real-time is winning, as one of the voters wished to have his vote moved across to "Real Time" :p anyway, the poll has a good few days to decide until i get to work on it (thankfully).

Something else to bare in mind is that its an RPG creator, so while i'll make a couple of demos and so forth, which would you prefere to make? i like turn-based but i honestly dont know if i could spend the amount of time required to get all the enemys balanced - with real-time its easy to change difficultys without having to edit the enemys again, for example - if a boss is too easy, just slap some more enemys in there with him ;) its lazy but it works.

Id like a game where u fight the small time enemiies in real time, and the bosses in a final fantasy style.

I think you should do a choice between waiting turn based and active turn based, like Chrono Trigger :D, or program all 3 styles into the engine and have the maker choose the style of battle *CT and RT battle system's don't really need battle BGs, but the FF style does

I think turnbased would lead to an overall slicker and more proffesional looking engine, and if I were making an RPG, thered b a lot more u could personally customise in turnbased battles imo.

If it's turn based, would it be random-encounter or would you see the monsters on the map, and enter into a turn-based battle only if they touch you on the map?

I haven't voted yet... I remember liking very much the system used in Grandia II on the Dreamcast, which was turn-based but not completely... speed (each character & enemy had its own speed factor) was also factored in, so really fast enemies got more hits in for example... that would probably be very difficult to implement though...

Well, I don't know. ... so will it likely be random-encounter or not?

REAL TIME FOR ME!!!!

sorry but I just tend to get bored with turn based games. even great games like some of the final fantasys and golden sun I love but tend to get bored with. ;)

where as games like zelda and even the new final fantasy crystle chronicales (ok yea I spelled it wrong) i don't get bored with nearly as easily.

If it's turn-based, it'll be like a final fantasy clone (not mystic quest or chronicles), so random battles.

What do you mean by this, Dozer? How would turn based make it become slicker and more professional?

damnit...i changed my mind too...i didn't even THINK that someone could do, oh, say, a kingdom hearts remake  <----add some drool, no, a lot of drool...

People should read the entire thread before voting. Maybe Pirotic can edit his post to include this?

Good idea, i've edited my original post.

i doubt many people will read every post before deciding tho, i suspect they'll just go straight to the last page :D

Real-time would be great. I never really liked any of those Square FF-games, but Kingdom Hearts is just brilliant. Nothing beats an RPG with a lil' action in it.

defiantelly real-time! As someone mentioned (sorry, forgot your name) we have many Turn-based games with OS9xGP, so realtime is the way to go.

i voted for ff style, because i think its easier in the editor to create enemies with turn based style
