Nintendo Wii Low Down...

Massive rom sharing would be impossible, seeing how roms would be freakishly huge!! And, who would do that if they own a wii. We've gotta help nintendo out in this battle of the consoles. Also, the wii will ALWAYS be connected to the internet, even when it's "off". So firmware updates are sure to come :(

So every single homebrew modification thingamajigger is gonna be completely unkown to nintendo? Cause that would be sweet, lol.

Huge?
NES ROMs < 512 KB
SNES ROMs < 8 MB
N64 ROMs < 32 MB

I guess Nintendo will just implement some kind of DRM e.g. the ROMs you download from them will only run on the Wii you used to download them

why 200 pounds? (i'm american and i don't have that funky sign) 130 makes itself out to be about $250.

in the UK we always pay roughly the same in £ as the americans do in $.

People are complaining about the price of the new ps3 at the £400 ish mark. Just look back at the price of the 3d0 and the sega saturn at UK launch, both at the £400 mark. I don't think it is a big price to pay considering it has a blu ray player built in too.

The Wii, IMO is going to continue the huge resurgence of nintendo, doing to the ps3 what the DS has done to the PSP.

But then such machines were much novel than PS3 or XB360 are now imho.

Cost is very important and with inherit Nintendo's games library... Nintedno will have a very good success with Wii.

I think it's important for everyone to keep in mind that Sony has never disappointed with the game libraries for the psx and ps2. They're pretty consistant with the game flow of home consoles.

Nintendo are the masters when it comes to security, so I think we just have to wait till there is a game with a bug released again :) Hooray, Sonic Team!

Historically PSX would dominate Saturn thanks to its far simplier, developers friendly architecture. So more games were showing on PSX and game ended.

PS2 was much more difficult to code but Sony was then an established entity in a console business. Sega was getting weak though DreamCast was kinda cute and got some great titles. But sheer power of PS brand, a new model PS2 and some kind of an inertia made all competitors' lifes rather difficult.

Now it's got evercomplicated even more. PS3 and XB360 are technogical monsters what will be hard to comprehend (especially the PS3) and to code. They are expensive but this time there isn't an argument of using PS2 like DVD player because both blu-ray and hd-dvd are basically nowhere.
It will means that costs of developing for those systems will be highest in a history for a console!

It's why Wii is more "balanced" imho. Screw its controller but look at the price! Internally Wii doesn't look so overcomplicated like its competitors so developing should be less costly as well. And I doubt a common player will be seeing that much of difference in actual game play especially if gameplayability will be good?

I don't like Nintendo personally but I think that a console should be cheap, simple, with good software support. Then it will sell and Wii is currently closest to such "ideal" as I know.

Yes, the wii will sell. Quite well may I add.

All I'm saying is, Sony makes sure to release some excellent games with each home console. As time progresses, even more great titles will be released.

Anyone to deny that quite a few great games have been released with the psx/ps2 is just lying to themselves. Or they're a fanboy.

I've heard the first playable demo may be available at e3 2007 :(.

the only thing stopping the Wii from selling well is the controller and 3rd party support. What they are going to lose is probably cross platform games. Nintendo will have to make up for the loss of these games, ALSO, there are going to be some games that you just can't use that controller for.

I think the major focus is going to be on the controller. I've used motion sensing controllers before and they aren't very good, often very iratic, so I hope the technology has been changed and perfected with the wii, because nobody wants a system that every game plays crappily because of over sensitive motion sensing. And because nobody really has used it, you don't see to many reviews, but the feeling at E3, at least from G4s perspective, was that it was a mixed bag, it worked well on some games, but other games, like Metroid, they said it was pretty hard to use, other than for aiming.

But again only time will tell. The wii will sell very well at first. I'll wait to see how well it sales after the first year and i would also bet the wii gaming library will be thinner than the Gamecubes, which i wouldn't be suprised if that isn't the reason for the Wii being able to play downloadable classic games. But again, only time will tell. I don't think the launch is going to be as important as where each system is a year after.

The only thing stopping the Wii from selling well is that it isn´t sold at all as of now. That´s impressive market analysis, don´t you think?

Oh, that sure is tragic. Come to think of, how many real cross platform titles does the DS have? None? How come it´s that sucessfull then?

You do. Because then you aren´t FORCED to "move around like a retard on speed"

They will hurt alot from not having cross platform games if developers don't want to develope for the controller. No more harry potter games, no more finding nemo games, no more any movie adaptations, no more Tomb raiders, etc. etc. since they're all pretty much the same for each console.

EDIT: it's not even worth it.

Oh and btw, the DS does have a couple cross platform games, but not many because the Hardware can't handle any of the cross platform games ;)

Cross platform will be easy, they'll just cross platform them to the Gamecube controller, but i really don't care about most cross platform games, accept for the american favorite, Madden Nfl.

no it won't be easy, the Wii is not as powerful as the PS3 and 360, they'd have to make the game for the Wii first then port it over to the ps3 or 360. Any game that needs the power of the 360 and ps3 to run is not going to be cross platformed to the Wii.
