Steam Deck (using SteamOS) handheld by Valve

Well it probably helps in this case that both ends are basically speaking pci-e, so there's not even a voltage difference to be converted between. The only surprising thing to me is that they've managed to pack x4 pci-e lanes into that little connector, must be small pitch.

I'd read this thread before, and forgot to come back to it afterwards.

I received my (512GB) Steam Deck in the first week of April, and played it almost daily for the first few weeks. I still play it regularly now, though not daily, as my work has picked up. I love the device! It makes it more appealing to pick up and play games in my Steam backlog, as it's sometimes a bit daunting to think about playing games at the same computer I've just spent the whole day working on. Some games that I want to play are still unsupported by the Deck, but many work fine, so I'm going through those games while Valve works to improve Proton.

The regular software and OS updates are cool/exciting to see. It definitely wasn't a finished/polished device in terms of its software; while it could play some of the games I wanted to play, from the moment I got it, there have been many quality of life improvements, often in response to user feedback, and increased title compatibility as time has gone on. I've decided to stay on the 'stable' update channel instead of 'beta', thus I don't get features and updates as quickly as beta subscribers do. It's definitely a heavy device, but I've been able to game on it for hours at a time. My hands are on the small side, though, and it's a bit of a stretch to reach the left thumb stick for regular use. Instead, the games I'm playing right now support d-pad-based movement, so I use that. On the Deck, I'm currently playing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Ys: Oath in Felghana, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising, and Vampire Survivors.

Overall, I have no regrets getting the Deck, as it's the most exciting tech/gaming device I've bought in a long time!

I just looked on the list of working Games, and My Summer Car, Beam NG Drive and the Euro Truck Simulator 2 are on this List ^^ this is quite cool ^^ , and some of the Indie Games I allready have..
so I decided that it will have a place in my Collection..
but it’s meant to shipped in Oktober ..

I wonder if there are also some Media Streaming Apps available for Steam Deck like Netflix ..

It’s not meant to be a competition for Switch, Pyra and Analoge Pocket, but some AAA Games on the Go ..

I wonder why Garry’s Mod is not on the List of Working Games..

It will shipped whit a cool Carry Case, and as it isn’t meant as a Pocket Handheld, more as a Rucksack Handheld like the Switch, im fine whit the non clamshell …
It’s hope until I get my Unit, the Gothic Games I got years ago for an Apple and an Egg on Steam will also get playable..

Allthought this „Works on Steamdeck“ is just a Mather of „someone offizial had try it out, so I think I will also test these Games ..

Shure I could also try the Steam Port on Phytium but I got an error , which I have a look at and it’s nice to have these Games on Handheld.. ..

I received my deck two weeks ago. It's an impressive device. Especially as an comercial Linux device.I've got the 512 GB version, but today i would order the 64 GB variant.
Sadly there is/will be no good support for GOG cloudsync function. That limits my use of my huge GOG libary. But thats an other topic.

Won't GOG galaxy run via WINE/Proton?

Not that I care much about the Steam Deck.
I'm more thinking of Linux gaming in general.

There is apparently a snap package for that, but i have not tried it.
But i'm concerned if such an installation will only download the windows version of the games and run them via wine, too.

Is that a problem?
IMHO Proton runs games better than some old Linux version/port with ancient dependencies as a requirement.

Are there many Linux games on GOG? I have many GOG games but not many have a Linux version AFAIK

Just checked, 38 out of 171 in my library have linux binaries. About the quality i'm not sure, some work nicely (e.g. Divinity Original Sin), but i haven't played them all on Linux. Some are just packaged inside DosBox or Mono anyways, so it propably doesn't matter much. Maybe you are right.

I usually install the games via Lutris and just don't use GOGs cloudsync.

I wonder if (some) Steam games are patched for the Steam Deck while games on GOG might not receive the same patch. So I would be happy to be able to use the GOG games on Steam Deck.

As far as i can tell, the Steam games do no receive any aditional patches specific for the deck. To be clear, the deck / proton car run GOG windows game versions without any problems. I have installed them through an application named "heroic games launcher" and then added them by "add a non Steam game" to Proton / Steam. Maybe i give Lutrys a try in the next days.

From different interviews I understood that at least some automatic optimization to the configurations of supported (Steam) games is made, like setting the ideal resolution and other graphic options to obtain good FPS on the Steam Deck by default.
I'm not sure anyway how deep this goes, and if graphic drivers or CPU optimizations are also involved.

I wonder how it is possible that you can use Streaming Stuff via the Web Browser on Steamdeck? Wasnt the "Big Pictures Mode" Based on Arch Linux?

SteamOS is based on Arch Linux, from which the "Big Picture Mode" application is launched (it's basically the same app for using in Windows too). Streaming has always been a pain on steam machines as there aren't specific apps for the services (yet), although streaming via a browser would be the same as any other PC, albeit a bit faffy to get initially logged on, and to jump to certain websites.

I will just need a USB C Hub whit HDMI Out, should work fine enough whit one of my Keyboards..

I just claimed ARC for 0 €, on Steam, so a Game more to try…
This was the Game where you can even tame Dinosauriers ? Sounds like Fun ..
