Quite a bit for you to read!

Well they can't cripple industry out of fear, that's ridiculous. If everyone just starts shipping stuff anyway, what are they gonna do? Arrest every single person?

The Airlines are afraid of fires on the airplane. (Thanks for that Samsung ...)

And Hi FaeMinx :)

Concern over batteries on planes predates the Samsung Note 7 existing.

Notebook batteries were already causing issues in 2006:

Apple MacBook "exploding" (expanding/failing) batteries in 2013:

FAA warning on cargo shipments October 14, 2015:

FAA ban on cargo shipments February 23, 2016:

Note 7 released: August 19, 2016.

Note 7 banned on air travel in US October 14, 2016:

So - in the context here - bulk shipments of batteries and devices were already banned from passenger aircraft prior to the Note 7 fiasco.

Not just a Samsung thing.

Yes but won't banning them from cargo planes as well cripple industry and business?

EDIT: Nevermind, as cargo on passenger planes.

Yes, because I did wonder. What is the difference between shipping batteries via airplane and simply having your mobile phone on your person as a traveller?

Same danger.

If your phone battery (singular) catches fire while on your person a flight attendant can grab a fire extinguisher and spritz you out.
If a battery in the cargo hold catches fire, packed in with other batteries, there's potentially no one to stop it before it gets completely out of hand.

Fixed that. Needed to reflect the industrial nature of bulk component cargo shipments.

We're all better off that these bulk orders can't go on passenger planes anymore.

Just curious if someone working on this project could weigh in with a vague ETA: would it be safe to assume that the Pyra would be available before winter of this year (2017)? Really excited to see this beast in action, especially while traveling on plane flights.

Well I'm hoping to take one with me in August when I'm going on a holiday.
That's IF it gets finished beforehand

Holding ones breath while waiting for a Pyra can be very unhealthy.

A 'deadline' is one thing that this project has never proposed.

That said, it seems to be getting much much closer. They're still debugging with real hardware, but in multiple locations now. Maybe consider it 'Alpha X Testing'? I would put a number in for X, but I'm unsure what board revision combination they're working with.

I rather wait and have an awesome device that lasts for a couple of years than a rushed out device that will break apart 1 day after its 1 year warranty runs out (applies to about 99% of all smartphones nowadays...).
Although I bought the GPD Win to try it out, I do not (and never) expect it to last a long time. And spare parts for cheap electronics are just not part of the concept of dish out electronics
So I can be quite patient regarding the release date of the pyra

What is left anyways? The software, the eMMC issue and the keymat right? Or am I missing something? Feels really close now but I've had that feeling for a while now :p

afaik the eMMC issue turned out to be very insignificant anyway so that's basically sorted. Also there was something about the case too
