Exophase
Nothing good will ever come of Exophase.
Plus there's pentile vs non-pentile. Galaxy Note 2 is 1280x720 non-pentile. Galaxy S4 is 1920x1080 pentile. That means the former has 2764800 sub-pixels and the latter has 4147200. But somehow people care much more about whether or not they can call it full HD or 1080p, actual physical makeup of the pixels doesn't matter nearly as much..
Here's a pretty jarring comparison: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note_ii-review-811p3.php It's rather exaggerated since with higher resolutions you won't see a lot of text so thin, but it's still a good illustration.
To me this is another case where we should favor our own criteria over going with the popular flavor. On mainstream devices that are mostly used to render anti-aliased text, vector-ish icons, images like photos, and 3D games the impact from pentile is hard to notice. But that's not necessarily the case if you're spending a lot of time playing games that are scaled up from much lower resolutions, where many people want sharp transitions between pixels (as is evident by those who want the scaling filter off on Pandora).
