I Just Got My Gp2x!!!

I just got mine from Play-Asia - it is amazing with the 1.4.0 firmware, the LCD tweaker ulility is a gem.

This is an excellent device, and with the 2 gig card, well worth the money.

:D

Well I just sold my Psp and orderd one of these, looking forward to being part of the community :)

Should get it this week hopefully.

My GP2x arrived on Monday, my Ansmann batteries and charger arrived yesterday, so how frustrated am I that my SD card hasn't arrived yet!!!

Can't wait.

By the way, bought the unit from GBAX expecting the 1.4 firmware to be installed, but it's actually 1.2.1 (or eh, something). Bit nervous about flashing to 1.4, but want to use the unit for video, so don't want the sync problems.

One last thing, I ordered a screen protector and wondered if it was worth it. If I apply this to the screen and it gets scratched, is easy to peel off and apply another one?

I was really scared to flash the firmware too - but did it anyway.

Just put in some fresh batteries - put the files onto the SD card...

...Booted up, ran the utility file... all was good. B)

hello all!

well after finding out about this (and the GP32) lovely gadget on wikipedia i was itching to try. I was going to get the GP32 and then i decided to wait. Before convincing myself i got itchty figeritis and thought...ah to hell with it i'll buy it!

I had been discussing this with a pal over email, about this and the PSP, but the PSP is £300 and doesn't do homebrew (or doesn't now at least....) and i'd also like to be able to play the scumm games - just to make my mates jealous!

So i'm waiting for its arrival now, i've bought a 1GB SD card from ebay oh and i'm also looking forward to playing D&D Shadows of Mystara and Tower of Doom on the MAME!!

or maybe not after what i just read..... :(

Hey guys, just got mine today! I have a problem though. I went to remove the screen protector with that red piece of tape they have on it, and it broke off! And I can't seem to get at it with my nails. Any suggestions?

keep working the corner of it with your finger until it begins to lift.

Hm... couldn't get that to work. My brother suggested duct tape though, and that was able to pull it off! Now for some gp2x goodness....

Now THAT was a good idea!

I had the same problem and ended up using a sharp knife to pick at the edge...effective but it did scratch the outer edge of the actual screen, which is cool because there are no pixels on that border anyway...but that duct tape sounds ACE!

BrokenGp2xman, calm down. It is possible that whatever you buy you can have a faulty unit. Send it back, get a new one and change your user name. These things happen, and I am sorry you had a duff unit.

But it's only a faulty unit. You'll love it when you get a good one.

You got a faulty unit - and it isn't fair to judge a console when you didn't get a working device.

If you still hate the device - well, your loss. More for us. :D

Mine arrived yesterday, with some more bits and pieces today.

So far, I'm loving it - instructions, readme's etc helpful and complete - everything I've tried to do (as a non-teccie user) has worked as advertised.

Very pleased.

Mine arrived today B)

Got some nice candy with it as well, only had a quick play with it as I'm at work but looks sweeeeeet :D

Wee i just got mine, what amazes me is how small the unit actually is, i thought id be bigger.

also i seem to be missing the cd rom with games and utils or isn't there one supplied.
also the lcd protector is to big to put it on so i didn't put it on, and the protective plastic cover was a bit scratched :/ but it's hardly noticeable.

just have to wait on my sd card now since i can't do a thing for the moment with it

Haha, it seems like every second post in this topic is about the scratched screen protector.
Getting my gp2x soon and the first thing ill be doing is to peel the protective film off!
Seriously, the forum is full of posts explaining this issue...

Hey, Gang! I'm happy to say that I've now joined the ranks of happy GP2X owners.

I ordered mine from GamerSection.ca (here in Canada) last Monday and it arrived by Friday, just in time for the weekend. It's only been three days, but I'm very impressed and happy with my purchase. I'm also very proud to be supporting the open source community, too. Been a Linux user for about four years now.

The "coolest" thing I like about my GP2X is the fact that I can sit on the couch and play all of my favorite C64 games without having to hook up the old computer itelf. Seeing those games on a hand held device is quite remarkable to me.

Now, all I need is an Intellivision emulator and I'm set! :D

Thanks to all of the developers who take the time to contribute to the GP2X community. It is much appreciated. I'm looking forward to the device's future. Very promising.

Keep stickin' it to the corporations!
