I Just Got My Gp2x!!!

Got mine today! Overall, I am impressed. I dont notice any problems with flicker or scanlines in the screen - it looks perfect. The joystick isn't great and I may get one of DaveC's caps, otherwise, the unit is perfect.

It didnt help that I got my unit on valentines day. Had to wait a whole extra day to start playing with it!

Just got my GP2X and it looks great, but I'm a bit pissed off about the screen cover, I don't expect to have to put that together myself and risk it going wrong for something which costs over £100. There wasn't even a proper explanation for it included in the Gamepark manual. As it happens, I now have a big smudge on the underside of the screen I can't do anything about and is going to drive me nuts anytime I use the GP2X for anything! What on Earth is the idea behind not just sending them out completed?

UPDATE: I got a bit brave and prised the cover off again with a knife. it was all a bit hairy but at least I managed to improve the smudges. It's still not perfect, but a lot easier to live with.

just waiting for my SD card to come now to have a go properly, all I've done so far is move around the menus with the dreaded stick which does actually feel really nice, but I can see how it might not be the best for gaming...

Got mine delivered today by Lik-Sang, 3 days from Hong Kong -> Australia which I thought was pretty good.

The WinXP machine I use at work wouldnt mount the gp2x 1gig sd card i got, would come up with a red cross in device manager. When I got home I plugged the usb into my Gentoo box, it automounted it and popped up a konqueror window in KDE :) very happy now.....both computers were USB 2.0...

Just loading some software on it to test out now :)

I got mine at Valentine's day. Yesterday I ported some linux SDL demos to it, with mixed results. Awesome! I've watched anime, read txt files and listened to music using it.

WHAT? I Got It The Same Day, But I Ditched My Date!!!

Hi, I'm new too....I missed out on the GP32 also, but have been deep into the scene for awhile. Built me a MAME cab, have a modded XBOX, and have also been running emus on my GBA and PSP. I ordered this like a week ago from Lik-Sang with all the fixins and even ordered my stick from DaveC.....COME ON AND GET HERE ALREADY!!

It's here, IT'S HERE! Dances around the room like a little girl ahem I mean, apraises his new electronic gadget with manly moderation and reserve thats what I mean, yes <_< .

Now to see how many times I can brick it within the first day :D .

Hi all
I got my daughter a Gp2x just the other day. I got it from gametronics.se (swedish site) they had fast delivery.
Forgot to get good batterys though. :(
You all know what happens to battery life with standard non rechargeble or the rechargeble that was included i used.
But I put an order for eight 2500mAh batteries and will recive them soon. :)

Yeah I had to get a card reader too, wasn't able to write to the SD-card with USB-cable files got corrupt. (Both USB 1.1 and 2).

I had to try it out for myself, and a big smile filled my face as I started the old Nes game Punch Out, wich I all ready spent to many hours in front (when I was younger).

My daughter loved the game Beats of Rage, the music and movie funktion.

(Excuse my spelling since English is not my native language)

Haha, congratulations.

And your spelling and grammar is pretty damn good, by the way.

After all the bitching about the gp2x elsewhere, this thread is warming my cockles!

Really, I am loving my gp2x more and more. It sat idle when I first bought it, as the ds and psp just seemed easier and WoW was eating my spare time.

But now Mame, DrMD and Squidge's Snes are just so tempting. I play in 10 minute slots, between other things. And all the problems others are having just don't bother me. Ten minutes on Galaxians several times a day is just great fun!

If you know what and why you are buying, the GP2x is just such good fun and value for money!!!

There, it has been said.

I just want my 1gb sd to arrive on back order from 7dayshop.com. :( Anyone know how long they take to restock?

I just got mine today!! I arrived in Las Vegas this a.m. early, but not early enough to greet the couriers, which for once actually worked to my benefit. I was able to skip out of work for a few (MI style :p *cues theme music*) and jet over to the waypoint which isn't to far from the job. Picked up the lil' parcel and jetted back to the jobby-job.

Then I discovered that I got everything EXCEPT the damn AC cord!

Oh yeah, and I also didn't know that Dungeon & Guarder was only for gp32_console

Either way, I'm STILL PSYCHED!! :D

I just got my cap today. I'll fit it later. Thought you should all know.

Ordered my GP2X from Lik-Sang on the 16th at 1:18am EST... my order shipped out via UPS at 6:02am EST... received the box yesterday (President's Day no less) at 10:32am EST. I ordered the GP2X system, AC adapter, carrying case, wrist strap, a Sega Saturn USB controller for my PC, and a PSP2TV adapter. Very impressed with Lik-Sang's service and with UPS for getting it here so quick.

I didn't get home until late last night, but I immediately opened the shipping box and drooled over it's contents. I've heard people say the box that the GP2X comes in is drab and not exciting. I love it! The flat black with just the basic system information on the outside. Hell, if I saw that in a store, I'd buy it in 2 seconds flat to see what it was all about. Upon opening the GP2X package the first thing I noticed was the weight of the system... I was expecting it to be a bit heavier, but was surprised at how light it was. Inspected the screen for dust and then applied the hard protective screen. Installed the batteries, turned the system on and goofed around in the menus. I like the fact that it has an explorer style interface and it doesn't solely rely on shortcuts. The screen is nice and bright... like that... and the system feels good in my hands. I notice the joystick doesn't have the clicky-ness that the GP32 has... in fact, it feels kind of spongy.

Anyway, I hopped on gp32x.de to start downloading some apps and noticed there was a new firmware. I've heard all of the horror stories, but since I had my AC adapter, I wasn't too worried. Formatted my 128MB SD card, moved the new firmware over via my card reader, plugged the GP2X into the wall outlet, and the firmware and system software was updated/patched within a minute -- I was expecting a long process.

I was tired, though, so I just played a few levels in Super Mario World in squidgesnes and then I went to bed. I've downloaded DrMDx and anxious to try that out when I get off work. As for the joystick, I'm going to see about buying an aftermarket stick and see if it feels better. Playing Super Mario World with the original stick wasn't difficult, but it wasn't exactly comfortable to my thumb. The LCD looks great, though... no wavy lines or flickering. I can notice scanlines in Super Mario World when things are moving fast, but I have to actually looks for the scanlines to notice them... otherwise, they are not noticable.

I'm very excited about this system and look forward to seeing what the system is capable of in the future. In the mean time, I'm going to enjoy all of the current emulators.
