Pandora Basics - Running Mame On A Dev Setup

So, uhh. I'm not fantastic with Linux, it's my second system, not my first. So, do I have to launch every emu via the console?

I think you won't have to worry about the console much at all with the Pandora distro running when everything is finally released; I've seen plenty of shots of the graphical menus in action for loading games. I think Craig is mainly trying to give an idea of how to interface with the Pandora from a hardware perspective, which is something a lot of the more Linux-savvy of us will want to know. I know where you're coming from - I've been a long-term Windows user, and even though I jumped to various linux distros more than a year ago now, I'm still pretty hit-and-miss with the console and text commands. Jumping to Arch Linux from Ubuntu has been...interesting, to say the least. :p

You can't get decent ginger beer in the US, really. Not around here, at least. I tried making some... we'll see how it turns out.

oh I remember I got that stuff when I went to london when I was 9 it was horrible (especially if you expect to get cola :p )

That's not just any old ginger beer that's the really quite expensive Fentimans ginger beer if I'm not mistaken. In the proper old fashioned thick glass bottle, If I remember correctly the label bangs on about the bloke who makes it and his pet dog :-S all a bit weird.

Anyway thanks for the good quality vid. Can we see a bit more with games being played (I liked the Street fighter special move idea somebody else mentioned)

@Froboman

fear not, this is hardcore geek porn for Linux enthusiasts, Craigs just running MAME on a bare (minimal) system to show how you can talk to Pandora via serial and remote-load/run software on it, Pandora has a full GUI with wizards/installers/windows/icons/menus/pointers/wallpaper and folders, you don`t need ANY cli knowledge (but you will be able to play around with the system and run/compile early developer stuff if you DO know some command line)

the device you get will be as usable out of the box as ....say...a netbook like the Acer aspire 1, or a high end phone (but better web support than most phones or netbooks have and more software)
