2000 nubs ready to rumble (2010 - 12 - 07)

ED are you going send out new units to those that have broken nubs or wait until you can fix them yourself and fix them then send them out? I'm just wondering if any of the new units will go to people that have broken nubs. How about if the LCD cable is broken? Will those people get new units, will you use some of the cables you have now to fix those, or are all the cables you have right not going into new units and being shipped to customers that have not received their units?

Basically will any of the Pandoras that you guys can finish when Texas ships the nubbed boards go to replace broken units for any reason or will you wait until you can fix their units before shipping them back?

Exciting times. Sure there was a good long period of frustration waiting for everything to fall into place. Glad that not just that the hardware build (and building) is getting refined, but so is the software. Can't wait for this and the tv out cables. :)

As a Canadian uni student who has been watching this project from a distance for a year or so...

I just wanna say...

I love the Pandora. :D Finally started the pre-order process today. It's one thing to support open source software/hardware with your words, and a completely different thing to support it with your wallet. The Pandora is just the thing every CS major needs. I'm a programmer and an electronic musician, so the deal just gets sweeter. X]

This project has plenty of distant followers. I know several people here in British Columbia who are looking forward to getting a Pandora, but just didn't understand how to pre-order. A lot of these guys may be completely silent, since they never visit these forums (I haven't until tonight X] ), but they check the front page every few months.

You guys managed to push the first batch out, and you had a LOT more problems leading up to that. We're confident you can pump out a second, and a third, and maybe eventually get a steady production line. The Pandora is an epic device, and that's exactly how it'll go down in history. Your good name is not yet sullied.

ED, awesome job, and everyone loves you! Now go relax with some World of Goo! Or maybe package it first, please? ;)

Thanks guys :D

Naaa, finished World of Goo long ago and don't have an ARM port to package ;)

But I repackaged VisualBoyAdvance for nice GB / GBC emulation instead ;)

Only 900 in the wild. Batch 1 is 4000. You are preordering for Batch 2 at this point. Batch 1 filled late July/August due to canceled orders so you aren't too far behind considering a good bit of Batch 1 was placed Oct 2008.

This is being sent from PANDORA#14

Has a replaced LCD, badass newer case build compared to initial case with gaps, wonky A button, shady shoulder buttons, and big screen bezel gappage. I was twice as happy after opening the box with the new LCD/case.

The believers are in for a treat. I hold, I believe!

Now I had heard the bud was good but HOLY SHIT! :) Great 1st post.

@ Link : Thats interesting that your owning #14 as surely bar being opened to replace the LCD cable and put back together, that is literally number 14 off the line and thus not 'newer' but rather one of the first built. I've owned 2 from the first 100 and again both of mine have been great. What was your first # unit?

I imagine the next MP batch, with new nubs, better designed new cables, unpainted buttons and shoulders, and with 'extra care' with the screws will be simply beautiful, not to mention many hued creations!

Well OPT you are hopefully on the final leg of an amazing task that will reap dividends and spread alot of enjoyment and fulfilled ideals :)

Yes!

Unfortunately, Trey has a meeting today so can't visit the company (but that's not the board companys fault today), but he'll try to do so on Friday.

My personal guess is that the board company wanted to wait for the final nubs to arrive (the 150 that all passed their test :D ) before really continuing production.

I mean, if we couldn't have fixed the nubs, we might've go bust - and as we pay the board company after delivery, they probably rather had a lot unpopulated parts there (they can be used for other projects) than populated boards without nubs and a company (us) who couldn't pay because the nubs killed us :)

Death by Nubs is no laughing matter.

It's now winter in Montreal, the snow is everywhere, the bike is in the shed, the long metro ride to work is trying my patience. Pandora will change that last point for sure. Damn right you still have my support.

Ah crap :( Let me guess, the company won't have time on Friday...

Can't the factory just take a few quick photos of about a thousand boards? If they are ready, this shouldn't be a problem. Trey can always confirm later on.

:( Aww. I was expecting good news. Well, such is life. No hard feelings Trey, I'm still thankful you're doing this for all of us. :)

Strange, even without having my Pandora I still feel that OP have fulfilled my order in a way. Just participating in these forums/boards was a giant first for me and well worth the money paid for the actual hardware. lol, I have a $300 membership in a specialised music website/forum and I rarely visit it but I browse these boards at least 10 times a day. Alec's Pandora log and the Pandora toolbar are a must in my day. Cancel?, pah! My order was delivered long ago, I'm just waiting for the icing on the cake, which I have been eating for more than a year. Go OP!

$300 dollars is worth the exercise my witty sarcasm gets every day when replaying to posts on this forum. $300 dollars to get in the club, Free Pandora will be delivered in 2 Months™

I would be happiest to hear there' a tracking # for the next thousand boards en route to Village Hall.

It is highly doubtful that the company will solder the nubs THAT fast. Aside from that, I agree 100%.

Well, it's 6 solder joints per nub, two nubs can easily be soldered within 1 minute.

If they have 2 workstations for that, soldering 1000 boards takes about 500 minutes, which is about 8 hours.

If they have the boards and want to do it, they could do it.

But I wouldn't bet on it.

After all, they might've had other jobs too while our nubs were delayed and now have to give us a time slot first.
