PGS Windows 10 gaming handheld - GPD WIN competitor

This time the unit is actually being lifted. And the sticks actually work, not that that really means anything since they're probably part of the same original controller assembly that the other controls are.
Maybe they really did manage to put the tablet PCB inside the base?
More like:

The controller is connected via Bluetooth, probably to something under the table. You can watch the LED blink and then turn solid as it pairs.
The screen is obviously not connected to anything inside the case (no wires running between them) so there is probably an HDMI cable running from the back of the LCD to wherever the Voyo V3 is hidden.
Basically, they chopped up the Ipega controller that you see in all of those gifs on the main campaign page, stuck it into a different shell and set a screen on top of it.

Video wont play properly for me for some reason. I take it the bottom left corner is hidden for a reason.

I though this at first but it's actually the guy's knee, and around 2:20 it's lifted without being balanced on anything for a while.

I doubt the bottom part is uncovered, since he holds his hands there and rests it flat on his knee. The tablet being glued behind the screen would make sense. It would explain why the holding is so awkward where most of the time it has to be rested on something else, because it's so top heavy...

It's also possible that the display was made wireless somehow, I guess? If there's a cable running out behind the display then they did a pretty good job hiding it while moving the thing around, although it's also possible that the video was edited.

EDIT: Actually, does anybody here own an IPEGA and can confirm that the sticks work comparably shitty at all? If they are still using someone elses hardware in there, the performance of the controllers should be better, shouldn't it?

I have an ipega controller and the input lag on my phone is terrible.

oh okay, then. well at least it confirms that they haven't got a proper input solution integrated.

Maybe they really did manage to put the tablet PCB inside the base?
I don't think so. You can see the LCD backlight shining on the back of the case under the screen so I'd say you were right when you said the "lid" was probably backless. I'm pretty sure the base just contains the PCB of the wireless controller they've butchered.
They aren't even trying to claim there's actually a custom PCB in there, they outright said that wouldn't happen until after the campaign.

That guy in video has small hands or the prototype is huge.
I was going to say the same thing. It looks much bigger than Pyra. Also, why didn't they use the built in controls more, or pick it up. Isn't it supposed to be a handheld? (Looks like they anticipated this, as they fixed it in the second video, which has a nice gleam under the screen. It looks to leak more light than a Pyra in a clear case (and Neelix beat me to the punch with that...)) I still want to see the hinge/slider work, or sticks that won't interfere with this. Exophase hit on most of this. The fancy exterior still doesn't change the fact that they told us they weren't going to have a real prototype of the hardware, and were planning on continuing to use other people's products, as if this shows that they can make what they claim at the price they are throwing around. Some things still seem off about the videos. Gimme more gameplay. I would even be happy if they fired up a couple emulators and showed how wonderful their controls work. Maybe some SMB, and something where they can use the sticks a lot. It is pointless to show the performance when the "prototype" isn't using what the final product will (or did they change directions with that?).

Also, on the thing about the backer funds dropping, and them trying to prevent it: I understand more money is better when it comes to making things like this, but if they only need $100,000 to show the investors that there is interest, why are they making fools of themselves to get every penny they can? This probably pushes away at least as many people as the comments from naysayers.

Why is the screen backlight lighting up under the hinge there? That means it's shining out of the back of the lid.

Also, that hinge looks fake as all hell. Although I guess they were planning to invent that hinge later on.

I was going to say the same thing. It looks much bigger than Pyra.

Well, that's because it is. I actually also thought it would be a lot smaller, more like a smartphone... but when you take a look at their Kickstarter page, the rendering mentions it will be 16cm wide.
That's 2cm wider than the Pyra.

So yes, it was always meant to be bigger than the Pyra... more like a phablet than a smartphone.

Wow big loss today, I missed all the fun. PGS (Nadir and his forum buddies) were doing better by not updating. I was wrong about Alec but the whole backer support recruitment and offering money if funded really makes it sound like KS should shut it down now. I know fake support is very much against the rules. The prototype is exactly what I was expecting, well except of the BT ipega hehe.

Even if Nadir is really passionate about this device and it isn't a scam, and KS doesn't pull the plug, there's just too much evidence that they will be able to pull this off with the funds they will get by the end of it. Should I say they or just Nadir? I still doubt anyone else from the "PGS Team" in the campaign page is really apart of this, and even if they appear in a future update it could pictures from the original KS promo video shoot or he could have hired them to do some more modeling ;)

Time to start a pool on when KS ends this.

Guys, you can cool your debunking heels on the prototype. PGS have admitted the latest prototype vids are just 3rd party components in a 3d printed shell

They wont start on the PGS PCB until after the KS ends, as this is when they supposedly get the cash from their investor to do so.

That's where it is.

Oh and yes, Alec was recruited by Nadir(Cooler3d) on a russian gaming site. Alec confirmed that.

I personally wasn't expecting anything at all. There's been no indication since the beginning anyone on the team, or just Nadir, had the KSA's to do anything more than they showed today. But with all the time they spent putting it together, not counting the 2 or so years they have been developing it, it makes me wonder if that delay was just to find the perfect angle to shoot it :p

I know a little bit about Nadir from huinting around a while ago. I don't believe this is a scam. He seems to be guy into gaming and a budding entrepreneur .

It's actually true that he started looking at Bay trail and cherry trail devices for gaming 2 years ago. You can see that on russian forums.

He is a 3d CG specialist who supposedly started his own business 3-media.ru when he was 20 . 3-media.ru is down now though. He also won a grant when he was 20 to study overseas -> http://moidagestan.ru/news/society/9515 - He is the young guy in the middle with the glasses hanging from his shirt. His now 25. He specialises in doing the 3D CG work in TV ads etc. He has a demo real of this which I've posted previously. This one -> vimeo.com/79775846

So what I believe is happening here, is that here is a guy who's into gaming, he is also good with 3D CG work and has connections with doing ads. He has an idea to develop a portable gaming device , but he doesn't have the skill set to do it. So he he seeks investment. He is forced to go onto KS (whether you believe the investor exists or not). So what does he do. He wants to put the best marketing package together for the KS PGS video. So what does a 3D CG specialist who has worked on ads and has connections with people that make ads do. Yes, of course his going to go down that route ie do the 3D CG work for the PGS and use his connections to hire actors and put together a flashy ad. Which gives the false impression of a full working team

Thats when the wheels start falling off, as although they have been honest to some degree admitting things. It's only after they have been discovered usually. Sadly though, they seem to have held onto the ad being people still in their team rather than admitting it was an ad. Then their is the dubious connections (someones father - lets leave it at that)

So I'd say his an entrepreneurial dreamer who does want to create this, but went slightly the wrong way by doing an ad, breaking KS rules, lying at times, and not being totally upfront. Sounds familiar right?

Everybody knows this, the question right now is simply a matter of where they're putting the cannibalized tablet PCB in the "prototype." No one here thought there was going to be a custom PCB in this video.

I guess you could say it's moot. I would almost say that there could be demand for a Ben Hack-style franken-handheld built with tablet parts if it were actually a contained handheld and had a working hinge and second screen. But it would definitely cost more and they've already eliminated the possibility of ever doing something as unambitious and low volume of that by promising much more with a Kickstarter.

And they're still sticking by the story that they were not planning on doing a KS until their investor insisted on it, even though Nadir clearly said in March he was going to do a KS:

I've already mentioned that before communicating with you I was busy in some other sides of our projects. Nadir haven't hired me specifically to talk with you. Yes, we wrote on some forums that we didn't want to launch on Kickstarter, we were not planning it, but later our investor insisted to do it. This is crucial for us to get additional financing in order to create a complete prototype and then to produce the device.

So what I believe is happening here, is that here is a guy who's into gaming, he is also good with 3D CG work and has connections with doing ads. I've also said that w/o explicit evidence otherwise they can only be accused of being hopeless dreamers in over their heads and not outright scammers.

However, if it turns out that they don't actually have investors then they've made egregiously deceitful comments. Even if they're still acting under real intentions and belief that they can deliver the product I would begin to qualify such a deception as a con.

Maybe there are investors but I find it very unlikely. What I'd find somewhat more believable is that there's a third party that they believe will support them under terms that they haven't actually agreed to, or that they're also being taken for a ride by these alleged investors (although I can't for the life of me see how that'd work out for them)

Slightly is putting it lightly. You don't get investors by deception. I don't know how business operates in Russia but ethics is a pretty big thing here. Considering KS backing is putting a lot of trust into strangers you need to be as open and transparent as possible or it will blow up. At this point I really don't care if he's an entrepreneurial dreamer. Everything they do has been met with skepticism and will be until they produce something and if they lied at the very beginning, even before the kickstarter then they will lie again. This isn't something you just stop doing, like that familiar person you mentioned. Too bad so sad, cool concept but come back with a real business plan and actual credible information on the project. All he did was blow his load on a snazzy promo video and made some truly nice renders, not something anyone should back and I do not feel sorry for him.

Not a record amount or number of members loss yet today, but it's looking like it'll be the record day so far for comments, according to the kicktraq daily data tracker!

The comments were a fun read today! Needs more Excellent Expert though.

It wasn't until April that the investor popped into the equation from comments Nadir said in this thread., so him saying that about KS in March, doesn't mean much. Then later in April/May they said they had to go the KS route again.

The original story goes like this. They were going to do a KS, then they found an investor and didn't need it, this was told to us in April, then later in April/May, they said the investor wanted them to go the KS route because they saw their KS draft which was leaked.

@Gr8one, Yes, slightly was indeed an understatement :)

On a different note. Remember what I said to PGS a day before they went live on KS , and had shown us their final KS draft for comment.
Here it is here: http://boards.dingoonity.org/other-...-system-on-windows-10!!!/msg145953/#msg145953

Mind you, I doubt they could offer vouchers.

The sad thing is, they could have done this the right way. They had the option of the right and long way, or the "seemingly" easy way. The rest is history

But right now, today, they are straight up saying that they were not planning to do a KS and only did so because their investor required it. I don't think they ever said they were going to do KS until an investor saved them from it. What they said is they weren't going to do KS - period. Then it splits into two different stories: they're doing a KS because they lost investor money due to disagreements, or they're doing a KS because the investors decided to make this a prerequisite to their investment.

Their story about the leaked video is stupid anyway. They got investors who only made them do a KS because they saw a video? Why? Investors might make someone do KS in order to ensure that there's a minimum order quantity and in order to generate more buzz for the product, although with the level of R&D done with this pitch requiring a KS at this stage is an awful idea.

But why would they decide this only after seeing the leaked video? It doesn't make sense.

Face it, everything they're saying about investors sounds super dubious. It's much more likely that the investors don't exist and they're lying to backers and potential backers in order to make them think they're assuming less risk than they actually are.

@Exophase

Yes the investor being real is dubious - I'm no different in having concerns on whether they exist . But I don't see the disconnects in their comments about "the investor"

They did say they were going to do a KS until they found an investor , they said that in this thread. The story is they then needed to go to KS again because the investor demanded it.

So is what they are saying now in the KS campaign inconsistent. No , not IMO, they are saying they were not planning to do a KS in the context of recent history. That's all.
