Psx Running On The Gp2x

davec? where are you now?!

Well, all this psx stuff is very very exciting indeed. I just cant wait to be in and out of menu screens! that metal gear solid menu screen is a real toughie! i mean, X Dag Nabbit!! NOT circle!!

anyway. I love menus, i love the psx, i love the gp2x. I am so happy with a psx emulator for the gp2x, because my brain can only capture 4 frames of images per second anyway. Something to do with retina lag or something, my gp never told me why i had it.

so, yeah, i am very excited!

Uncalled for sarcastic comments like those^ are really helpful to the community, and you should continue. I'm sure all the devs would appreciate it. <_<

Maybe someone could code a DaveC emulator and have it post here randomly. I don't think it would be too hard.

It could be modelled on Marvin the paranoid android.

"Here am I. Brain the size of a planet and they give me a hand held console that doesn't emulate anything at frameskip 0 and 60 FPS. I would redesign it myself but that would take effort. Besides it would only take me 3.278 seconds and what would I do with the rest of eternity. All in all I think it would be easier if I just topped myself. Goodbye cruel world."

"I said I'm going to top myself!"

"There, you see I might as well top myself nobody loves me. Even that Anna Hong thinks I'm a prat."

"Oh God!... mumble mumble mumble"

most gba emus need better hardware than psx emus.
and if it really gets optimized it will be good playable without sound in my opinion and that is awesome.
When development continues like that, i will donate money soon too!

i seriously wouldnt buy a gp2x for this result.
Neither would I but who would? This is just a bonus for those of us who already decided to buy the console and it IS all positive because the emulation is only going to get better. This was a quick port remember it's unoptimised. So why don't you and DaveC go lick each other's ....

Im expecting a gba emu, proper snes emu, really more amazing drmd and more pc ports. ooh! and scummvm with sound files!!
That is your problem, don't expect anything unless you are going to do it yourself. You are bound to be disappointed otherwise.

The ps1 used uncompressed avi's afaik, that's the reason why all Final Fantasies where on 4 CDs

I don't think that the videos should be a problem, the emulation it self will be the tricky part...

Ok, so if I dump an uncompressed avi onto an SD, in theory GP2PSX will be able to play it? Would it require any specific code to initialise the video? I mean, cutrrently the emulator only read .bin, so an avi isn't an option anyway - but in THEORY....

Oh, and what about Net Yaroze games? If the emu gets to a good level perhaps Net Yaroze will come back and Sony will start selling the black units again... then we'll have a whole new community of homebrewers!

only useless until someone releases a way to load a secondary controller... most common PC controllers would have many more than enough buttons to accomodate PSX emulation and most are battery powered...

Seeing as how converters are available which allow you to plug a PlayStation controller into a PC's USB port, perhaps a self-powered mini-B type connector version will become available.

Pfffftt...

With 0.10 out now, we should really take this to the other thread :p

there's no way an SD card could be read fast enough for uncompressed AVI, depending on the resolution, you can be looking at 700mb a minute

but there is more than 4 minutes of videos in final fantasy i think :p

MrVaderSir: You are very optimistic :) Why use Net Yaroze to make games for an emulator when you can make games natively?

my favourite (kids) game 'Parappa the Rapper' does not work... I'm getting the the first screen where I select the language, the joystick works but when I press button (any button!), nothing happens.

I used cdrdao under linux for ripping the game from CD and then compressed it with pocketiso (worked OK).

PS: I had the same behaviour on Linux emulator of PSX (epsxe) , I wonder if this can be fixed somehow... anybody experienced anything similar?

If it happens on two different Emus it is probably the way Pocket ISO has ripped it, You may need to change some of the settings when you compress the ISO.

just got the 2x.

loaded neocd and psx and ripped Vib Ribbon to bin.

doesn't really work. loads up. slow. but it is pretty hilarious. gets stuck on the transitions. It's quite beautiful actually.

says it's loading without HLE emulation. What is that all about?

rock...

This is because PSX does not use uncompressed AVI, it uses a (I'm not really sure bout this, but I think it's mpeg-like) propietary format that is decompressed by hardware using a special chip in the machine.

The frame rate on the psx videos is almost always 15fps, but the resolution varies, at the most common resolution you can store around 40 minutes of video (max bitrate, it can never exceed the speed of the cd drive, 2x) with sound.

The Playstation uses sequential Jpegs, called MJpegs, for movies.
