Tests, tests, and more tests.

A solar panel the size of a Pandora will be a slow charge, there must be sun and you don't want the Pandora to be too hot. A separate charger is a good idea, still I like the idea that a Pyra could be self sufficient.

I've got a small solar panel about the size of the Pandora (although some of that is buttons and lights, so the actual panel area is somewhat smaller, about the size of a DS-lite). Even on a clear day in midsummer I've never got its 18.5mW battery past 50% charged, although I suspect the voltage multiplier might be increasingly inefficient as the battery voltage increases (and so it will actually discharge on a dull day), so these days I try to take the charge off the device every night if I remember.

Its performance has been slightly disappointing, and I haven't actually got anything off it into a usable battery in the past month or so (I'm currently charging a different battery pack, and seeing if I can get that past 50%). It certainly wouldn't be capable of keeping something like a Pandora or a Pyra fully charged even in good weather I suspect.

If I understand that kernel mailinglist correctly, EvilDragon has some problems booting the units he just built so he can't test them.

Not very encouraging... :-/

No, he IS testing them.
But there are crashes and he can't explain why they crash.
He's constantly writing his test results and summaries in the mailing list and asking the experts what to do next.

Yep, tests are running, but the 4GB RAM units are still freezing for unknown reason, yet they survived a memtest by both notaz and tmlind for a couple of hours without any crash... so what's the difference here?

I'm a bit devastated at the moment, as you can iimagine this is quite a shock.
I can't sleep well but will continue working on that. Remember the 1,5GHz issue? It crashed all the time and then some small fix made it run stabe, even on old boards? I'm hoping we find something like that here as well.
After all, the simulation says we're both within the OMAP and the DRAM specs, so the hardware SHOULD be fine.

Worst case would be to switch to 2GB RAM, but that would be a loss of around 80k EUR... I really hope that's not necessary, as I don't have unlimited funds. But it would be an option for the first CPU board...

Who said 4GB RAM would be a good idea and why the heck did I agree to that?

Oh well, what has happened has happened and I can only move forward and try to solve thiings.

I'm sorry that this is not what you would've liked to hear here (believe me, I'm feeling worse than you), but I'm sticking to my promise that you the journey will be an honest one - no lies, no hidings.

Here's hoping you feel with me and continue to support me instead of getting angry.

Well, back to work. Let's all hope for the magical fix we had for the 1.5GHz issue and the TILER rotation.

True, but it doesn't help if I don't sleep well because of that annoying issue.

BTW: If anyone wants to follow the details and what's going on, you can do so here:

Been following it, it's a gripping story. Thanks for updating here as well. I hope someone will have an "aha erlebnis" and figure it out. On the other side the memtests running ok in U-boot environment should point to software issues. Sadly I can't help I know a bit of programming but nothing that could pinpoint a bug here without using a unit (and even then I would doubt I'll be of help)... Hope pace gets picked up, it seems the kernel development is very undermanned and needs some specialists in some area's.

Thats also the reason Ive opened the pyra team needs help topic in the general section to make any silent expert aware of the problems.

Stick in there, and do try to get some sleep... if there is nothing you can do. We dont need a broken dragon here...

One thing that might be silly but an option, do you have an option to turn off the LCD or even maybe unplug it ... based on

I just checked, and my uevm has been running the 4.18.4-letux-pyra
kernel for 8 days 19+ hours now. That's under pretty much no load
however, and without a monitor connected.

and the TILER issues, TILER writes to RAM isn't it...

Or was it all done without a monitor/lcd

Can you explain how going to 2GB RAM would incur a loss of 80K Euro. For example, does that mean you had bought 5000 4GB RAM chips at 16Euro each or something?

Not angry at all Ed, just disappointed, as you are I can imagine.
And the pressure that's on your shoulders I can hardly imagine but I stepped in this boat with you and will sail with you until we reach the other side!

Unfortunately I can not help in any way so I'll just beam over some mental support instead ;)

If this problem cannot be solved easily and the money gets tight, maybe we could set up a community donation?

Then you could get the funds to either compensate the 80k loss or to hire a company to get the RAM working.

But thanks a lot for the quick update ED, even if it is not a good one!

couldn't say it better.

biiiiiiig mental support from me too! we will stay this through together!, right? rrright!!
so drink a cup of calming and refreshing green/black tea and eat some sweets, then go from there...
we will shake this dreaded-4g-bug out and finally make it!!! :)

I appreciate the heads up and news even if it isn't good.

Let this be a lesson to all on scope creep. 4GB has been a pain in the ass the entire time, while 2GB was working from the start.

I know you are doing all you can and will continue to do so. I'm not quite ready to leave the party yet either...just lamenting the 4GB horrible loss of time.

And when whe „4gb“ Peaple decide to take a 2gb Board for the Price of the 4gb so you have time to fix the 4gb until there are enough funds from the Pyra sells to hire someone who can fix the 4gb ??

When I think about my Pyra needs, than mybe i would be also fine whit a normal 2gb Pyra

I want a Device like my CC First Batch Pandora, but whit a bit more power and a better Case..
