No features that has been announced have been removed. You can do all that we told you from the very beginning.
You can use install it from the Angström Repos if you want (you have about 200MB free on the NAND to install whatever you want).
However, of course FireFox won't run as fast as a mini-browser. Once you load it up it works fine, but loading does take about 20 seconds... yep, FireFox is bloated.
I don't even use it on my desktop machine as I hate the long startup time.
I click on Midori or Arora on my Linux box and it's ready to surf in one second whereas FireFox needs 10 seconds to load.
On the Pandora, Arora loads up in about 5 - 6 seconds and browses without any rendering or speed issues.
Doesn't prevent you from using FireFox, but I guess most users would prefer a browser that doesn't need to much RAM and starts way faster
Installing FireFox is easy though, just type sudo opkg install firefox when online.
I'm increasingly concerned about the project. They've managed to have so many problems (carefully avoiding any hint of blame) - that I wonder why on EARTH should I expect problems with this device to cease once they've put it in a cardboard box?
Well, then you shouldn't buy any device. Nearly every production process has the same problems, they just don't become public.
Sometimes they even ship it with those flaws.
Check for WiFi issues on the iPad... seems to work worse than our WiFi.
The BeagleBoard had trouble with the USB port, the Touchbook couldn't even charge properly.
The difference is: We don't HIDE stuff like that that appear during production, we tell you what's wrong and try to fix it.
My last mobile phone crashes about twice a week until I updated the firmware, my Cable TV receiver did crash when I tried to move the channels around...
So if you're concerned about stuff like that, you should probably never buy a device that hasn't been out for a few years already.

May I ask, please - are all of the first batch going to have this resistor bodge that gets us speed like 500kB/s? How about the second batch? Is this "500kB/s" now considered to be "full speed" for the Pandora? Is there any danger that the speed is seemingly quite low due to another (or the same?) hardware issue?
It won't get lower, it will probably increase as there are software things that can be done now. The signal the module gets is now fully within the specs, so it should be possible squeezing out more of it.
A lot of other mobile devices we tested didn't reach much higher speeds - most of them maxed at about 750KB/s.
Did you ever do a speedtest how fast your mobile phone can go with WiFi?
Don't forget that this saved OpenPandora a pile of cash, as the Chinese PCB manufacturer was LOADS cheaper than the USA company that did the prototyping (the same reasoning behind using the Chinbese case manufacturer that they settled on - because they were unbelievably cheaper than everyone else).
Well, the whole project still did cost A LOT more than the money we got from your preorders.
Please donate us a few hundred thousand USD to NOT produce some stuff in China, and we're happy.
OpenPandora - we won't be making cheap Chinese rubbish - we'll manufacture in America! (unless it's cheaper elsewhere).
And we still do. Manufacturing is the process of putting all things together.
The boards are still populated in America (since that's the most important and accurate thing, if we did that in China, 50% of the boards would probably have problems).
And the assembly is done in UK.
Try to find a device where NOTHING is from China these days... neither the board, any resistors, transistors, chips, parts, etc.

As you mentioned the PSP above: AFAIK most of the PSP stuff comes from China. At least for the first units.
