    Squidgesnes V0.37a Released

Actually, decimate means to reduce by 1/10th, not divide by 10. It stems from when the Romans would kill every 10th person to punish rebellion or mutiny. In modern general usage however, it simply means to significantly reduce.

You can install Commander Keen under Win XP by running it in compatibility mode for Windows 95. (Right click the installer, click Properties, go to Compatibility tab) Doing it thru DOS command line (ie, Start/Run/'cmd') also works.

    GP2X Turn Based Strategy Ai

I think "hotseat" rolls off the tongue a bit better. ;) (Wow... Wiki really DOES have an article for absolutely everything: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotseat_(multiplayer_mode) ) Best of luck with your Adv Wars clone. :)

Lots of good docs here: http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/Hardware_Documentation As far as the 2nd core 'soaking up resources', the only thing to worry about there is power consumption, and I believe as of v0.A of Ryleh's minilib (which seems widely used), the 940 is turned off by default.

So, in theory, a kernel module (similar to /dev/dualcpu, which the video player uses) could be written, to allow the 940 direct access to the sound hardware, making it more feasible to use it as a sound processor? Are there any disadvantages to that approach, aside from the aforementioned...

Dude, that is some serious voodoo. Worked for me too. You don't need to start a game either, just quit Keen as soon as you get to the menu. You DO need at least the shareware levels installed though, just running the bare .gpe won't work. You can get those here...

The new "background toggling" build fixed the rom-loading crash for you? Mine still locks up. :(

I tried using the posted working config, and have also now upgraded to 1.4.0, still no luck.

Verified a working 0.34 install, then copied in just the new .gpe. Same results. Here's the contents of my config file: loadrom = /mnt/sd/roms/snes wantscale = false fpsdisplay = false vsync = false fpslimit = false fskip = 2 apuenable = true apumute = false absromdir = true snesjoytype =...

    Squidgesnes 0.35

I've been playing with the settings, the only one that has made a difference so far is the fullscreen scaling, turning that on just gives a black screen instead of the skin. I will try with a working 0.34 install.

At current count we have 5 ppl working, 5 ppl crashing. Any chance of maybe putting out a debug build that outputs a log when loading a ROM, or something along those lines?

Same here... on ROM selection, I see the skin background then it locks. Cannot get back to SNES menu, have to reset GP2X. I have tried 4 roms (FF3, FZero, SFII, Super Offroad), happens to all of them. They all work fine on 0.34, installed a directory over. I have tried both zipped and...

OK, so if I'm reading this all correctly, offloading either the sound or gfx engines to the 940 both suffer the same end problem.. simply put, trying to get the final processed gfx or sound bytes to the hardware efficiently, without trickling them back to the 920 so it can properly hand them off...

You guys are discussing ways of offloading graphics rendering to the second CPU, and the problems involved in that (bus bandwidth, shared resources, etc), right? Has the possibility of trying to use the 2nd CPU for sound processing instead been discussed? That always seemed to be a big (if not...

    Snes Transparencies, A Temporary Solution?

DaveC is simply suggesting something that would make it MORE accurate than it is now. How is that ironic or inconsistent?

    Look Out Slashdot Alert

There are always idiots in any sufficiently large group. Still, I won't knock the Slashdot exposure. Hundreds of thousands of Linux (and other assorted) geeks reading about the GP2X can only be a good thing in my book. :)

Yes, lots of skepticism there. I tried to counter with some positive comments: http://hardware.slashdot.org/comments.pl?s...80&cid=14380747

    Good Poker Game?

Well gameplay is far more important than fancy sound or graphics, especially for something like Poker, where really all that matters is how well the AI plays. I will certainly try to find this SMS game, thanks for the suggestion. :)

    Video Conversion Tutorial

Nice guide. :) One point: you mention playing the file in VLC player to figure out the frame rate, but this is possible to find out right in VirtualDub. Just to to "File Information" in the File menu and it will give you the stats for the video and audio streams. Another way is to go to Frame...

    Good Poker Game?

I kind've caught the poker bug over the holidays, and am looking for a good version to play on the GP2X. Can anybody recommend one? I did some searching for Megadrive/PCE poker games but didn't find much... maybe I should be looking for a more general Casino type game.
