Anybody considering picking up an Oculus Rift..?

I heard they are having a population problem in the Netherlands, something like the dutch population is dying off or decreasing at a significant rate. This got me thinking. While under population is definitely not a problem worldwide, and don't see that problem decreasing... Like ever... But I wonder how much of an effect "virtual or simulated" encounters will have on population as technology increases. Maybe not this generations problem but maybe our grandchildren or their children. (Assuming the reader is not already a grandparent)

Porn of all sorts makes lots of money.  No reason to expect it won't be a major use for the Oculus Rift.
If the rumours are true, it was porn that made VHS once popular (over Betamax etc). Same storys exist about DVD and Blu-ray, so it would not be surprising if porn will give the final push for Oculus to be most popular. ^^

Don't forget the internet.

Is BD porn even popular?
Seeing every pimple and crinkle? I can't imagine this to be popular.

Instead of photoshopping or blurring this, you can use a lower resolution to begin with, but I have no idea how this market really works.

Judging by the amount of BD rips/HD videos I see kicking around the place, yep.

Disclaimer: I don't actually know about any of this stuff that you lot are talking about because I don't watch porn, in fact I don't even know what porn is.

Good question, no clue. :D I prefer the low res Internet so or so but I've heared that the first 3D porno was very successful onto Blu-ray. Asian 3D remake of "Sex and Zen" afaik. So 3D indeed seems to have a bright future. ;)

Notch must have been unable to resist the lure of VR...

I'm picturing Notch as that guy who took up refuge in a bomb shelter December 31st, 1999, only to emerge a month later to a bit of embarrassment that the world kept turning and all the doomsday prophecies turned out to be false.

I quite dislike mojang, the game is fine, but the company and their ethics and way they feel they can try to steer popular opinion using the thing they basically got lucky and fell into a pile of money with is sickening.

He dosen´t seem to steer popular opinion...popular opinion is steered towards him IMHO.
A while back there was some speculation and I remember reading from mojang themselves, they were going to take down minecraft in response to SOPA. I can't seem to find the quotes anymore, possibly because of all the bad press it brought onto mojang instead of the thing they were trying to put into the spotlight. But I guess they decided to just take down just their website for a day rather than the game it's self indefinitely if it passed.

but anyway, they were at least thinking about taking down their game to support an agenda that really has nothing at all to do with their game or business. While I'm against SOPA as well, I think they were going about it completely wrong. It's within the same realm of thought of overly intrusive DRM to prevent piracy, screwing your honest customer base to solve a problem. Except in this case the problem and solution had nothing to do with each other.

They share the same general type of mentality as the libretro/retroarch developers, (except retroarch guys don't have enough pull and don't charge for their products) but they have a nice popular product, but then they try to leverage their product or support for it to influence a particular way of thought. It's one thing to be opinionated, but another when you use unrelated resources to try influence minds.
