Psp Has Arrived

I played a lot of FPS on N64 too using the four C buttons to control aiming while moving with the stick... it's not THAT bad of a setup, we're all just spoiled by dual sticks and keyboard and mouse. But yeah, for FPS's, at least, the DS does have the better setup... Metroid plays amazingly perfectly with that stylus. I don't think playing FPS on the PSP will be a problem at all though. I'll be one of the first in line to pick up Coded Arms when it releases so I'll put that to the test then... but again based on past N64 experiences I dont see it being a problem.

You know, I wasn't planning on getting a DS at all.. up until the very last minute, when I played the Metroid demo on a demo DS at Gamestop like 3 days prior to release... Man it just felt so RIGHT, and looked way better than most of what I'd seen for the system up til then. Right that moment my mind flipped and I had to have one... I got very lucky and found out that Blockbuster was selling them 2 days early and NO BODY ELSE KNEW ABOUT IT!!! So got three, one for me, my wife, and my best friend. When Metroid comes out I am going to give my DS batteries a thorough workout that's for sure.....

By the way, you guys who keep saying Polarium is so great... what are you on??? Is it just that some of you are that desperate to claim one more 'good' game under the DS's belt?? I tried an import copy yesterday and I was not impressed at all... it was pretty mediocre as far as puzzle games go IMO. Gameplay was sorta innovative but got boring fast, graphically it's another coulda-been-a-GBA game. It's getting pretty so-so reviews as well. Zoo Keeper is great though... addictive game that one and would be king of the hill on DS if it had online support....

And Xboxit you really dont know what you're talking about, there are some really great games among the PSP launch titles... they are NOT JUST GOOD LOOKING but are very fun to play as well. Lumines is possibly the best puzzle game since Tetris. Minna No Golf is so good that it has turned me onto playing the sport in real life. Metal Gear Acid is one of the most fun turn based strategy games (a dying breed) I've played in at least a couple years. Ape Escape is nearly as fun as Mario 64. Old favorites like Tony Hawk, Ride Racers and Twisted Metal speak for themselves.... and the list goes on. If you looked around you'd see that those of us PSP owners on the board dont just rave on about how great the thing looks but how great some of these games really are. You guys really gotta stop saying how it's all about the graphics with the PSP like all the games so far just suck so much ass... you are just WRONG and most people who've played these PSP games would agree.

I htink the reason the PSP has better games at launch is because the transition from home console to PS2 is relatively easy, theres not that much different (except screen res)

the DS however is suffering, because Nintendo is saying it doesnt want rehashes (bt hypocritical) so companies are (foolishly) trying to input the tocuh screen into the game

TBH i dont see the point of navigating a touch screen menu, it is far simpler to use a D-pad to navigate, they are doing it for the sake ofdoing it

right now though i'm holding on to my DS, mostly because I feel that the DS games are more suited to handheld gameplay, whereas a PSP game could just as well be on a big screen (this is an opinion)

The thing bout polarium is that even though it is a mediocre title, it can be sorta addictive but i admit not as addictive as Zoo Keeper. The only thing that is keeping me from buying a PSP is that only Mercury appeals to me. That saying the other PSP games aren't bad its just they dont appeal to me. I don't think it will come down to Hardware sales between DS and PSP. I think it'll come down to the games and which has the better games. At the moment its PSP but having played the new Kirby game on DS and had a shoot of electroplankton im hoping the Ninty show off a lot of new DS games hopefully some of which will be RPG's and FPS's

EDIT:- http://gamesradar.msn.co.uk/news/default.a...bsectionid=1588
Have a look at that. a list of over 200 DS games. have a look and see wat tickles ur fancy. It might even make some of u keep ur DS'

But the dark stalkers game for it (to my knowledge) is new, a compilation of tons of dark stalkers goodies not done on another console. Forgive me if this info is wrong.

Untold Legends is entirely New, same with twisted metal: Head on, Wipeout: Pure is a new one in the series to my knowledge also, same with Ridge Racer, and Ape escape (although not terribly sure it's a launch game) Seems to be an entirely new one, Lumines is guarenteed fresh, and Dynasty warriors is a new game in the series alltogether, and metal gear acid is also guarenteed fresh.

The only real ports I can name are need for speed underground, tony hawk underground, a few sport titles, and spiderman 2.

I think the main reason PSP had better games at launch is because it had a little bit of every genre, and not just average games in those genres either. While DS has the selection of "Feel the magic", A Mario 64 port, Wario Ware, and Metroid (while great, the new format isn't much of a seller)

The darkstalkers game looks IDENTICAL to my import Saturn game Vampire Savior.

As for the 200 ds games, the same can be said for the GP32, i think back in the day gp32emu.com had a list of games that were to be developed and we all know nothing came of those, so how many of these 200 do you actually think will see the light of day.

As i said i could be wrong about the psp but truth be told my urge for fast paced action shooters has increased over the past few years so MP:Hunter and GoldenEye:RA will do it for me. plus if the psp does do better than the ds then its cheaper games for me :p

The touch screen is just about the only reason I own a DS. If it were a boring handheld, I'd have no use for it. Can't wait for Band Bros., Electroplankton (importing now), Wario Ware Touched!, Meteos... all games that wouldn't work without the touch screen.

As for the SECOND screen however... I really don't think I've seen a game that uses it properly yet.

I do really agree with you about the PSP being big screen thing, I want new experiences and original games, else I might as well be playing on my PC.

i dint mean it like that

i meant programming for the PSP is similar to deving for a PS2, whereas there are so many more things developers have not seen before on the DS (2 screens, touch screen etc) it isn't as easy to integrate it into a game

Ahhh ok my bad, didn't realize what ya meant at first. I thought you meant it was a little bit easier to get launch titles since they could be ported :p My fault in judgement there, sorry.

And I guess you're right, PSP hardware and PS2, despite the bit of power gap, do seem to behave/look the same. So I guess it's only logical for the PS2 experienced devs to be able to work fast on it right out of the gate.
