Gpx2 Unvailed!!

I think it looks very cool!!! $200.00 would be nice but I have a feeling it will be more then that. Plus will it come to the US or at least a reseller hopefully. I would say for those of you wanting to sell your existing GP32's to raise the money to get this new awsome mashine if ti really is only going to be $200.00 then a BLU or FLU would be worth may $100.00. Once this hits people are going to be wanting the new GPX2. However, I will still hang onto my FLU as the origional GP32 will always be a classic!!!

if it can emu amiga properly, i dont need anyone to tell me it cant yet because to be honest no-one exept possibly craigix knows, and can do everything GP can do but like a 250 mhz gp32 then ill definatly get one cos by craigix's posts its sounds like it should be reasonably priced.

Does anyone know if Liksang or any other companies will be selling this? I'm in the UK, but there's not a chance in hell I'll be buying one from Gbax after the PSP fiasco, where they basically told me to "Get stuffed" when I was unhappy with the purchase (see here: http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showtopic=19587)

Should think so, they only seemed to stop selling GP32 because of the BLU+ "scare"...

Maybe they should be informed, last I checked, there wasn't even a news item on their front page...

Really, we'll all wait to see how it goes for the early adopters like trooper :)

ie: If 250 can clock to 400, it could be pretty swank...

Hey Trooper, you going to kill a few trying? :)

jeff

Someone show me where to place the pencil and i`ll give it a go.

I`d have to try it out untouched first, Just to see how it performs speed and compatability wise.

That`s if Squidge doesn`t beat me to it, Judging by his experiments with the Jizmondo. :p

Why buy this one when there are a DS and PSP wich got a pretty neat homebrewdevelopementfuture :)P)?

Dunno, makes me proud of buying something that isn't mainstream, used, and whored by 1 billion other countless users who don't know better.

And this one openly support emulation and homebrew. Sony's been on a rabbit hunt trying to force firmware down user's throat and blocking features.

That's all.

I'm pretty sure GamePark Holdings won't have any legal issues...

until they start to sell alot actually chocking NDS or PSP sales. But as long as they remain more or less like gizmondo in terms of sales, nobody will give a damn. No harm done.

That was a fuckin long read...

First of all, the design is great, I think.
Second, yeah, they should change 2 cpus to one faster cpu to make it easier for homebrew devvers.

The only reason I would buy this for is fullspeed with sound SNES emulation, and it will take some time to see if that will happen...

Why does everyone keep harking on about the clock speed. It really doesn’t come into the equation. It’s a different machine with a different architecture. That alone will speed the thing up even if it was running the same speed as the GP32.

Think of this, what bus speed is the rest of it running at etc, I bet the RAM refresh is faster too. The only thing you can really compare a clock speed of a GP32 to is another GP32!!!!

and is it safe to assume that battery life will be only about 2-3 hours since 166mhz GP32 gets like 4-6 at 166mhz?

well you can bet that :

a) power saving tech is not new to ARM... so expect something here
B) smaller manufactoring process usually creates lower power comsumtion...

so maybe same battery life ????

There's a point... How similar are the CPU's? Intel P100mhz =/= GP32 100mhz...

The thing is it's not just the CPU and its speed. To put it simply, it's more to do with the surrounding hardware. The speed of the bus. how it's connected. The Ram type and the whole technology of the system.

Everyone knows if you want a fater PC, you don't just update the CPU for a faster one. If that was the case we would all still be running a mega fast 8086 with slow DRAM and an RLL Hard drive. There was no such thing as Ultra DMA, Serial ATA or the ablity to play with the front side bus speed. This is it you see, the technology surrounding it all has moved on. And I suspect it's the same with the GPX2. It's a different architecture machine, therfore faster from the off....

Yeah all the talk about mhz is stupid, different types of CPU + different amount of bandwidth and memory speeds + different specialist instructions + differing overheads makes comparing two different Consoles or comparing a console to a PC pointless.

I had a 400mhz Acer PDA yet it couldn't emulate a Snes anywhere near as fast as a DS even with emulation on the DS being at an early stage and pocket PC being advanced.

I believe the 2D acceleration did provide a boost to emu speed on the Zodiac but due to the console's popularity waning in comparisson to regular Palms they stopped developing stuff specifically for the Zodiac and the specialised versions eventually fell behind the generic palm ones in terms of speed.

The GP32 originally didn't support homebrew (memory is a bit hazzy, too much time spent in the student bar :p, so if i'm wrong there I place the blame on cider), where as the GPx2 has been made with homebrew development as a key factor. I think this will have a hugh impact on how it handles for programming.

Just noticed on thier website pictures, looks like it has a battery indicator ...... someone's listening after all :p

Probably it has been said before, or is totally obvious, but:

- is the GPX2 totally compatible with all GP32's sw (even if the two CPUs are fairly different - the new one is dual core the old one not) ?

- will the new SDK help newbies to program easily the dual core CPU (i.e. take care of the particular nature of the CPU and let the programmer work trasparently) ?

- what are the real (not supposed) features of the graphic accelerator ? Can thy be exploited in emulators ?

- Squidge spoke about the impossibility of feeding code to the CPU: what does that exactly mean ?

Thanks a lot.

I like it! All you hot-heads buy one as soon as possible, and I'll wait 6 months to see if anything falls off, and wait until Mr.Mirko develops an SDK replacement, and then I'll get one :)

Even a 2D accelerator can be used for 3D purposes. It all helps. I'm looking forward to some 3D games.

Also, if it runs linux (a full installation of feather linux with GUI, browser, apps etc fits in 64MB easy) that would be amazing.
