Product Pictures?

Righto' book marked that, nice to see theres alot of thought going into software from the comunity.
I am still a little bummed out by all this though, Im thinking my prediction for a late March launch was too optimistic :(

and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again...

Seriously - I'll be surprised if anybody sees a finished product before june/july (if ever) - thats why I (and many others) cancelled my order.

The only problem with that is its been likely that we'll see a finished Pandora in the next couple of months since september :(

I agree, that it is a little sad, but the explanation ED posted at least gives an explanation for the recent delay. I hope they can work the case finally out now. *me still keeping fingers crossed*

Since AUGUST actualy. ;) Well, I remember that the dev team wanted to show us a nice and polished CNC Prototype Case in August...it's been a long time since then I know... -_-
Now, ED mentioned, that the Battery manufacturer changes the Design of the Accu so the Dev team has to wait again until they have the new prototype Battery and after this they can adjust the Case...
I only wonder why the Battery isn't finished since half a year, AFAIK there wasn't a delay for producing the Pandora Battery (I mean OUR Pandora's battery  )
Sounds like if the Pandora had a Oktober release, we wouldn't have a fitting Battery for our Handheld....a little bit strange. Maybe the global Bank/Finance Problems strikes again, this thime for Battery Companies?

Aeh ! You joined the 7th of November ? Did you place your order before you joined the forum ?
And from where do you know that so many cancelled their orders ?

I don't think it's that many.

But anyway everybody who cancels, leaves one P to order for somebody who trusts more into the devs.

(Yes call me fanboyish :) ) I love to wait, even if it will be march or may. I will get my Pandora.

At work I've dealt with software projects that involve many companies, and believe me when I say this - creating final 'release date' is a pure science-fiction when you're dependent on 3 parties.
In case of Pandora - when there is multitude of parts each delivered by different entity (shop/producer)... well fixing date is next to impossible.
And in case of software - we just create product with non-critical known issues, put it into 'readme' and ship to the consumers. After all - they all have their schedules...
But we do it like this because we can fix those issues in next builds/patches.
Pandora like all HW is different - if they ship it with some serious hardware bug (like overheating battery, easy-to-stuck keys or easy-to-break hinge for example) - there will be serious, and hard to fix consequences for us all.
So let's give them time to make the best HW console out there and skip the skepticism.

If you don't see potential in videos they shared with us (damn, AbiWord works faster on Pandora than on my not-to-old laptop [Toshiba M60]) - well, your loss.
If you see it - remember - the hard part is done - HW works, and works great. The only things left are the most mundane - keyboard, case, and so on... And speaking from experience - those mundane stuff take the longest (and irritate the most).
B)

I have no problem with waiting, I've got a place in line, money in the bank and a GP2x to play around with until they get it sorted.
But its getting a bit annoying to have nothing concrete to fall back on, or to show the growing number of people who think I've just been suckered into a huge scam (The increasing insistance on payment by bank transfer really isn't helping this either), video footage of stuff displayed through an LCD screen wont convince any skeptics.

I seriously wouldn't have a problem at all, execept we WERE told that we would see a finished Pandora.
When that date came and went we WERE told that it was just a bit of a delay, everything was completed, we were just waiting on the key pad.
And now that dates come and gone we find out that they have the keypad but don't have the case, or the batteries either (Why isn't that mentioned in the stickied update?!?!?!)
I honestly think that I would have been considering canceling my order and asking for a refund at this point had they not already refunded all the cash...

I don't see why the choice has to be absolute blind faith in the project, or opting out.

The Pandora has huge potential, I've only had my GP2x a couple of weeks, but its obvious how little things like an on board USB host, a sensible battery life etc etc would massivly increase the usability of such a device.
But none of that helps us now :D

I dont think even a finished version will calm somepeople down until it's actually in their hands and powered on. There's no way to please everyone until they finaly start shipping.

+1 to Maciek for his rational classification
+1 to maxSteiner for demanding straight talking

I hear you. But reality is - production of Pandora is co-founded by its buyers. We have recession. If because of contractor delays Pandora team get into financial troubles... IMHO They're trying to play safe and get money for creating all Pandoras...

I feel that giving us deadline was initial fault of Pandora team. Errors of youth. Next time they will add some safe amount of time by default and when something goes wrong (like it always does) - they'll be safe. And if by some unbelievable chance everything goes according to plan - customers will be able to buy next batch earlier - so everybody will be happy.
In most projects I was working on - the closer to release date - the more critical issues were surfacing. It seems that's the nature of the beast. But telling every single (even major) problem to customer would give him (multiple) heart attack. Only issues that result in project being delayed are relayed to customer.
So in another words: I'm convinced that Pandora team has dealt with countless fatal/critical problems, but there's no reason to stress us with them. They're solved. We are informed only when something that might delay shipping date occurs.

I'm not suggesting that. In fact - I'm against any form of blind faith. I'm merely suggesting to keep dark thoughts at bay and to stay positive (and patient).

It helps us, because we know that it's worth to wait. B)

Blind faith implies faith despite lack of evidence, whereas we can follow the developments in occasional dev updates and check any released images/vids for inconsistencies.

There's discernible progess. It might not be as speedy as we had hoped, but I'm quite certain - based on available evidence - that there's a group of young men out there who are working on bringing us our toys a.s.a.p.

Is there a way we can hear from Craigx to know if some of these are made or in the process of being made, or none made at all... and why?

If there was at least one finished, I think that everyone would agree, a picture or video of some non-digital-rendered "finished" product really would calm a lot of folks down.

Edit - I know the topic is misleading and I didn't mean for it to be. Can I have a mod change the title of the topic?
Is there a way we can know that your not an absolute tard for posting this? read the damn Pandora Information Index before you post shit like this that has been asked an infinite number of time.

it's getting harder and harder to be satisfied by the day when everything is ALWAYS 'expected soon'

In slightly better news it's possible we might be able to ship some units reasonably soon to those of you who are more the hacker type, these units may come without a battery and with a beta OS installed, the battery could be sent on at a later date at the postage cost.

The case was always going to be one of the last parts. Craig did suggest that the batteries would not be available at the same time as everything else.

The communication on this project has never been up to the expectations of some. That is in part due to their openness; normally you would get very little information pre-release. It is due in part to craigix posting enigmatic (fun) posts; in part due to this being the first hardware project they have undertaken; in part due to constant pressure from the boards to commit to things and keep the information following, even when they might not want to; in part due to forums not being the ideal medium.

Whatever, it is what it is. We either stay on the bus and enjoy the ride or get off at the next stop. No doubt there will always be some that insist on staying for the whole journey and moaning the whole way.

And for those that want the news served up, please try the unofficial blog.

Why do some people even bother trying to be a part of this community - I'm a longtime lurker, followed Pandora since the beginning but never wanted to participate in these discussions. It's quite pathetic that mainstream console fanboys cast doubt on the efforts of few.

Just my 2 cents here, but if you don't understand what makes Pandora unique, or you simply can't wait for it, then it isn't for you. If the trousers don't fit tubby, buy a different pair.

I have faith that Craig & Co will honour what they have set out to do, but you know, afaik this is the first time this team has tried doing anything like this - cut them some slack! If this was Pandora 2 then yeah, you could say that they should know better etc etc. All they've tried to do is please you, and a few philistines turn the milk sour with threats about not reordering, disabled sons, Craig & co being con-artists etc.

Grow up. Seriously.

I know there are MANY lurkers in these forums that simply do not participate due to you people. Go back to Vista.

How do you know the people concerned with the repeated missed schedules are 'mainstream' fanboys? maybe they are opensource converts who are concerned that they keep being told things which are then not delivered?

So what makes it unique is it the delays? missed deadlines? broken promises? bank issues etc? I thought it was the fact that a company were selling an open source piece of hardware with great specs and a fantastic support community?

I too think they will get Pandora out there, however the poor communication from people who DO have experience in running succesful businesses is poor, as is the fact that whether intentional or not they do come across as 'blagging' sometimes. eg "the finished mock up will be ready in a couple of weeks we are just waiting on the keypad" well no thats just not true was it! they also must have been waiting on the battery as we now find out hidden in some thread.

hmm maybe you should take a look at yourself, people are allowed to have an opinion and to voice that opinion just as much as you are

WOW thats damn impressive! I mean how could you possibly know that? have you gone round random peoples houses and checked their browsing histories? amazing.

stustaff, opinions are one thing, being a prick is another. That's the typical response isn't it? Sarcastic remarks towards anyone that upsets the status quo. At the end of the day, it's a piece of hardware - broken promises/deadlines etc - who cares? It's a product. Get on with life.

I seriously feel for someone pathetic enough to quote individual segments of a post with 'witty' retorts beneath each one. Do you seriously have that little going on in life that you have enough time to do this? Jesus...

Craig & co will deliver, then the petulant children will finally stop crying.
