Nk Qtopia For Gp2x

I really want to download this, but I have a few questions first.

I have heard from a friend who has this on his GP2X, that this breaks SDL apps. Is that true?
How does the flashing work? Does it replace the whole firmware or just the kernel? I have firmware 2.0.

Thanks.

I have the same problem as a couple of other people, the cursor won't move. I can scroll through the menu using the shoulder buttons but when I press a button it open the app (contacts) that the non-moving cursor is sitting over. Any configurations needed to get the mouse moving? I'm using the out-of-the-box Qtopia 0412.

If you have installed the latest 2.0 Official GPH Firmware then you no longer need to flash anything: you just unzip Qtopia onto your SD card and then run the qtopia.gpu or qtopia2.gpu from the Utility menu of your GP2X.

I'm using qtopia_0412.zip which includes 2 versions of Qtopia and runs straight from the zip with no additional installing nor flashing.

I've noticed that at the start the cursor won't move at all. Jiggle it around a bit, enter an app etc, and just keep moving the cursor around. Eventually it'll come unstuck.

I'm serious.

I finally noticed two things... one, I'm an idiot and two, I'm impatient. I fired up Qtopia again and waited a bit and the cursor started working. I've now successfully run qtopia1 and qtopia2 images and they both run amazingly. The games are ok but I see a LOT of potential for the applications, with PDA functionality the GP2X does everything I'd wished the Zodiac had done... except for touchscreen. So far.

I've gotten the video player to play videos with sound but haven't had much luck with the music player... yet.

Has anyone started a thread for best Qtopia apps and/or precompiled images?

What method do you guys use to enter text? I can't use the little keyboard thing for anything extended.. far more painful than using the Sterm virtual keyboard, cuz you actually have to hit the right keys on the screen.

OMG, I missed this thread because of school lately, I am out now.

Quick questions, this is running on top of linux, correct?

It runs as is on Firmware 2.0 is what I am hearing.

Can we make an option to run Qtopia on boot instead of gp2xmenu?

Is there enough room on the Nand for one of these images? I would pick the 2.2 image if it is stable and complete.

TV-Out is functioning? Would I need to start the TV-Out and then Qtopia?

Edit: Is there any reason Qtopia is using all the RAM? Can we make it stop, or is it necessary?

Hardware Idea (anyone who knows about the "normal" way a PDA uses/stores Time and Date it would be cool to have their input):
I think if some enterprising hardware genius could make a simple clock/battery for this and make it internal we would be so set right now. Is there room on the i2c bus for simple time and date info to be uploaded from a chip like that? Just a small CR2032 and pcb in a heat shrink inside the GP2X shell and a couple i2c "modchip like" wires and we would so have a PDA :).

Edit 2:
I found a chip, I assume it is common knowledge to those who actually build circuits, I am just a hacker.

DS1307 64 x 8, Serial, I2C Real-Time Clock
Schematic of circuit using this DS1307, pay attention to the area around the DS1307, especially the SCL and SDA lines (Serial Clock and Serial Data), the circuit is very simple.

I am not sure of the current design of the i2c bus, but if there is a way, this mod could cost under $20 for a real clock, maybe even a design could implement a wake-alarm or a sleep/low power alarm function.

How long would a GP2X run on minimal RAM refresh in sleep mode? Might be a kinda fun experiment.

Any other ideas for interfacing a real-time clock? It could have a microcontroller or PIC powered by the GP2X when turned on that would send the clock data to the serial in the EXT port on request.

Edit 3:
Maybe I should bump, or start a new topic,

According to this: I2C Bus Protocol, it would be entirely possible to add another device into the I2C bus, it could be this chip, just need a driver for it, I haven't a clue what to do aside from wiring it in.

it doesnt seem to be working

When i run qtopia my mouse cant move but it moved in the setup

and when I run qtopia2 all i get is a black screen :( :(

I think it is just a little unstable with shared files. When I set up qtopia2 first everything worked perfectly. On a different card I set up qtopia1 first and I couldn't move the mouse.

Anyone got wifi with a BoB working?

hmm...This is an interesting graphical system...This would definetly be awesome as the standard GUI... Also, could you change the kernel? I can't use NK's Network kernel. I update it from 2.0 (select+start) and it just hangs after getting to the green screen (which I notice is 1.4)

i was thinking more of NTP. if we had some sort of wifi or something, it'd probably be pretty simple to sync to an NTP server (the windows one looks promising =) i was kinda wondering about this though, considering that games on the GBA and later games on the GBC used the RTC function, how can we get something like that working?

if Qtopia is installed on the GP2X, can you still run gp2x emulators/homebrew games? if so, how?

This doesn't replace the original os, it's just like an emulator that emulates qtopia. I haven't tried it, but I'm sure you can just exit it and play other things.

if I install this and then use a EXT -> USB adaptor, can I use a usb wifi adaptor and opera to browse the net? Thanx!
