I Just Got My Gp2x!!!

Yeah, thanks both of you, I know my batteries are to blame and I am suspicious of whether they've been labeled falsely.. wouldn't surprise me.

I have a slow/smart charger, I just wasn't able to use it straight away until I bought an adaptor, although again I'm dubious about the quality of the charger- whether it's a "smart" charger, or just one that's supposed to take 14-16 hours to charge 4 AAs. :/

I'm curious as to whether anyone else is disappointed with the carry case though. I'm thinking about modifying mine once I've got some spare time. Difficult to keep the shoulder buttons accessible though.

I have an energizer 'slow' charger than came with my 2500's. It says the approximate time to charge is 3 hours for 2500 and it automatically shuts off at 3.5. Every time I charge them up, should I wait the full 3.5, or is that harmful to my precious batteries?

I'm happy with the carry case, cause it's pretty solid feeling. You're right that the little compartment is almost useless cause there isn't much room in the case. But just for carrying the unit by itself is perfect I think.

Word of warning: Never carry spare batteries in a pocket with keys... one of my batteries somehow shorted or something and got REALLY hot.

I'm (kinda) glad someone else cant get Beats of Rage or Scorched Earth to work, and it's not just me... hopefully it's just a firmware issue that can be fixed by the programmers. I've just been having a strange case where my NES emulator has gone from not working at all, to working 50% of the time (the other 50% it just goes back to the OS menu).

I'm also not that happy with the main menu's. As far as I can tell you have to decide what filetype you're wanting to open, before you find it. It's the exact same navagating that needs done once you pick every option (ebook, games, music, etc...) only it just shows you the files relevant to that option. Wouldn't it be far better if you could just search through your SD card and if the file you picked was a png it openned as a picture.. or if it was a .exe it openned as a game... you know like windows does :/
Just seems little tiresome if I want to check the read me for a game before playing it.

Hello all!
Just got mine last week and I'am very happy with it. Its an MKI and I'am also statisfied with the screen.
Except of the brightness, it could be a little bit darker.
I have put some emus on it and it makes a whole lot of fun to play the old classics on such a little sweet thing again. It is really awesome and now i have to end typing because i have to get back to my gp2x and play some more Nitro on UAE.
Bye

Nice community, by the way! :D

(And I hope my english is not soooo bad at all. )

Yeah I have a problem where squidgesnes will randomly decide to work. I played Super Mario World yesterday morning, but last night I tried to load it, and it just stuck on that screen that looks like the top of a SNES console without the usual window over it with the game. And now zero roms for SquidgeSNES work.

Yay! Finally got mine!

Just need to get some games on it now. Installed MAME and tested quickly with Black Tiger, Tiger Road, 1942, and Commando, all worked flawlessly.

I notice there's a little flash (almost like a lack of double buffering) when the OS of the GP2X loads. The other suprise was the fact the batteries are down to 50% after only 60 minutes of use =/ 2700MhA!!

I didn't have to stick my own screen on or anything??? Also on version 2.0 of the firmware.

Sounds a bit rapid, but everyone seems to get different results.

I don't have a GP2x myself to be sure, but according to the manual, isn't the battery life indicator restricted to only showing "Full", "Medium" (50%) and "Empty" ( http://www.gp2x.com/product/09/9-2.asp?part=04 )? With only three levels, I dare say it would drop fairly quickly to 50%, but stay there for most of the battery life before heading to Empty.

Of course, this could also just be wishful thinking. :)

Awesome, finally got my replacement gp2x today and it's an mk2 version :)
Cap feels way better, but I still find myself throwing the stick sometimes - must be habit lol.

Anyway, tried the GnNeoGeo emulator for the first time... METAL SLUG X *drools*

I think someone mentioned that they run out of powersupplies... maybe they'll send one to you when they get more in.

hey, i've been waiting a couple weeks now for my gp2x to arrive... ordered it off gp2x.co.uk. man, they say 2 to 3 days, haha. can't they redo their website or summat? and they don't seem to pick up the phone or return calls. Or return emails... i dunno whats up with them. I'm sure they're working crazy to keep up with demand, but they could maybe send out a group email at least to all customers still waiting... argh... i'll just keep playing streetfighter to ease the pain :(

They replied to any of my emails promptly and were very pleasant on the phone. They are definitely trying their best under very busy circumstances but yeah giving customers a more realistic timescale for delivery might have helped a bit.. :)

Mine just turned up at work, here in sydney, from www.gp2x.net.au.

So am I the first to recieve one from www.gp2x.net.au ?

First impressions - the box was a lot smaller than I expected. The unit was a lot lighter than expected (although no batteries in it - in fact no batteries at all. Can't blame them though, given all the problems that impressionable new users have gotten from alkaline AAs).

Plugged in the ac adaptor I also bought, and powered up ok, had a quick look around, then thought I best get back to work.

There was also a cd with a couple of bits and bobs on it, obviously thrown in by www.gp2x.net.au (as there were some sample piccies on there of maps of the major australian city rail networks - barely readable on my works 19" screen - hate to be trying to read them on the gp2x).

Still waiting on the flashcard I ordered from ebay, then we'll be in business. The 2400 rechargeables are primed, and raring to go !

Woohoo! It's here, had a quick play on Sonic 2, ran great. Played a bit of a movie, Fight Club, seemed very smooth. Will have a proper go at lunch, if I can get it off my boss, he's a bit keen on it too :)

No normal, not rechargable, batteries included (nothing a trip to the stationary cupboard didn't finish)
No PSU (Out of stock, money refunded)
Rechargables are on the go now, not sure how long they take?

Couple of cds in there, usb cable and alternative usb cap.

Did manage to drop it as soon as I got it out of the box (about 3 foot) but it still works. :)

Oh mama, it hath arrived. Nice.

If only my SD card would arrive from eBay ("UK seller" my ar$e...!) I would be in business...

Will have to see if there's a borrowable SD card here at work, so that I can tinker away tonight...

;o)

Yuss, I've got mine too (sans SD card but they're very promptly putting that right) and I've enjoyed it so far. Although slightly worrying that I can't overclock very far. :|
