Squidgesnes 0.35 Hack

Squidge - I've only just tried your emulator in the last couple of days - is there a clock speed setting?

Not in my version. But you can run it from a script which sets the clock speed first.

I can't get the overclocking script to work. I copyed it into programmers notepad but I just get a booted back to the menu screen when I execute it.

Here is the code

#!/bin/sh
mount /mnt/sd -o remount,sync
cd /mnt/sd/programs/
/mnt/sd/programs/cpu_speed.gpe 1 2 266
cd /mnt/sd/squidgesnes/
./sqidgesnes_dr2.gpe
sync
mount /mnt/sd -o remount,async
cd /usr/gp2x/
exec /usr/gp2x/gp2xmenu
#!/bin/sh

Good grief! I have no idea what all that does, but here's one I slapped together (I lifted it from other examples posted 'round these forums):

Code:
#!/bin/sh

/mnt/sd/cpu_speed 1 2 266
cd /mnt/sd/squidgesnes/
./squidgesneshack.gpe
sync

cd /usr/gp2x/
exec /usr/gp2x/gp2xmenu

... make sure the line endings are set for Unix.

Thats technically underclocking you know? The processor originally is 266mhz. Gph underclocks it to 200mhz to preserve bat life, but I noticed there is no real big difference between 266 and 200.. Maybe 5minutes? ^^

There is a 266Mhz version of the MMSP2, but that's not the one GPH used. That's why not every bodies GP2X can overclock to 266Mhz.

So yes, 250Mhz is overclocking.

Ah thats just silly.. Lucky me then i can go up to 300 ^^

btw fishybawb i didnt spell it wrong.. I copied it fro mym script. Thats what the file name was that reesy posted :)

EDIT: I just noticed a cheesy glitch so to speak with madplay and snes. When playing today I noticed that the snes emu makes my music play faster. Like it goes 10% faster or so on playback, so a Linken park song for instance sounds like linkin chipmunks.

Anyway, is there a simple way to fix this with a script? OR is it the emu that will change it indefinately? :eek: IT happens when it shows the white screen at the loadup of the emu. Drmd doesn't do this, so im wondering what it is. Heh... any help would be appreciated.

Could it be that this has something to do with the overclocking? Maybe the madplay doesn't adjust to the faster clockspeed??? Anyway, just stop listening to linkin park, they sound like chipmunks even at normal speeds :p

Edit: Try and make a script which overclocks madplay without starting anything else and then you will know if it has something to do with it. I might be totally wrong though. DrMD doesn't have to be overclocked to be playable...

That's not a bug, it's punishment for listening to linkin park

Yup, you're wrong.
Today i tried running ssnes (the new one - it finally works :) ) with madplay and made two scripts for that, one with 266mhz and one with no cpu clock change -> both run the mp3s too fast.

then i tried running madplay in standalone, the 200mhz one (or whatever the default clockspeed is) AND the 266mhz overclocked one ran both perfect the mp3s - so it can't be the clockspeed. :/

i hope somebody will figure it out soon... can't wait to play some snes with my own mp3s ;) (although i tried running super mario kart with the too fast mp3 in the background... 40fps? No, all i got was about 5 fps, with frameskip 3 and or without vsync - totally unplayable)

hm ... could it have anything to do with the fact, that the squidgesnes-hack by reesy doesn't use stereorendering anymore?

It might be... Ill have to check on that o_O

btw whats with your genesis emu reesy? It doesnt seem to like madplay and I only get like 5fps. While with the snes emu I get 30 at like 266mhz with sound off hehe. I dont understand the stuff behind all this as all I can code is a simple pong game hah.

Its probably because I still have a sound thread updating the /dev/psg device even when the emulator is not rendering sound. My sound thread current doubles as my frame timer, so it madplay is using dev/psg as well it will bugger up the timing in the emulator. I'll change this at some point but its not high on my list of priorities.

Maybe a similar issue?

Edit: spelling & removing random quote that popped up.

But Drak wasn't having issues with his Ssnes then, did you switch versions?

Is any one else having the same problem as me?

When I try to change any of the setting in the menu, then go to save, it goes back to gp2x main menu without saving.

I'm on the cramfs 1.4 firmware.

Any ideas people?

I don't know if it helps, but spout and quake also run the mp3s too fast...
