Release Diablo

Awsome work notaz, your contributions never cease to amaze us!

Also, I apologize if this was answered but is the Hellfire expansion compatible with this static recompile?

And just for curiosity's sake and sticking with Blizzard games, if this were done with Warcraft 3 would it be a slideshow? Either this way or with X86/Wine?

Running 3D Windows games requires Direct3D support, which I don't even have working yet. That aside, I seem to remember Warcraft III was playable on the 450-650MHz range with a high-end GPU, which is not completely out of the question for a static recompilation on the Pyra. I believe it would likely require reversing and optimizing critical paths, however, and probably be quite a bit more work than Starcraft/Diablo - even with glshim and WINE.

Hi all :)

@ notaz: thank you so much for porting Diablo to the Pandora ! I played the shareware version only a little bit yesterday evening, and the game seemed faster on the Pandora than on my good ol' 486DX2 66 MHz !

Quick play with Diablo and i'm impressed... what a port, a really good work.

Playing with touchscreen is really great, sound and general speed is very good also on my CC pandora..impressive :)

One minor bug i found...on main menu selecting replay intro... the video is played fine but out of the border is visible parts of main menu graphics....but it's not very important.

Big thank notaz!!
@ Farox: that video didn't work for me, which is normal since I'm playing the shareware version, but that menu froze somehow (flames were still moving though) when I clicked on OK,  then I had to hard reset the Pandora (Rebirth).

Cheers, Magic Sam

I saw this pop up on the Repo, and after seeing how much effort you put into Starcraft, I was like he's done the impossible again. Thank you Notaz, going to check this out. I've never actually played Diablo, so like my first intention, actually Pandora is a gateway to brand new gaming experiences for me.

I grabbed the shareware version since I can't find my copy.  Everything I tried is working great.  I think the Pandora screen is just a bit too small for me to play this as well as I used to.  I sometimes miss some little things.  I do like like it, though, since it seems like the Pandora controls are perfect for it.  It looks and sounds wonderful.  Thanks a bunch.

The "Z" button is your friend then... increasing gamma a lot also helps

My gamma was very high.  I guess I forgot about z.  My eyes are just really bad sometimes.

I tried the shareware (will search for my full version, soon).

It doesn't run on my FW 1.61: not enough space availlable on drive Z

"Z:" is linked to "/". That's strange!

However, it runs great when I start the OS from SD-card, since it has much more storage.

Not sure if this is a bug but when I press the left shoulder button, it locks the character in fighting mode and can't walk anymore.

@Ryo if that is acting like shift then it is the correct behaviour. It is a handy thing to do sometimes, i.e. standing outside of a door, dealing damage into a room of enemies, sometimes you don't want to accidentally click on a space between enemies and have your character walk into the room where they are vulnerable to attack

I understand, but then it just locked in fighting mode even after all zombies are killed.  How are you supposed to gt out of slashing mode in order to walk again?  Clicking either left or right shoulder doesn' seem to change it.

I know what my problem was.  Since my default desktop has been Openbox, I forgot that I ran Diablo there.  After switching back to XFCE, the game does not have that problem anymore.

so far so good, I'm on the sixth floor atm...

edit: I've seen something strang that I don't remember from the PC version...when coming back to an already explored level. the first time I move in the upper right/left direction, the cells are fully lit for a short moment before being shown with the correct darkness. It might have been that I never noticed it on the PC since I play at much lower gamma level, I'm not sure, but it seems to me that it's not the kind of bug you would have introduced in the port...

I played the demo version. It was very enjoyable. Good framerate too. thanks for the port.

I tried playing this morning, however it seems to more or less lock up the system (without starting). Not sure when I last updated my OS, so I left the OS update running before leaving for work (my Pandora wifi downloads at 80-180 k/s, so I am anticipating it may take a little while to update). Assuming the update is finished tonight/tomorrow I will try launching again to see if it gets further.

I'm not seeing this on level1 <-> level2 transition, does it have to be further in the game?
Good framerate too.
It's fullspeed at ~50% CPU usage @1GHz, game is fixed at 20fps.

Black screen or something else?

I actualy never played D1 besides the PC Demo multiplayer back then which we did in school. Demo only had 2 dungeon levels afaik but was quite fun. However I really dug into Diablo 2 so I missed D1 not much. D1 didn't even had a stash chest at all in town when I remember correctly. No clue how to manage the loot in this game. :-||"
