WiFi, tests and CircuitCo (2011-06-17)

I've already said goodbye to the money. Either one day I open my mailbox and there's a Pandora in it or not.

glad I'm not the only one thinking like this... personally if it wasn't like that I'dd surely already had asked a refund and bough whatever moded psp, 3ds and thing like that

I hope they don't spend to much time or money trying to sue cc. Suing companies in the US is a joke, they can just claim bankrupt, not have to pay opt and then reopen business in another name. I'm in the construction business and this sort of thing happens all the time. Granted electronic business may be different but, of the dozens of times we've rightfully sued for not getting paid, we've only collected a couple of times and it's always for half what was owed and received years later. We only ever sue if there is a clear breach of _signed_ contracts and you can forget about lost profits, courts only make judgments for actual dollar amounts agreed upon in writing on said signed contracts. Of course if you have a good lawyer then you can get more but they also cost more to use, a _lot_ more. Combine that with court costs and suing quickly becomes not worth it.

Threatening to sue on the other hand does work sometimes. What works better is if you have some kind of leverage. Like what kasp said might be a good idea, but you have to be careful that you don't break any laws yourself there.

I just read on PandoraPress where Foxblock mentioned to someone the new Wifi issues were due to corroded boards due to C.C. taking so long. So how do those corroded boards affect those of us who are still waiting. Is the corrosion something correctable? How did they corrode? In other words, if they don't just spontaneously corrode as everyone with one would then have to worry, what exactly did they do and what problems will this ultimately cause?

I don't know how he came to that conclusion. Unless I missed a step somewhere. Craig did mention something about corroded boards from them taking too long, but that will cause more problems than just the wifi. Corroded boards, pre-populated, are usually useless and generally won't work at all: it's very difficult to solder on rust.

edit: which is to say, once they've been soldered, there's little to fear from the trace amounts of corrosion going on. It may be more difficult to solder LEDs to the spare slots, for example, but you can always clean the traces by hand to make it "easy" again.

FINALLY

thank goodness CC is out of the picture! I'll probably not get my pandy before next christmas (unless i go premium...but even for that i might not) but the feeling of justice settles my stomach well.

Good man! No more Mr Pacif Resistance!

Dude, we don't care what model you have that your program automatically advertises itself with.

It's just going to be a hell of a lot of work for Ed (and the rest of us) which we didn't really need, but it's happening, CC have gone too far this time.

I'm up for it!

I will fight as good as I can!
Yeah! Show that Fake irresponsible Tony Stark who's boss!

I bought a premium June 16. What does that mean for me? I know everyone is working hard and I can be patient. I am just Curious.

When you have boards that are going to be soldered in multiple instances you want the time between the initial manufacturing / soldering and the final time to be as short a duration as possible (especially with custom electronics like the pandora). The longer the duration the more oxidation takes place resulting in higher resistance between componants. This can cause all sorts of issues from malfunctioning segments on the board to a shortened battery life in the final product.

All of these issues will usually compound to a shorter life-span of any given electronic product or its sub-parts.

@OPT: Good luck in finding a reliable assembly partner. Make sure that you get all testing equipment back from them in working order after they have finished Batch 1.

I won't be satisfied with a refurbished board. New boards only for Batch 2 please. I don't want inferior hardware in my pandy.

"Dude" I don't care you don't care. Even if I did, why bother to switch it of seeing as you don't care?

Craig we know you sent 300 boards back to CC iro none working wifi - why not give the option of receiving a unit with one of these boards?

I am sure a fair number would go for this - if they want wifi then I believe we already have a solution or 2 via USB.

Sounds like this has to be done.

Wouldnt it be cheaper to send another OPteam representative? Suing will cost more time and money on the project.

Actually, there's probably a sufficient amount of evidence that a lawyer will take it pro-bono, $500 up front to evaluate the case and to write a nasty "we're suing you, here's all of our supporting documents", and 4 months later CC writes a big cheque to just make the problem go away. The lawyer gets a substantial portion, of course, but the amount OPT gets is more than 0, which is exactly what it would be if they decided to just drop it. Most importantly, once they start the filing process, there isn't really a whole lot for OPT to get involved with: the lawyer handles the paper work.

Whoever said it is right: the threat of a lawsuit is actually more powerful than the lawsuit itself. The only problem would be if CC actually thinks they could win the lawsuit (which, given what we've been told, unless ED was lying about the emails he received) in which case Craig at least would actually have to show up in court, which could take weeks or even months.
