Opensnes

Hi, reesy I have a request, could you implement JMA support in your wonderful reworking of this emulator? Compressed with JMA, snes roms takes hell lot less space than with zip!

Also, an other questions for all the snes geeks down here: Is it possible to convert a Snes9x Savestate to work with Opensnes (and vice versa)? I'm asking that because when I'm at my house I play Super Mario world and other games on my xbox but when I travel I use my beauty baby GP32!!! So it could be nice to play the same game on both consoles! Thanks!

Hmm I didn't see this mentioned but every time I start it up I get this error on the "loading intro" screen:

"Error dat file not found in gp:\gpmm\os9xgp.dat"

After I press the B button I get a mess of colored bars, pressing it again gives me the file menu.

@psyko_chewbacca: I won't be adding support for JMA, what ever it is. I'm *hopefully* going to add pocketSPC sound core and thats it for me and OpenSnes. I have to say working on ports on not the most rewarding of tasks but at least now I can play Utopia with clean sound. The source code will be available so if you want JMA support you can add it yourself :)

@Alpha2: Yeah not too sure what creates this file. I don't remember installing this file when I first installed the original OpenSnes. On another smc I don't have the original OpenSnes and I get the same error but on another smc with OpenSnes installed it works fine.

Well, actually... emus bring/brought the most fame to coders here and this will stay the same with the gp2x. nobody remembers the guys behind the great puzzle games or gfx libs made for gp32. when you come up with your own work here some day, do not expect the same response like you got with OpenSNES.... Nevertheless, great work....

Not entirely sure that's completely true... Mr_Spiv has never made an emu, and we all know his name for his otherwise brilliant cretions... Similarly, is Squidge remembered for his emus at the moment? No, for Beats of Rage and GPDrive. Granted I can't remember the name of the guy who made Electronia (darn good game) but I certainly remember him fondly. And of course, what about the esteemed mr_mirko and his wonderful SDK that makes coding so simple for those of us who can't? Or Nazca and those stunning Fenix achievements of his that show how the language can really be pushed properly?

I think its fair to say that you're more likely to be remembered for a good emu than a good game, but certainly not true to say we don't remember them. Unless I'm an exception to the rule, of course...

Reesy,

Please, please fix the BLU+ code before your finish with this.

What you have done sounds great (pun intended ) but I would like to see what everyone else is talking about. (also punny)

:D

Many thanks, much kudos to you

just tried mario world with sound, but the sound goes off after loading an old save state.
this is kind of strange, because the sound menu option is still turned on.

anyway, great to see you working on this emulator! good luck.

Great work, Reesy. We really appreciate your passion for perfect emulation ;) . Never seen Super Mario running so smooth on GP32. :)
Keep it up.

Being that I bought this system with the Snes tops on my list, may I be one of the pack to applaud you and encourage you to PLEASE continue this Reesy! My BLU+ will be dying for the best Snes emu.......

It`s sad to hear you won`t do any other work than implementing that sound core :( I was so full of hope you will maybe improve more thinks to make snes on the gp32 much faster :(

But, anyways great work, still, I don`t want to try this out yet as it hasn`t the BLU+ fix.

I think the point is that sound was one of the things slowing down OpenSnes the most.
I bet if he sees any quick fixes that can be done to the rest of the Emu, he will do them.

so since the gp32 is lacking some buttons, anyone got any good games that will fit the gp32 nicely? :)

ill try the new version now, but its kinda annoying missing 2 buttons or using weirdo button configs etc etc.

anyways, keep it up reesy :)

I have not yet tested this version because I am using a BLU+, but this seems like a good improvement.

Anyway, I was wondering if the emu got faster with just a "quick fix" on the sound routines, it will go a lot faster whith the new SPC core, right.

Can we be talking full speed @166Mhz and FS=1? Or am I just dreaming.

Nevertheless, thanks for your great work Reesy!

Aww man, I thought this was our chance for near perfect SNES on the GP32 :( SNES seems to be cursed. Oh well so close. Thanks for improving it, though any improvement is appreciated.

Thanks Reesy :)

Strange, with this version the saves work again..

But the sound is much clearer now, definitly a nice improvement.

And with the new sound core, SNES on the GP32 will be great... no real need to improve it any further :)

Edit: is it possible that there isn't a framelimiter?

Gods for example seems to run a bit to fast, and the fps don't seem to be limited once they hit 60/50 fps, but they go even further up.

First of all thanks for your work!!

SMW is running nearly perfect with sound @ 180Mhz

Now like Quiest said

Because there is so much to do on this emu like a good transparenct hacking. (very hard to play chrono trigger for exemple).

And it's there is only some few people able of that, and i think you are one of them.

At least thank you for all what you have already done.

Bye

Herc.

Ps: I found a great web site www.Isketch.net
Which is a web site where you can play a pictionary like.I suggest all GP user start their nickname with "GP"

I`d say dreaming, cause SNES isn`t fullspeed on my psp with 333Mhz and FS=1...
