Turn on the volume limiter in the GP2X's system options.

My first post. Just got my GP2X today. Got a great deal on it. Guy who had it only had it for a few weeks. Used it on vacation and hadn't really used it much at all. Got it for $70. Check everything out on it and its working great, looks brand new.

He said he just didn't have time to use it as much as he thought he would.

got mine couple days ago... i think i got a bargain but not quite as much of one as sockpuppet999's!!

got a mk2 266mhz one with a 2gb card and carry case, rechargable batts and a tv out cable for £70.
pity the guy advertised the batteries as being 2500ma and the card as being a sandisk but they were 2000ma and a generic card.. also missing was the usb cable and spare cap.
but hey ho... still it all looks good and quickly filling up me card with retro goodness.

:)

look forward to frequenting these boards a lot to keep abreast with releases.

Yeah baby!!!

Have filled my 4Gig SD card (with stuff) and have just been playing some ZX Spectrum classics (Manic Miner - top ten of all time? Probably) and 'Kwirk' on the GB (I highly recommend it)!

Am going to spread the love to my less savvy friends and assist in purchasing and 'setting up'.

My other machine:

Thanks to all who write the code, you are appreciated...

Mine arrived in the post today and OMG what an absolute gem this is :D

I feel limited because im waiting for my SD card to arrive but ive been playing around with a few of the games that are preloaded, especially that asteroids lookalike ( Vektar ?) and ive not been able to put the thing down for the last few hours.

SHOCK HORROR  when i opened the white jiffy bag that it came in i noticed a little black thumbstick with "GP2X" on it and i almost cried because i thought it had broken off somehow, but when i opened the box there was another as shown on the box. Is this "GP2X" piece the new stick that ive seen mentioned or should i leave it as it is now ?

Well I guess I should say hi...

I found out about the GP2x about a week ago... and I have been trying to talk myself out of it, I have been spending the last week trying to convince myself somehow that this unit does not suit my needs. I have been a gamer all my life. I remember spending untold thousands of dollars over the decades on Atari, Mattel, Coleco, Nintendo well you get the idea.

I even went as far as going to the gamersection.ca website and load up my shopping cart (only to stop short of paying for the item). Well today I couldn't talk myself out of not owning one. Soooooooooooooo... back to gamersection.ca and I processed the order. Hopefully I too can say... "I Just Got My Gp2x!!! I just hope that I made the right decision... I have Toshiba e830 that can more than handle my multi-media needs... I was really looking at this as perhaps my last portable gaming unit. Love the nostalgia of playing all those old arcade games from when I was young. When games had more substance than flash...

But like I said... I hope I made a good decision and have found the holy grail for portable entertainment.

That's Craigix's joystick, it's been around for awhile, the newest joystick available would be the one that comes on the GP2X Value Pack, which is the one you have on right now if you purchased the Value Pack.

Unless you don't like the current joystick I wouldn't change it for the "GP2X" one. If you decide to change it, all it takes is a pull, though it might be on there tight.

Hi! I'm new here in the forum, my GP2X arrived just a week ago and , well, I can't stop to test it, so much games, emus, movies, music, books... it's incredible how much you can do with this little marvel.
A recommendation for the newbies like me: find a good "pack" of goodies on the mule, it's the easy way to start. ;)
See U!

Hi, welcome, I hope you'll enjoy all your moments with yout GP2X!
As for the ready packs, GP2X Torrents is also a good place to look at.

Ok... I can finally say "I Just Got My Gp2x... However... I am not happy... the seal was broken on the box when I received it... though everything seems to be there that is not the issue. I paid full price for a new unit... a box with a broken seal does not constitute a new unit to me.

A side question... I got the value package, shouldn't there be a screen protector loose in the box...? I kept reading how everyone needed to install their protectors... and why this was not done at the factory. Anyway... I will be calling my distributor on Monday.

Where did you get yours from? Maybe they test the units before shipping them out.

As for the "screen protectors", I think maybe you were reading about the MK I units, where you had to stick on the LCD screen protector. Now they do this in the factory before shipping.

Thanks for the reply...

I got it from gamesection.ca, and I am happy to know that the screensaver is already in place. I also thought that a spare cap came with the unit... but I am guessing that is not the case either. I guess all these posts are starting to confuse me, hard to keep track of what is in what package. Everything is there... I am just not happy about receiving an opened package... who is to say they didn't test it to see it would overclock to 300mhz and then give me a unit that only clocks to 240mhz.

Oh well... my intentions are to keep it... but I will still contact them to say I am not happy with receiving an open package.

Don't be so pessimistic!

There have been lots of posts from people complaining that people didn't test units before they sent them.

This isn't a factory mass produced PSP, this is an obscure Korean handheld. Things do go wrong etc. I have dealt with this company and found them to be great! I am sure they just test every unit before sending and I think you should be grateful for that!

And welcome.

Well I would like to think that the units are tested before leaving the factory... and if there was anything wrong it would be found at that point. As far as gamesection.ca I will deal with them on Monday to see what they have to say. They should also correct their shipping policies on their website... it lists shipping as 3-5 days... I knew that it would take longer than that... being on the westcoast. I took them 2 days just to process the order.

All in all I am relatively happy with the device... I am having issues with some of the emulators... and in some cases I am sure it is a rom issue. I don't really have time to sort through it right now, but I will read through the posts and see if I can solve some of my problems.

I just got my GP2X last weekend in Akihabara. I've been using it to emulate the SNES version of Wizardry I-III, and am loving it. Makes the hour commute in the morning and evening pass by very quickly. (Blog post with more details.)

I'm also interested in learning about some of the SDKs. I've been programming Java / Perl mostly (C / C++ back about 7 to 10 years ago, so I'll probably fool around with that) and am thinking about picking up the Open2x toolchain to play with the SDL library. Should be fun. If only there were more hours in the day...

I'm new here too, I have a modded Gp2x coming soon but it could take upto a week and a half to get here :(
I can't wait though it looks awesome, im charging my batteries now ! thats how much i'm looking forwards to it.

I got a psp already but the few games i have are utter crap ! I only use it for the internet and music.

Anyways just thought I'd introduce myself !
Cya !

On the subject of opened, and hopefully tested units...

I would have been really happy if the person I originally purchased from had tested the units before making me ship back TWO defective Gp2x's! After that fiasco, which wasted 3 weeks of my gaming time (lol) I looked for a new dealer who actually tested the units before shipping them out.

My new, new, new Gp2x works great! I wish it would overclock above 250, but you can't have everything. :)
