Psx Running On The Gp2x

I wonder if the Magic Eye chipsets might be of some use some day... it seems that the gp2x has some nice stuff like a 2D Accellerator built in too(not talking about the Arm9 instructions of the two cpus)...

However I guess we can be more than happy if zdttd finds a way to use the second core efficiently.

He mentioned a while back that there may be a posibility of "PS1 main processor" to arm thingamabob.

Sounds interesting to say the least.

me either, but at leas i'll know some stuff as far a emus go will be worked out before i get it... though i am getting a bit impatient :(

how many days till january?? arrgh.

I know what you mean... on the one hand, I'd prefer to wait for the hardware and internals fixes (like the stick can distort the screen, and other things which are either unfixable, or unfixable without taking apart the unit), on the other hand, the currently £100 GP2X on ebay is nearly too tempting :(

Heres another menu...

Well, i just tried out ffix and I couldn't get it to start (i got a green screen and waited for over a minute and then restarted). I used pocketISO to compress the .bin files to .znx files. Am I doing something wrong or is ff9 not supported yet?

excellent progress

shame the gp2x only has a pair of trigger buttons though, means the emulator is useless.

only kidding!!!

AWESOME!

AWESOME!

only useless until someone releases a way to load a secondary controller... most common PC controllers would have many more than enough buttons to accomodate PSX emulation and most are battery powered...

On the gp32x news page it says:

"it plays movies smoothly and RUNS GAMES WITH UP TO 60fps with fs3!"

By movies does this mean FMV, or some sort of video ofmat i didn't realise was psx compatible?

Absolutely awesome work here man - it's great to see the gp2x being pushed so much so early on!

I can't wait to get a bigger SD card so I can help build up the compatibility list... FTW!

YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!

my god not every psx game needs those buttons, and you could also map them to other ones...

The ps1 used uncompressed avi's afaik, that's the reason why all Final Fantasies where on 4 CDs

I don't think that the videos should be a problem, the emulation it self will be the tricky part...

davec? where are you now?!

Well, all this psx stuff is very very exciting indeed. I just cant wait to be in and out of menu screens! that metal gear solid menu screen is a real toughie! i mean, X Dag Nabbit!! NOT circle!!

anyway. I love menus, i love the psx, i love the gp2x. I am so happy with a psx emulator for the gp2x, because my brain can only capture 4 frames of images per second anyway. Something to do with retina lag or something, my gp never told me why i had it.

so, yeah, i am very excited!

Ok, seriously you guys. I read some posts here and its like all "arnold schwarzenegger is coming!" all over the place. People are getting all orgasmic over this! And i really dont understand why. Everyone knows its going to be another really bad snes emu again for the gp32! so i dont know why people would get excited about this.

It kind of reminds me of the time when i actually thought hoverboards were going to be made after seeing back to the future 2!!

Ok, i really dont mean to put people off, down, out or whatever. Im just being a little realistic. As director peter greenaway once said "there are so many possibilities" but without the tie of other people on the job, his work would become absolutely nuts! people have to come in sometimes and tug on the old drawbridge ropes once in a while you know?

Its all like "i got it running at 2fps!!, no gameplay whatsoever, but STILL!!". i seriously wouldnt buy a gp2x for this result. Its a kind of rubbish result. Because the term "RESULT" is usually known to be positive in nature, or at least in the english language it is used in a positive context, or something like that. Like people dont go "result! you got cancer!".a sick example, sorry, but similar.
The result of this so far is that the emulator doestn run anything remotely playable, or anything that people would want to play.

Anyway, to conclude this... i really am happy that the effort is gone into this, i really am. Even though i do not sound it, but i am like this generally. thats what depression does to you, you see. Im glad the psx emu works. whether it will run anything i would like to run, except 2d games of course... is a completely different story.

im not expecting any gran turismo or anything like that. but if you think of it this way, most ps1 gameswhich are 2d are on the pc anyway. wouldnt it be easier to port a pc game over? i do rather a bit of coding myself.. so i am really trying to understand ones logic of code. as in, why build a code which has limits?

Although the results of this emu so far are really astounding, hats off to them. But put this next to quake on the gp2x.. all i can do is laugh really. I am more excited about the next pc port like duke nukem. Because realistically i got the gp2x xoz it does more perfect versions of emulators and games than the gp32 did.

Im expecting a gba emu, proper snes emu, really more amazing drmd and more pc ports. ooh! and scummvm with sound files!!

A pc port of metal gear would be rather more fun to tinker with. in fact, i shall go and do some of that myself and see what i get out of it.
I hope to get a little site going with some projects on it. so look out for this one.

The gp2x is amazing, i havent opened it yet, but just the clean reactions from people here are really cool. thanks!

I just hope that the coders of this psx emu spend their time on stuff which they know will work, instead of just testing water they already know the temperature of.

although, a psx emu would be amazing, i would look more for the psx experience. take a look at drmd, its amazing in every way. it captures the megadrive experience, stereo sound, proper screen size, corect controls and all that.

if i want cool games, id just get a psp. or play quake on gp2x. but really, id only play stuff id enjoy. not just test the technical ground on.

its cool though, coz i remember playing opensnes so much once, that when i got back to my original snes console and played the game on that, i thought that the snes was absolutely amazing!! the graphics and sound are SOOOO smooth! ;)

But yeah, im happy people are working on it, im a little confused on why people are like "I love you!"

the only person who could get the psx emu running anything worthwhile, WITH sound and no graphical glitches (you know, who could have fun with a game that features no FLOOR?!) is GOD. So, really, i shall go and pray for this to happen.

heres hoping, keep it up you guys! dont let semi nasty people like me get you down, davec, im glad you arent here, coz it wasbeginning to become annoying!

I hope that everyone will be happy with all results, crud or not, coz the gp2x is just about fun! so what if snes didnt work right on gp32. i dont think i cried about it. and i still got my gp32!

yeah baby... yeah :)
