will need to find a good site which shows what version the roms are. Anything pre 0.43 should work ok. Is that right?

Re. the cpc emulator. I have downloaded some .dsk files from a good website, but the gp2x caprice emu only works with .sna files. Does anyone know where I can get .sna files from?

And on the amiga front, need to order a kick.rom from somewhere.

Thanks for all the help and welcome messages - looking forward to getting some games loaded!

Thanks

Brad

With SquidgeSNES, you really need to overclock to get the best out of it. I use a script to run it at 275mhz, but try whatever your unit can handle. The autoframeskip hacked version seems fastest. Many games run fullspeed with sound (e.g. SF2 Turbo, Contra 3, Mario World), though some are still a little slow or skippy (e.g. Ninja Warriors, Mario Kart, Axelay). The emu does still need a lot of work, but I wouldn't call it poor by a long shot.

Strange...I was wondering why almost all games are slow on my snes while others are claiming it works fullspeed for many games. I just checked those games that you say work fullspeed with sound (SF2 Turbo and Super Mario World) and both don't get near full speed. I get under 10FPS for SF2 and between 20-30 for Super Mario World).

I'm running the squidgesnes 0.37a FS hack, In my settings I have the following checked: "Show FPS", Frameskip set to 0 (since it's automatically set as 1 with the hack), "audio processer enable", "use absoute rom dir". Why is mine not running full speed?

Check out this thread: http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showtopic=29626 (post#12)

Oh and btw, there is now a new Super-SquidgeSNES release out today which will also speed things up!

Thanks, but I was already doing that to overclock...so I'm still not sure why I'm not seeing the speed others are. But thanks for the headsup about the new version...I'll check that out as well.

Hm, maybe your overclock script isn't set up right? To test, just run the emu with and without the script(@275mhz) -- if there's no difference in speed, then the script isn't working.

Also, make sure frame limiter is off (not sure if that matters). And with the autoFS hack it shouldn't matter what your FS is set at, as manual FS is disabled.

You can order a replacement cap from www.gp2x.co.uk, not sure if they are better though.

I ordered my gp2x from www.gp2x.co.uk and it came with 2 caps. One that has a GP2X lable (written sideways) on it, and another which has no lable, but just a raised bump in the middle. I had assumed the one with the label on it was the better one since it was attached when I opened the box, but after playing for days with it, then trying the other I've found I like the other better.

Thanks - just checked - i have got the second one. Silly question, but how do I remove the cap?

Sorry - me again.

Got my GP2X working ok - the only problem is the sound.

Every game I play I just get a load of white noise in the background.

I can faintly hear the original game music in the background.

Can anyone help?

Should point out that its not just a hiss but a mass of speaker distorting noise

:(

Another person had this issue a few days ago, it might be a faulty unit. Try reading/posting in the I Need Help forum and see what they said about the other chap's problem?

Is the sound problem with everything that you play on the unit?

Edit: Never mind, sounds like the unit is faulty...I don't know though.

Dont' really want to send it back, if I can solve it.

It only does it on games, not on movies and music. Its like a loud static noise.

Can anyone help?

AWESOME!!! :D AWESOME!!! :D AWESOME!!!!
I spent my time anticipating the arrival of my GP2X with reading the threads in the “I need Help” area of the GP2X section and reading help files that come with the emulators! I also used search to find a lot of helpful things! Guess what??
It paid off. I had the Neo Geo emu up and working within the first 2 hours that I received my unit! Followed by DrMD, Hu, and SNES. ;)
AWESOME!!! :D
It took a couple of games to get the hang of the directional pad. It is almost like an analog stick.
AWESOME!!! :D
I would recommend a card reader to anyone that plans on getting one of these babies. Save those batteries! Like the GP32, those batteries are sucked dry with any transfer of files. Well it shortens their charged time.

Is there a sweet spot to listen to the sound coming from the speakers? It seems that there is and it is not at the angle that the screen is best viewed. Easily remedied by ear buds.
Did I tellyou that this system is AWESOME?!! :D
This is the best portable emulation system out there. IMHO I predict great things for the 2X. With a free and open system like this, there is going to be great homebrew and great emulators!!

My biggest problem that I am having right now is 1 gig is not enough!! I have only had this thing since this past Wednesday and my card is full. I haven't even had a chance to try out any homebrew or mame!!

This is an exciting system! I am completely blowed away by the 2X. I cannot get over the fact that I am playing my favorite Neo Geo games in my hands at full speed with sound!!!!
Did I tell that this system is AWESOME!!! :D
