    You mean another splash screen we have to either click through or wait half an eternity to disappear and actually get to the game or app in question? Sheesh, it'll be like competition entries all over again :(

    Developed on the Pyra, the world smallest Debian laptop. Gets attention from Debian people :)

    Thanks for (most of) the feedback. I'll do a little work on the red and green haired ones. (Are those also the favorite hair styles/colors?) I agree that "sexy" is probably not the connotation we want to have with the Pyra (for once it'd be nice to sell a product apart from sex appeal, I suppose!), though I hope to keep the nearly-Greek-goddess type feel ;) .

    I like a tastefully done splash screen, but maybe that's just me. (Lighting a flame in hand seems pretty cool to me, too.) Some don't seem to be too tasteful in hindsight, but taste is a subjective thing ;) .

    I think a "Developed for Pyra" splash-text is a little less wordy but still ambiguous enough. It could be developed for Pyra, but ported to other things. Of course, "Developed exclusively for Pyra" means you're only distributing the dbp or what not.
    If someone plays it on another computer (probably linux), they won't be confused about its ability to be run on their computer (which isn't a Pyra), even if the splash screen says it was developed for the Pyra :) .

    I still think it is a bit much.  if you are going to do it anyway, yes, she needs red hair.  I like the hair of the second one on the first row, and the garment of the first one on the second row (that one also is my second favorite of the hairstyles shown for this type of image; I can't tell what is going on with the feet on that one, but I like it better than the boots and the leg warmers).

    The gods are people too, and not all of 'em are "sexy", by whatever standard one uses. :p

    Maybe it can be used as the boot screen or something.

    Most of those are a licensing requirement I guess.  I don't have an issue with intro screens provided they can be skipped (assuming it isn't using the display time to load the game in the background), but on disc-based consoles, I hate those splash starts  you have to wait through, and the disc only spins up after they've faded to black...grr!

    I've recently been thinking of how to market the Pyra to other older gamers, when people can buy a Raspberry Pi2 and install retropie for relative peanuts.  One of the ideas was to point out how many of the emulators people run on their phones and pis was developed first by and for this community, to emphasise how awesome these guys are and how you often get things first and for free.  A splash screen that remained on straight ports at least might be a good advert for this community too, if developers want to use it.

    And do understand that I'll write a utility that enables people to remove it from software they put on their pyra if that's even remotely possible. DO NOT WANT. It was bad enough having to sit through interminable splash screens for competition entries, I don't want to have the same image popping up every time I start an app or game.

    Guess what? I KNOW IT WAS DEVELOPED FOR PYRA, I'M BLOODY RUNNING IT ON ONE.

    Perhaps this sort of thing would be better on a game's menu screen? Something like this:

    <game name>

    <new game>
    <load a save game>
    <options>
    <credits>

    Created for the Dragonbox Pyra
    <Pyra mascot>
    <Pyra picture>

    I have to agree that I wouldn't want to have an additional delay in the loading time of any program just to display such a splash screen.   That said I'm not opposed to having such a thing displayed while loading if loading is going to take a while anyway.

    Of the sample images, if I had to pick a favourite it would be the one at the bottom left, with the orange hair and blue dress.

    That was what I meant when I said

    It can even be animated, and it won't make everyone hate the Pyra/Pyra homebrew.

    Honestly, I think this would be better for the Credits/About page (assuming the game/software has one).  I could see that being cool, yet non-intrusive.

    Yes, people would certainly be free to put the [animated] logo (or their own version of it) wherever. It's not like I would (or could) enforce something like that ;) .

    How about to show such a splash screen only in the non Pyra versions together with the text: get a Pyra to remove this annoying splash screen :)

    If Pyra/Pyrrha is a classical figure, wouldn't something along the lines of a cloak or toga be more appropriate? We don't need to be strictly historically accurate, but it might be good to be in the right figurative ball-park.

    (sketch to follow, when I've scanned it and tidied it up)

    I can't think of anything that would turn me off a product faster...

    I do definitely think this sort of thing is better suited to a credits screen than a pre-game advertising reel.

    The target market for wierd open-source handhelds does not like having marketing material shoved in its face.

    So do you all expect that all games developed for Pyra will load near-instantly?

    Or do you prefer to get no splash screen, since you can deduce that the game is actually loading from the indicator led indicating disk IO activity? Or do you want a completely black splash screen?

    I don't mind a splash screen at all, in fact I like to get some visual clue that the game (or application even) is actually loading. And why not something like this?

    Of course a non-skippable intro sequence that does not do any loading in the background and which is just there to advertise some brand is silly and annoying.

    I had a go:

    [IMG]

    Similarish pose to ible's, more classical, and better covered, but lacking a face at present.

    Might try redrawing...
