Xgp Xgpmini Spec

Actually, I play Genesis on my 2X because it fits in my pocket and it's tougher for me to get caught with it at work. My laptop is a bit more conspicuous.

Hmm, I think that may have been your point, though. I am a bit slow...

icurafu: Bad comparison. Genesis emulators on the PC convey some graphical advantages, yes, but *nothing* on the magnitude of acclerated versus nonaccelerated PSX.

Will the XGP have an open SDK???
I don't know why they would put Linux on it as standard if not...

I like them both, but would probably go for the mini; both look better and to be of better build quality than the GP2X, but only time can tell ;).

I would bet that the xgp uses the exact same soc as the gp2x, so we could archive limited compatibility.

First i would have bet they use vrender 3d, but then i noticed that they state that they have NVIDIA listed as partner, but magic eyes as well, so ib et its the same chip as in the gp2x + a nvidia gpu.

Also i guey that the "big" xgp uses magic eyes' linux, so it could be gp2x compatible out of the box!

Nope; some games booted WinCE with the game, but the Dreamcast wasn't sold with it.

nVidia owns a software company specific to developing OpenGL ES applications. Maybe they have a deal with them.

I must admit, it would be interesting if they had a deal with nVidia to use one of the GoForces. Even the current day GoForce 5500 would be nice.

If you go to the game and demo page you will find Quake3, which is interesting.

Guess I'll be the only one buying a XGP mini. :D Couldn't care less though.

I see only positive things about this XGP mini. I love Li-on and I hate AA. The only thing that could make the XGP mini fail for me if it'll have a horrible booting time like the GP2X. Time will tell.

I also noticed that a lot of you folks are going to SELL your previous systems if they're going to buy a XGP. Seriously... I don't see the reason to SELL them. The GP2X is a great handheld and it'll continue to be one. It's improving cause of the awesome community. It's FUN to own multiple things.

...

Or you guys need to get off your lazy arses and get a job. :p

Until you have to replace the battery and find it very expensive and hard to get especially from a small Korean company. Or until you are playing it and not near a place to charge and have to stop because you can't just swap out the used batteries for a new set. Then you will realize how custom li-ion batteries suck balls. When will people learn

Because I rather pay one heavy price then paying a lot of small ones. Now don't start about rechargable AA batteries (incase you were planning to :p), cause they're the same story as a Li-On battery. You can't charge them up everywhere either.

And people will learn when they realise they should always charge up their batteries before they go on a long road trip. And the longest road trip I ever had was 8 hours, and ofcourse I'm not playing my handheld(s) every single minute of it. :)

I have never had any trouble with a Li-on battery. And yes, I am person who's on the move a lot with his handhelds. So I don't know what you people do with your Li-Ons, but I'm all cool with them. :D

I'm with dave on this one. My GBA SP is pretty nice, but I have had it run out on planes and trains before with no means of charging it. I've also noticed that it lasts about half the time it did when it was new.

My gp2x will never have either problem because:

1) I have 8 x 2500 mah batteries and together I can get almost 24 hours of continuous use out of them

2) if they start to play up I can replace them for about £20-30 at any number of shops. By the time I need to they will undoubtedly be cheaper and higher capacity.

For a cost:performance ratio you can't beat Ni-MH.

They are NOT the same. That is exactly what I mean when I say "when will people learn".

Can you get custom made li-ions anywhere? No. You can get standard NiMH AAs almost anywhere.

While you can't charge AAs anywhere you CAN charge more than one set and bring them with you , or in a pinch pick some up at the corner store. You CAN'T do the same with those dreadful custom built-in ones. When built-in batteries run out of charge you are done.

When the XGP/Mini unit is discontinued (and it will be, it is GP we are talking about, not Sony or Nintendo) where will you get that special battery from? Yeah, you won't, bin it.

Another fact, if you let the li-ion battery run out of charge and sit for short awhile uncharged it will become unchargeable (dead). It becomes useless if you don't charge it, and it wears out if you do charge it. So damned if you do damned if you don't with li-ion. It would be one thing if they made standard size li-ions that you can get easily and are easily replaceable, but they are not, they are custom SNAFU.

In the XGPmini's case, li-ion is better than if it uses AA. The efficiency of using batteries is not worth having a huge bulge out of such a small handheld.

The GBA Micro is small, and it uses internal battery. People bought it, though I don't know how many.

At least the GBA Micro is Nintendo, you at least can get a battery replacement easy for it. The mini doesn't matter to me, even if it had a built-in cold fusion generator that lasted forever the screen is way too small for me.
