Nubs: 100% Success! (2010 - 11 - 21)

Look I dont know if you understand how people are feeling about this handheld, I mean from putting in an order for a product and not receiving still almost two years later is kinda hard on the people that stand behind this project. Now as the way things are made the pandora is out dated and handhelds and cellphones are offering comparable and better specs than the pandora and getting out to the people on time. LOL!! I know that you probably taken offense on what I said but I dont care because I am waiting on my pandora as well. But I mean come on you really dont understand what the people on this forum is complaining about.....you are really BLIND!! That is my words of wisdom. FYI, I think that the Pandora is always looking for someone to blame because they cant deliver like that said they would. Now I am going to wait for my pandora because I know that about December of 2011 I will be receiving my Pandora and I am in Batch 1. LOL!!!
So you want broken nubs?

Where is there a phone with REAL gaming controls? LOL

I don't know why people complain, like OPT has full control? What part of Texas has the ball don't you understand? If I'm so blind, then why does my Pandora screen look so sweet? LOL

Right? I mean, this person isn't happy! Take a break from the boards or cancel your order. Thanks

Come back in a month.

Hey everyone, what's all this talk of me double or quadruple posting? Was it that long post I had in 2 different locations? I realized that I posted in the wrong location, so I placed it elsewhere.

I'm not negative at all, actually. :p I was asking valid questions regarding what the actual hurdles were, is all. I haven't waited an actual 2+ years like many of you, but have been following the project since its inception in 2008. It has taken me that long to save up bit by bit, and I was relieved when I finally had the money to order. I have also drummed up interest in the Pandora, although, like some of the ACTUAL naysayers here, people have asked me why I don't just buy an iPhone or a gaming console. I say to those people that they don't understand what the Pandora can actually do. I know, I do NOT have any current-gen consoles or handhelds, but I HAVE put my full faith into this project. I believe that Pandoras will be shipped soon now that many of the problems such as broken nubs and faulty Wi-Fi have subsided. Being an avid original Playstation gamer (I have been playing FF6 via my Final Fantasy Anthology disc, slowly but surely due to projects I am working on), I'm glad to see that a Playstation emulator is available.

I haven't been able to get a Playstation emulator to work on a PC. I have BIOS files, sound and graphics plugins and such, but error messages still crop up. It mentions that a CDR plugin is missing, but I've tried different plugins in the directory but it doesn't go away. Does anyone have a link to a complete emulator with the bios, plugins, and such already set up? I have plenty of PS discs, so games are not a problem, I just wondered what it would feel like to play them on a PC.

All told, I am sorry if I had caused a ruckus on these boards, and let our lives be filled with Liberty and Pandoras for all! (a little nudge towards the Pledge of Allegiance)

PS: What does the TV-Out Cable and the interior of the carrying case look like? Is the cable proprietary or USB? I have a case and cable ordered so I thought someone might whet my whistle a bit. ED's videos are excellent, by the way.

I'm holding out because the Pandora is open, I can install whatever I want on it without fear of some stupid updated that disables everything I use on it. This is the ONLY open handheld in this power class, the ONLY one. Nintendo is locked down, Sony is locked down, Apple is locked down, every single freaking Android device is locked down.

A lot of people here are not freaking out even though it is 2 years late because of this. If it wasn't for this I think everyone would have canceled by now and bought whatever was popular when they canceled. There are not many options when you want open. I WISH that other companies would come here and read these forums and look how we're hanging on and realize that there is a HUGE market for open devices like this. Right now everyone releases devices and tries to make it impossible to install another OS or program for it yet here we are paying over 400 for a tiny device that won't play the latest games and we are doing it because it is open. Companies can say what they want about emulation but I know I'm not buying it solely for emulation, I plan to use it as a regular Linux computer more than for playing games. Why can't Dell or any other company see this? Why do they always have to lock us into Microsoft, Google, or there own variants of those? Why can't Dell make something like the Pandora, basically what they do with their PCs but handheld size? WHY?

This is why I'm holding out until I get mine or there is no hope of getting my money back, it is well worth the gamble to me.

EDIT: I for one would never hold out for a device like this if it wasn't open. I like makezine.com's philosophy is, if you can't open it you don't own it. I like to go one step further, if can't wipe whatever OS comes on it and the specs are not public allowing you to write your own OS/port a different OS to it freely then you don't own it. If consumers don't stand up right now and demand this then all we'll ever get is devices that are locked down and since we can't control the media/data on them we won't own our media/data.

No one seems to answer questions concerning cases. Maybe they don't know. But I expect delays (or at least increased cost) if they haven't been put on a boat yet.

As far as expectations go, I don't expect mine before the end of the year. I won't put money behind it, but I would do something silly if mine does arrive before New Year's Day. By the way, I took the third of my CPA exams yesterday and the review program for the fourth hasn't come yet. So I expect to work on my game quite a bit this weekend, especially because I forgot my sign language book.

Hmm, good point if true - have we really not had confirmation that Fatih has a tracking number/boat number/what have you to prove that something at least is in transit?

Ah, sorry, haven't noticed the question yet.

I asked Fatih, as he is the one handling all this.

Just shortly before the cases should be taken on board, we started looking for a second board company in case the current one don't do their work properly.

As the new company is in Taiwan and also offers assembly of the units, he didn't ship the cases, as we weren't sure whether we'll assemble all of the units in UK or parts already in Taiwan to speed things up.

I didn't know this and as Fatih doesn't read the boards here too often (you barely can see him posting), there was a wrong information, sorry about that.

I also thought they are on their way :)

So currently, their still boxed in China. The company in Taiwan is still working on setting everything up properly, and I might already assembly my units there (still thinking about that), even if the boards are being produced in Texas currently.

That should speed things up a bit :)

And if I don't do that: 2000 cases are in UK, shipping the rest there via plane takes about the same time it takes to ship the last 1000 boards from Texas, so no big deal here.

I have to say I'm a little concerned about this, especially given the case for my unit is most likely still in China. Changing production to this Taiwanese company midway through a batch is perhaps a bad idea given the lack of continuity. For example, are we sure they'll follow your QA procedures correctly? Are we sure on their capacity?

All I'm saying is that I wouldn't want to be changing elements in the formula, at such a crucial point.

I'm sure it'll work out though.

^ No it isn't. They've been talking about an alternative board company for at least a few weeks, as far as I'm aware. :p (Ergo, this new company won't be trying any case finishing, because they're not making cases.)

I thought the new company was in the UK that was the alternative board company.

^ I've got to admit, I'm not sure what the case is. I don't recall a location being mentioned before, but I may well have missed it.
