Without making a big deal of it, isn't BT already trademarked (and not by British Telecom)?

Would it be safe to use "BT" on the Pandora?

Yes. Tademark requires context. For example, there is a mobile phone company called Orange - but obviously you can still use the word orange for unrelated services/goods.

Hmmm, I'm not a big fan of blue LEDs in my gear...in fact I usually pull them apart to disable them whenever possible (USB hard drives, hubs, etc). Hopefully Pandora's LEDs are not insanely bright. They need to be bright of course, but not 'burning my retina' bright.

Also not "it's like a disco in my bedroom when the lights are off even if the computer is powered off" bright. My bluetooth dongle is going to get a lampshade or something one of these days.

Regarding the use of 'first batch', the same was done with the gp2x (first edition), would that not sound a little better?

The trouble is I that there's a difference between 'first edition' and 'first batch'. 'first edition' implies that there is a difference between that and later editons. Where as hopefully, other than the difference in the silk screen, there shouldn't be any difference between batches.

lots of things are annoying, but only when taken out of context, looked at at the right scale the silkscreen lettering looks ok, zoomed in it looks messy, lots of things are designed in offbeat ways, looking at my laptop right now I can see

acer
extensa7620z

in different fonts/styles/sizes

some buttons with

big italic e
some sort of lollypop logo
a speech-bubble with a magnifying glass (I think thats search)
a recycle logo (or is it meant to be reload?)
Saturn (I think that would be internet ..maybe)
envelope (ahHA! email)
a sans serif capital P

not one of these uses the same font/style

same for the mmc/sd/mmmpro/xd port .... all different styles and logos

the light bulb indicating power is smaller than all the others, the wireless logo is wrong and the battery icon is the largest and has a superfluous +- symbol inside it, proving the device is not running on positrons or dark energy... obviously.

the Intel inside sticker is obviously cheap and alien, thankfully the Vista sticker is missing, since I only run Linux on all but my games machine. :D

that`s a commercial device, obviously, OP are not the only people who have trouble, or is it a problem?, up until this point I hadn`t even noticed, I had to scrutinise the thing to notice the "problems", oh!, and for those worried about wearing the silkscreen lettering off, several of these logos/texts on the front lip of the case (where my wrists rest as I type) show no signs of wear, so assuming the same quality, it shouldn`t be an issue for a year or so.

off-topic: someone mentioned the crappy colour scheme of the new BT vans, I always thought it was stupidly dumb of them to change those bright yellow vans that where frequently parked at the side of roads/junctions while the engineers worked on lines and boxes, to ... inconspicuous, almost camouflaged, drab/dirty grey/blue, I do wonder if their accident rate for service vans has gone up appreciably since they made the change, bright yellow made better sense when they where parked on (or half on) busy roads imo.

Regarding the brightness of the LEDs, do I misremember, or are they variable brightness controlled in software?

Which there in itself makes it different lol
After all the discussion before, it made me think "first (dodgy) batch."
Where want to think limited edition, special edition.
But feel I need to say this even though should be obvious:
As long as didn't delay it, and I can easily live with it. Just a pleasant discussion.

Edit: missed word "with" lol

First edition has always meant first run, whether it be books or even trading cards. There is nothing different. (except in the case of certain trading cards, where they specifically label them as first edition)

I know no other definition of first edition. If you truly believe that first edition implies a difference, then I suggest you show me what makes you believe differently.

To be honest, OP can call it anything they want as long as we get our hands on it soon.

Instead of "BT" maybe "Bt" is better or even "bt".

For SD slots maybe white boxed 1 and 2 could be unboxed Alpha and Beta symbols, α and β.

Kagato had some good ideas using the USB symbols instead of the letters USB. It's too bad they can't be used but they looked clean:

You're quite right. I was thinking of MkI MkII.

Jeez I'm having a slow day!

When it comes to books; the later editions normally contain either corrections for spelling mistakes or updated information :p

EDIT: Street Fighter II Championship edition contained extra playable characters ;)

For the Publisher yes, for the book collector no. The Publisher has a broader definition of First edition, making your statement true. However, the book collector's definition makes a certain number of later editions the same, and then one way later different. (Publishers consider it to be first edition as long as nothing is changed, where as Book collectors call it first edition only for the first print run)

Ah. I was thinking more about technical books really. These tend to be changed as and when the technology is, especially if they are about programming languages.
