Some GamesCom Retro-Area pictures

You can expect full speed 3DO emulation :D

Apart from that:

- full speed PSP,

- full speed Dreamcast

- full speed DS (without frameskip)

- full speed N64 (it's not really the case on Pandora yet)

- full speed PSX emulation with increased resolution + filters

- Probably decent speed for Windows games (Diablo II and stuff like that) running in Qemu

That's already a lot :)
I'm sure our coding gurus and the Pyra itself can do this.

I'm more hoping of easier to use Emulators, not dozends of different plugins/settings for each game for example. Finding the best config is so annoying imho (N64 emulation onto the Pandora for example). And some Emulators may run full speed but cause nasty graphic bugs sometimes (N64 again like Godleneye for example was the last one I tested, Perfect Dark and Conker are also "sensitive" candidates).

Overall, "simple to use" emulators are desired. :) maybe pre-configs that auto-tune each game if needed could be used or something like that. Little things like that would greatly improve the usability.

I don't want to divert too much this thread, but you know you already have "per roms" configs with current muppen64plusv2.1. So you can automaticaly have GoldenEyes running with Rice1.1, MarioKart with Rice2 and Zelda with Glide.

True, I use per Rom Configs of course but first I have to set each game, find the best plugin and configs to work and why does each game need different settings when each is based on the same original hardware config? Was the N64 that wide spreaded when it came to methods to run a game on it?I'm still in search for the best Lylat Wars settings for example, since years, didn't found them yet, something always bugs. :D

I don't want to complain, PSX Emulation seems to be much easier to config and older consoles even more of course. Not sure what makes N64 so different.

So does your desktop/laptop PC emulators have all the same interfaces and such? The Pandora/Pyra is essentially the same environment.. The best case situation developer/porters can get together and try to normalize them as best as possible.. but there are always some that don't follow conventions and such.. it's the nature of the beast.

How about Ed puts together a donation pot, similar to the pandora donation fund, to raise some money toward PS2 emulation?  So talented devs like notaz, exophase, linuxbochs, ptitSeb, sebt3, and whomever I forgot and don't know, etc. can have a cup of coffee to motivate them to look at this possibility.  Of course, no pressure on them whatsoever.  It's like I called the pool guys to come and take a look at the leak in my pool.  Before even looking at it, they charge an automatic $300 bucks for service call :)  If they can detect the leak, fine, if they can't, also fine.  If the problem is not looked at, it will not be possibly solved. :)

You could have a program to detect the type of game-file you have, so it can automatically start the correct emulator. If you don't have the applicable emulator it could point you to the correct one. You could share your emulator configuration on the forum so everyone can use them. PS2 emulator on Pyra would be awesome :)

No clue, I don't play Emulators onto my PC anymore. ^^"

Not even sure what happend with the original "Dev Fund" started by Craig.

Something like that, yes. An per-game-config-database where users can share the perfect settings for each game, maybe with optional auto-download in the emulators if wished. :) I guess it will not be easy because every Emulator uses different config methods but maybe in the future there is some kind of rom-config-format that is supported by various Emulators? ^^"

How many times we've got surprised by the devs? I remeber the time, when nobody believed that a NDS Emulator would ever work. Then Drastic came out. (Yay!) The community also cried for real Minecraft on the Pandora, also there nobody believed it would work, but see what we've got now :D Maybe there would be a lot to do to create such an emulator, but I believe it would work (soon) :)
I expected Drastic (well knowing exophase was working on something he didnt wanted to tell what helped here :D )But a playable PSX2 emulator will requiere way more work than you can imagine. (I'm not telling it wont happen, just dont keep your expectation high here)

It's not so that I'm expecting a working emulator in the near future. I just hope it will happen, like Drastic and Minecraft happened ;)

What about Saturn emulation? Will it be feasible with the horsepower of the Pyra? It's a pitty it never worked out in Pandora

No love for Sega Saturn anyone
I'm no expert but this would be a tough one to pull off at playable speeds. This is based purely on my limited experience of trying a Saturn Emulator with a Quad Core 3.0Ghz Windows desktop a few years ago. Saying that, I'd have called anyone who thought we could get playable NDS on a CC Pandora a fool until seeing it for myself. :)

t's a bit slow on Pandora, but with a faster CPU it probably wouldn't be too bad...

btw, as of now, I think bro Ekianjo and bro Traylorpark, will need to design Pyra box art for Japanese and Asian consumer :D

As they did with the OpenPandora, truly magnificent work of art

also, bro Ekianjo and Traylorpark and Crow_Riot, are you guys planning to port Paper Wars to Pyra?

So the Pyra will probably give us the possibility to play Saturn, Dreamcast. Full speed Nintendo64, PSP. Who knows some 3DS, Gamecube, maybe even some PS2 action in the future?

I don't think so since Dolphin (GC emu) for Android is not full speed even on Tegra K1.
Yet.  Also, different hardware and OS, which really can't be compared, especially with optimization for the Pyra.

Don't underestimate this community.

Wasn't DS emulation on Android terrible until Drastic was made?

True, we might also have to hold off on Gamecube emulation until we have a SoC chip that can support OpenGL 3.0 or whatever, which I believe the Omap5 doesn't have?

Ekianjo isn't involved in Paper Wars, Just Traylorpark and Crow_Riot

As far as I recall, DS emulators didn't have ARM recompilers before DraStic, they were all interpreted which is painfully slow. Exophase wrote an ARM recompiler which gave the initial huge boost to speed, and then it was tweaks and cleverness form then on to improve performance further, little by little.Dolphin, on the other hand, does have an ARM recompiler, there's no sudden burst of speed to be gained: it's already into the "tweaks and cleverness" which usually only gives little bits of speed boost here and there.

The two emulators are in different situations, what happened with DraStic won't happen with Dolphin. That's not to say there isn't room for improvement in Dolphin, it'll just be slow going, shaving percentages of CPU usage.
