What Shall I Buy?

I think i'll go for mario. I *might* get a PSP when it comes out too, but only if it impresses me, the DS does because of possible "great little features". And it's dirt cheap.

1. Imagine two girls. Same personality, same habits - everyhting the same. Except one is a real looker and the other looks like a cow's backside. Now, you might have fun and enjoy the cow backside girl, but you'd much rather be with the stunner. You see.
Except they're not the same apart from the graphics. The PSP is just a GBA with updated graphics, the DS is something new.

2. The 3 hours thing is crap. You know it. 3:30 minutes on max settings for everything on a graphically intense game like RR. Much more with lower biightness and using headphones. 3:30 minutes minimum is enough for the average handheld gamer. Long plane rides, trips withthe family etc etc, then buy another battery (if you must play for 8 hours straight)
Straight from Gamespot's mouth:
The short answer is that it depends on what you're doing. The longer answer is that Sony has stated that the battery should last around six hours. With simpler-looking games, like Lumines or Mahjong Fight Club, that definitely seems to be the case. But with more graphically intensive games, like Ridge Racers, the battery doesn't last quite as long. Based on our estimates and a few battery-draining tests, Ridge Racers seems to last somewhere between 90 minutes and three hours.

The DS games might have some originality to them but this isnt always a plus. Look at the 'original feature' in RR - it's crap, you cant use it. What are these big guns? More Mario, Zelda, Metroid? Now, I love all of these games but using a little stick in them isnt original - it's awkward (especially on the move).
To name a few of the announced titles which look good to me, there's Pac Pix, Puppy Times, Animal Crossing, Metroid Prime Hunters, Cadaceous, Wario Ware Touched, Goldeneye, Yoshi's Touch n go, Kirby Touched, the princess peach game, Advance wars DS, and the new sidescrolling mario. The only game on PSP that looks remotely interesting to me is Mercury. Once it gets some more good games that aren't console ports, I'll probably get one too.

And snes rocks.

SNES!!!

I'll wait like a year before I get either one anyway(I'm still perfectly content with my GP). Alkthough I'm leaning a little towards the PSP right now.. Just imagine playing Viewtiful Joe on the move with that AMAZING SCREEN!!!! And the Metal Gear Solid game looks good too, and the mp3 playing feature even though my gp32_console can do that...

I've been meaning to get a GP32 for over a year now, but there's something invisible stoppoing me. I can't work out what it is, it just doesn't seem right buying one, even though i love the things.

hey dcware maybe some peer pressure will help..
ready...

i thikn the metal gear solid game looks pants. Its a card game not a normal mgs game :(. and gamespot must have somethign wrong with there battery cos today i was playing ridge racer at work and really we were doing nothingnat work so i was playing ridgeracers for hours.I even took my plug to charge it but never used it coz i didnt need to.

OMG I forgot all about ACDS, thats the main reason I got a DS, well that combined with Marks Dual-Scene and the E3 Eurogamer video pink recomended.

MrTwit: That goldeneye game coming out is not the N64 classic, it is EAs shitty game, which takes the goldeneye name and shits all over it.

That hasn't been officially confirmed, there's still hope. If it is, I'm 100% sure the original will come out sometime, since it alone would sell hundreds of thousands of DS's. Eventually Microsoft will let Rare make DS games, they are backing the DS rather than the PSP (well, primarily they're backing the Gizmondo, but that's not gonna take off)

I would put my money on it not being the classic, I think it is slated for PSP release too, although I'm pretty sure we will see Rare release games, they cannot release goldeneye as they don't have the James Bond liscence.

Man I wish they could though...

hey mr. twit I thought you said you didn't like the PSP because there just porting over PS2 games... But your fine with getting ports to the DS?

the whole argument that you shouldn't play games with decent graphics on a portable confuses me, surely if you like it then you'll enjoy it.

at the end of the day the likelihood is that the psp will sell more purely because it has the sony name behind it and joe bloggs loves his ps2.

i'm currently leaning towards the psp as it looks better for films, the graphics are better and i foresee more people having one and thus wifi gaming will be more likely. also the vids i've seen of tiger woods look awesome and i love that game!

Twit:

The 90 minute thing was an error. The battery life for an intensive game on max settings (like RR) IS 3h:30+. Proven and tested.

The only thing new on the DS is touch screen. I for one, do not like controlling games with a pen, it's what PDA people have been crying about for years.

Spray:

Tiger Woods is one of my favourite games too. Gutted it was put back on the PSP.

Well, I never said I wanted Goldeneye, I just said it'll happen. And I would rather play a port of an old game, which you won't have played for a long time, and which you are not likely to play at home on a console then a port of a new game which if you like it, you probably already have it on PS2, and play it at home, especially as new games will look much better on a nice big screen, wheras N64 games look better on a DS.

But that said I am not hoping for many ports on the DS, and I'm sure there won't be many past the obvious Mario/Zelda/Goldeneye ones to draw in cash, the whole idea of the DS is to give developers some new toys to play with and come up with new ideas.

What a fucking fanboy.

Anyway, I'd go for Feel the Magic if you don't know anyone else with a DS, if you do get a multiplayer game like Mario.

Well it seems that you are the real fanboi <_< A Nintendo fanboi. Me? I HAVE a DS, I don't have a PSP. BUT the PSP is like so much nicer. I hate playing games by holding that brick of a handheld with one hand and using the stylus with the other. It is just a bad idea in practice, very uncomfortable. Plus that postage stamp sized screen, meh. The DS and that touch screen is just going to be a breeding ground for bad ideas and gimmicks.

You realize the PSP is bigger than the DS, right? And practically the same weight?
And holding the DS with one hand is amazingly easy, the only time it becomes difficult is if you are using the D pad and stylus at the same time, which you never have to do in any game, and I wager never will. You use the thumb strap instead. And anyone who needs a screen that size has some seriously bad eyesight

man i hate indulging in petty things like this, but twit, you really seem to have zero back bone to your argument.

i believe the psp is marginally slimmer (eg from top of screen to bottom) and the same size across. however, open up the DS and its a different story, the thing doubles in size.

anyone who wants a screen of that size and clarity clearly enjoys not having to compromise on viewing quality when watching films or playing games.

now mr twit i have both the ds and the psp( actually 2 of each) The psp is smaller and lighter. I find it hard to use the l button on both but on the ds its the hardest. I dont know why.

It's because its square, I have hugh hands and sometimes it can hurt the hell out of them.

DaveC: I plan on buying both systems, but it seems you just like to have a go at the DS everytime it is mentioned. Hmmm...
