I Just Got My Gp2x!!!

Rayek Posted Feb 6 2006, 10:11 PM

My order at friggin Lik-Sang is finally being processed! They quit being snobs, it seems. Regardless, I am so happy.

-The happiest bear in the land.

That's great, happy for you :)
Could you please let me know when you receive your unit how long it took for it to arrive and of what quality it is (comparable with units from other suppliers).

I JUST GOT MY GP2X!!!

After fiddling around a bit with it, I can't see why people are complaining about the joystick. The screen seems to flicker slightly, but I guess that's normal with LCD. Now to go around and download some emus! Any suggestions?

I Just Got My Gp2x!!!

I actually got it a few hours ago. I love it. I've been lurking for a while, reading other people's impressions, so I pretty much knew what to expect. And I'm impressed. For the most part.

*cough*

Nothing could prepare me for the joystick. I mean WOW. This thing is freaking HORRIBLE. I didn't expect it to be this bad. I'll order a replacement from DaveC real soon. Further disappointment came when I couldn't play MPEG4 files.

Listened to music for most of the day, then tried out SquidgeSNES, which works pretty damn great. Haven't touched any other emulators, though I certainly plan to - especially gnuboy and DrMDx.

When all's said and done, I'm proud to be a GP2X owner.

Edit (Didn't really want to make a new post):
I'm playing Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins now with gnuboy. Holy crap. It runs like a champ at 266MHz (which seems to be the highest I can clock it :(). I loved this game so much when I was younger. I mean seriously. Wow. I love this thing.

And I'm getting used to the joystick :p

Now my GP2X just crashes on the green screen while booting. It also wobbles oddly, and graphical glitches are visible, despite the scratched-up screen protector it came with.

DrMDx:
Tested, was working fine for a while, crashed. I think I toasted the batteries already. XD

gnuboy:
Does it play full speed? There's only one game I really liked on the GB, and that was Motocross Madness. I think I'll install this when I get a pair of rechargables.

squidgesnes:
This one displays some text and crashes, with a wobbly screen. I was looking forward to Rock'n'Roll Racing and MK3. :(

squidgeNgine:
dunno any games for this one, what are they like?

gp2psx:
This one will definitly be worth a try, I really want to see how Dead Or Alive plays on it. I don't expect to be able to play it, but I want to see it anyway! :p

mame:
I can't think of any games I'd really like to play for it. All the ones I can think of also exist for the Genesis.

I've played the SDL Sopwith c.a.m.e.l. thing, had loads of fun with it. I then got Quake and finished the first level. When I was about to save the game I accidentally selected "New Game" and lost it all. :'(

ps: I'm kidding about the scratched-up screen protector, I took the plastic thingy off and it looks fine. And the crash on boot is 99% likely to be because the batteries are now R.I.P. ;)

[edit] How come when I type "c amel" (without the space) it becomes "moron"??? o_O

Just got mine. Got the power adaptor. Didn't read close enough to see it wasn't a US-style plug. Fortunately I'm well-stocked in AA's tonight -- I'll wander around to see if I can find a plug adapter tomorrow.

I just got my replacement because mine had the firmware crap out. in mid-December, I paid full for the pre-order in October.

I am really really pleased with it so far (again), I like the TV-Out, it is so awesome. Just playing DrMD and GnuBoy on half a TV screen (the top and left halves, respectively) gives me great hope for the GP2X one day being a great console.

Thanks to gp32z.com for replacing my unit free of charge.

People who complain about the new ones really don't have it rough, I have a new one now and let me tell you the pre-order ones had much worse build quality.

I didn't have to scrape the white stuff off these terminals, they are completely shiny. Funnily enough the LED holes on the front really are white on the newer ones. I like it because it distracts me from the fact the LEDs are still being assembled into the GP2X's wrong (pushed back into the case).

My brother (who loves his GBA SP) likes the GP2X because it has a headphones plug, take that Nintendo, we don't have to buy a stupid adaptor to use the handheld as god intended.

after nearly a month of waiting for my 24/48 hour shipping I GOT MINE!

ive been a video game console collector for about 10 years now, got a massive collection everything from vectrex to saturns, and i love each one. trouble was, couldnt carry em all with me.

reading my imported copy of Retro Gamer, and BAM! an advert for the GB32!!!
check the link, damn the things been discontinued...but what ho! o frabjoyous day hallooo!! GP2x get out of my dreams and into my car.

arrived, took me about 3 hours to figure the damn thing out before i got quake working. had to loosen the joystick, im already considering the x-box mod.

went out and blew a lot of money on a 1 gig SD card, and its already almost totally filled with my huge rom collection.

i gotta say, as much as i want the GP2x's makers to be rolling in dough for creating such a wonderful tool, i hope these dont catch on, i want to always be different from all the GBA and PSP sheep out there when i whip out my GP2x and start playing some FF5 or some Duke3D

Hi All, Seems like a great community here. :) Got my GP2X a couple of days ago. OK- The stick aint great, but who cares! It works fine with C64 and Speccy games from my youth! (quite a long time ago now 'sniff' ) Looking forward to seeing what this baby is capable of over the next few months, it has some great support from some very talented programmers. I also have a PSP, sure they will both be able to get along. Got fed-up with Sonys attempts to stop us homebrewing, so PSP for commercial and GP2X for Homebrew. .

Great Service from GP2x.co.uk, Next day Special Delivery. If your interested. :p

well my gp2x came today. but the gp2x.co.uk 24 hour service wasn't great and it costs £4.99. It took mine 5 days to arrive and that was only after I complained via email.

also my disc don't work :(

other than that, I am happy :D

(PS do gp2x's come in white as well or not?)

Buy DaveC's stick. Just PM him. Its $10 in the USA, so maybe it will be a bit more. It really is a million times better then the original stick.

AGH! After waiting for a million minutes, Play-Asia finally shipped it! It's coming, but it's held up currently at the border. I'll be so happy if it gets here tomorrow.

i got mine today an hour after i finished work i was so tired and the box was so light i almost dropped it. shame i didnt get the tv output cable though as there"out of stock":(

Got mine. Crap joystick, immediately ordered DavC's cap. Putting the screen on is a pain due to the friggin dust on the LCD (why do we have to do this?). SD formatting issues using my digital camera (Sandisk 2GB doesn't work with GP2X, Kingston 256mb does). Should be solved when my card reader arrives. Scanlines and flickering aren't very nice but hopefully new firmware will sort this out.

Tried CloneKeen2X, DrMdx and Squidgesnes. What a crap joystick!!!!! Programs are good though. Once the new cap and my power adaptor arrive I'll really test this thing out.
