Movies Thread

Well, after watching Pursuit of Happyness last night, I'm a bit indifferent towards it. It wasn't a good film by any means but it wasn't a bad film either. I just really think that someone other than Will Smith should have played Chirs Gardner as he just didn't suit it at all.

If you'd ever seen any interviews with the man, you'd know Will Smith was perfectly selected for the part.

Juno is great.

There will be blood is great for most of the film, but then it starts to drag, you get to a bit where you think it's going to end but a whole new section starts and then it just becomes yawnfest.

WAZ is just yawnfest all the way through. I'd be interested to know why it was classified as a horror film. I should have guessed something would be up when there was only me and 8 other people in the cinema before it started..

Saw Be Kind Rewind last night. Some parts of it were pure roflcopter (the first one they do!), others, not so much.

Saw Semi-Pro the other day. I found it pretty funny, but then again I'm into basketball. Damn the UK's pitiful NBA coverage- 1 game a week is not enough! Wanna see the Celtics play more...

Finally watched King Of Kong last night - it's a great film, and a must for everyone on this forum. It's about DONKEY KONG for fuck's sake!

I wonder if any movie this year can really measure up to how awesome Cloverfield was. Never seen anything like it. Just amazing.

The new Batman film might have a shot but a vastly different style of course. :)

I saw XXX 2 - the next level a couple of days ago. And i´m still puzzled wheter the movie tries to appeal to afroamericans or make fun of them.
I mean, according to this movie the typical black person is a carjacker who sells his loot to Xzibit so he can pimp it.

I also laughed at this tech guy, first he practically reverse engineers this flying-saucer thing by glancing at its innards for three seconds, then he hacks the US department of defense in about 10 minutes and later he converts a mortar into a bazooka.

Whatever the target audience of this movie is, they must think of technology as some kind of magic.

I have recently watched "Why We Fight", and "The Man From Earth". Both are great.

I saw the man from earth a few months ago after a certain Czech member of this board recommended it, also thought it was great, just proves that a movie with a great story can out do the largest budget.

A couple of nights ago I saw a 35min 70s short spanish movie called La Cabina, its on youtube in 4 parts and I highly recommend it to any one who wants to see something different.

I saw The Bank Job last week. Cool film and funny in places. This and El Orfanato are by for two of my favourite films that I've seen recently.

Also, watched Pitch Black a few weeks ago, which I was surprisingly impressed with. Cool film to just sit and watch. I watched the sequel (The Chronicles of Riddick), hoping for more good things after what people had said, but I was a bit disappointed with it. Still, I'm looking forward to the two new sequels that are apparantly being worked on. Sounds as though they could be interesting :p

Started watching long overdue films. As a movie buff, I'm ashamed to say I waited this long to watch them.

Goodfellas: excellent film, second best ganster film I've seen (godfather's best, obv)
Silence of the Lambs- great psychological thriller.
Scarface- SAY HELLO TO MAH LITTLE FRIEND. classic

Rewatched The Graduate, as good as I remember it to be. Next up is a rewatch of Midnight Cowboy, then The Shining which will be a first viewing.

My favorite gangster films:
1. Godfather (whole trilogy)
2. Casino
3. Reservoir Dogs
4. The Departed
5. Goodfellas

Scarface and The Usual Suspects don't make my immediate list, but I like those too.

Not quite the same genre, but City of God is also one of my favorite movies of all time. About gangs in Brazil.

I also love The Graduate, and for some reason that movie always reminds me of Harold and Maude, another of my favorites.

....I'm thinking about tons of movies now.

Watched Swordfish last night. It's crap. Although it did have boobs in.

Watched White Noise a week or so ago, felt like I was watching some dodgy B movie/pr0n on channel 5. Kept me entertained for awhile, instead of sleeping :p

Just finished watching White Noise: The Light, which is an unrelated sequel to the other one. Really enjoyed it + it's got the Captain from Firefly, which == win :p

Edit: Oh yeah, awesome. Whilst watching the extras from The Light the lights in my house started flickering and things started turning on and off (although the DVD player, TV and my desktop stayed on ). Way to scare the crap out of me national grid <_<
