Quake Already Ported To Gp2x (YES! It's true!)

Squidge, you rock. As for Q2, I seem to recall it running OK on a Pentium-90 with 16MB ram and software render. Even with RISC and no floating-point, that sounds like it just might be doable on 2 x 200MHz, 64MB, and QVGA res? Maybe? I can dream? ;)

What Are You Going To Play On Your Gp2x?

Really looking forward to finally playing handheld SNES with decent speed and a full button set. Final Fantasy III in particular. Also looking forward to the Quake I port. Agreed, MOOI was the most fun. MOOII was very good too tho... they just crippled it in a few ways (like the "command...

Bit Of A Last Minute Letdown (news)

AC3: Who cares? This is not a DVD player. I certainly wasn't expecting to copy full VOBs to the unit, and the vast majority of re-encoded sources (ie Xvid and DivX) just use stereo MP3. Plus, even if you do have the odd video with AC3, it should be relatively quick and painless to recode just...

    Great Freeware

I think this one is better: IZArc 7-Zip only supports 12 compression formats, IZArc supports almost 50, including the 7-Zip format.

    Great Freeware

It has an unlicensed freeware version available for personal, educational and non-profit use. It sometimes reminds you about its license, if you use it during 9-5 M-F workhours, that's about it. Oh, and it nags you to update it after 90 days.

    Great Freeware

Text/Code Editor I can't stand Context.. it has about the worst word-wrapping functionality I've ever seen. Try pasting in a really long line of text, and then word wrapping it. You can't! It only supports "hard wrapping" when you're entering new text. I've tried tons of text/code editors...

    Encoding Problem - Misaligned Horizontals

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give that a shot when I get home. But.. what is so special about 320x172? I have encoded at many other resolutions, including 320x160, 320x162, 320x164, 320x176, etc, and they always worked fine before. I thought as long as the width is a multiple of 8 (or 4?)...

    Encoding Problem - Misaligned Horizontals

Hi there, I have encoded numerous video clips before, I know my way around VirtualDub pretty well. I am having a problem now though, when I encode my clip, the horizontal lines are not lined up properly, it's like the next line is starting too early, so I get crazy stairstep distortion and the...

    Rechargeable Batteries

One reason you'll never find NiMHs for sale already charged, is that they self-discharge... that is they lose energy over time just sitting on a shelf. That is NiMH's only downside... but it's pretty inconsequential because you can charge them to "top them up" anytime you want, as opposed to...

C64 - Impossible Mission On Blu?

Well I tried the multiFW & Pacrom, didn't help. (BTW, you should really try Slubman's) So then I downloaded the Frodo source code, (I am an experienced coder, although never on the GP32, and my C is rusty as hell) determined to find what was throwing the error.. and while searching for that...

    Flu Light Not Working

My front light stopped working within 24 hours of receiving the unit. In fact the FL button became an "instant crash" button.. the screen would go all crazy bright and flickery and then it would lock up. I have a BLU now.

C64 - Impossible Mission On Blu?

One of my favourite games of all time is Impossible Mission on the C64. In fact this is one of the major reasons I purchased a GP32, to be able to play this on a handheld. Well, it worked just fine on my FLU. But I have been completely unable to get it working on my BLU. I have tried many...

    Gpquake 0.5

Awesome work! Quake is now truly playable on the GP! I get about 9-15fps on fullscreen (not doubled), very high detail, @ 166MHz. People's eyes already drop out of their heads when I show them Doom, all the emulators, or a DivX movie.. can't wait to show em Quake now. :D

    Gp Book V1.0

Very nice program for reading basic text files. For this to be useful as a full-fledged e-book reader though, I would humbly make two suggestions: - Auto-scroll (variable speed) - Ability to read text files stored in a ZIP file. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the good work! :)

Can I Use A Smc Reader/writer To Format A Smc Card

I've always read that it handles both FAT12 and FAT16. Eg: http://www.devrs.com/gp32/files/gp32devfaqs.php#SMCFormat However, now that I think about it, I believe you're right... I didn't use the card reader to format it, I used PacROM from the MultiFirmware. I just knew it wasn't with...

    Flu Or Blu?

My only complaint about the BLU is that the screen seems much less reflective than the FLU. Presumably this has something to do with letting more light through from the backlight. However... it also means (IMHO) that the BLU is next to useless without the backlight... it's practically...

Can I Use A Smc Reader/writer To Format A Smc Card

I have 3 SMCs. The first I formatted with PC-Link, the second two with my PC via a card reader (Lexar 6-in-1), all of them work just fine for me. In fact, I haven't had my GP32 connected to my PC since I first got it, I use the card reader for everything. Just make sure you format it for...

How Play Midi Files On Gp32?

Lapolla seems pretty poor (hiccups and crackles a lot) for anything other than the most simple MIDIs. What I don't understand is, the hardware specs for the GP32 (see for example: http://gp32eu.com/system.html), specially state that it has "16Poly S/W MIDI Support". OK great, so how do I...

    Multiplayer Doom

I don't think a USB link would be possible. The problem with USB is that it is client-server, not peer-to-peer (like Firewire for example). GP32 is a USB client and needs to connect to something that acts like a USB server (like a PC), not another GP32 client. But then again, who knows? GP32...

    FLU has gone haywire

Hi, I just got my GP32 with FLU last Thursday. Something is very very wrong with the FLU now. When I try to activate it, the screen starts getting white flashes (ie the actual pixels are changing, not just the light flashing), and if I persists it usually crashes (to Spiv's BIOS monitor with...
