Just to let you know we're not dead (2011-08-16)

i have a question: the money for premium units, was not supposed to be used for hiring some people to help for the overwork?

That was when CC promised 500 units a week, more than Craig could build alone I'm sure.

I have a question too cuz somehow I never bothered to wonder how all this thing works. The board company populate the boards, send them to Craig and from there you guys put them in the cases along with the LCD, keyboard, batteries, flash on the OS, etc...?

SUGGESTION TO THE TEAM:

Why don´t you open a PREMIUM service option for an extra fee? This is very common in a lot of tech service. Hosting companies i.e. use this option a lot.

Suppose:

1- Regular service: FREE

2- Premium service (your unit full fixed in 1 week): 50 USD

May be some people will not agree... and they can just not take the option. But if some people agree will have the option. Money will be for the team what i think is full reasonable.

Please consider the idea.

Incentive to build in problems? Yikes. Given how the premium shipping worked out, I don't think (even through no fault of their own) the Pandora team can be giving any guarantees of any turnaround time. It would only lead to - you said one week! Yeah but then this happened... etc. Probably frustrations on both sides.

Premium offer: get your new Pandora within 7 days

His idea: have a premium-support option, pay money so it gets fixed within 7 days ... or pay nothing and get it fixed whenever ED has time to fix it.

I don't like that idea at all.

I'm also WAY behind with my eMails, as I had A LOT of other important Pandora related stuff to do.

Fix, work on the business plan, discuss with companies, etc.

There should be some news withing this week, I've got a lot of new info I want to share but can't right now as I have to get up in 3 hours - and I want to get some sleep as well before that ;)
It's time to hire some people for stuff like E-Mails, or drop some of your work to other people, I guess your time will not be more in the near future. ;)

For people in the english boards that don't follow our german boards, ED mentioned already, that Batch 2 Pandoras MAYBE will get updated processor and faster RAM'n stuff.

Discuss. ^^

This would likely be out of component supply necessity. I dare not even speculate on such a topic, as we're all familiar with the ruckus it causes.

Well, golem.de had a short article about that Pandora production will move to germany. ( http://www.golem.de/1108/85938.html ) In the comments, ED wrote:

Es wird viel passieren - evtl. gibt es sogar Pandoras mit dem neueren Prozessor, aber das wird alles gerade geplant und ausgelotet.
"There will be happen alot. -maybe even Pandoras with the newer Processor, but this is all in planing mode and is explored at the moment."

Then we had a new thread in our boards:

ED mentioned the type of the processor:

Ja, evtl. der DM3730, neuerer 3D-Prozessor, schnellere RAM-Anbindung, 1GHz Standard-Takt.
Ist zwar alles noch in der Schwebe und nicht vollständig durchüberlegt, könnte aber durchaus passieren.

Das OS und alle Apps bleiben natürlich komplett kompatibel.
"Yes, maybe the DM3730, newer 3D Processor, faster RAM connection, 1GHz standard clocking.

All that is still in planing mode and not entireley sure, but it could happen"

Don't worry guys, I'll summarize everything up and will tell you what will happen as soon as I find time.

It's so much that I don't even know where to start :)

Its usualy a good Idea to Start at the very beginning.

"First the earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes. I couldn't believe it."

Couldn't changing the hardware around cause binary incompatibility between Pandorae? So wouldn't it split the community in half?

Why would it? Single ARM kernel can support multiple chips these days, and all peripherals stay the same, there is no reason for incompatibility, same firmware could easily support both.

I would be very excited if this actually happened. So long as the hardware is just more powerful versions of the current hardware and the software all remains compatible.

I just really hope that Devs still code their programs for the 600MHz standard clocking of the current Pandora. The additional Power of a possible newer Chip should be a nice bonus and not a standard.

Seriously .. if batch 2 gets different internals (other than board revision) I'm going to ask a refund (and I've been waiting 2.5 years ...)

If this is in any way for real I'm quitting right now.

I have been keeping my peace for a long long time. Patient with every move, mishap and whatnot.

This would be the biggest promise you didn't keep to the community by far.

I seriously hope this 'consideration' is just a brain-fart and the smell will dissipate soon.
