Lets see we got a welder/ Blacksmith/ a steampunk maniac with mechanical knowledge, A shaman basically, woodworker, A general labourer. Numerous people who could be defense people... The venus project implies heavy technology which sadly we might need to skip out on if this community were to emerge. ( and I'm saying we don't want a massive community just enough to create a village.) the biggest issues would be creating a sustainable source of power if we desire the use of electricity (I could personally survive without it, but I'm a bit crazed..) A water source, (either river or well.. but land with brooks and such are heavily regulated with governmental agencies, and a way to pay default property taxes.. Income taxes and other stuff shouldn't be that much of an issue, and honestly if the only income is used to pay taxes for a large group of people it shouldn't be an issue.
The best way to make houses in situation would either be to scavenge..Or build partially or fully underground homes... The savings of doing so is impressive in the long term as the earth insulates quite well keeping things a rather steady and nice temperature. Local fauna would need to be taken account of what can thrive naturally in the region.. and anything that we desire we must either make ourselves, scavenge for cheap,or free (Ever see the free section of craigslist? I'm convinced you could gather enough supplies to build a house with a tank of gas.) A year round garden would be a must. But with the way we make buildings must be done in an more antiquated style,( Think more of old european style, or frontier days.)
So basically the first 4 months would be the roughest. it would require straight up grunt work to dig the foundation of the village. resource planing and execution of plans. Planing ahead is where this would either succeed or fall apart. Also we'd need to get used to the lack of money... In the community.. So food and stuff would be community based... rather then individual to give us all a shot at surviving . Meals wouldn't be fancy but hearty and healthy. Yes we'd need to raise livestock and yes we'd need to slaughter and process some. It'd take time to get adjusted to it, but I feel after awhile it would pay off. There'd be less overall burdens and less bullshit I feel. After a year though depending on how much "chaos" emerges from conflict of interests we'd either have a functioning society *crosses finger* or a divided community nightmare which will fail due to people not agreeing getting nothing done and nothing positive occurring.
Yes I'd also be figuring out how to produce ale and other such things that helped people survive back in the old days... Damn I wish i had my post apoc book on my pandora now.. I could write some more into it. h34r: I feel I've put way to much thought into this idea... granted I'm the person whose figured out entire economies and governments of fictional nations in my fictional stories.. Not sure if I'm smart... or just plain insane
Edit; PS if anybody wants to discuss this with me just message me I'd love a discussion on such a topic matter...
