How Many Units Have They Sold?

i am wondering how they are doing in comparison to gizmondo. Anybody know the facts?

I think it's pretty much safe to say that the Gizmondo is out of the race. If you're not Nintendo, Sony, or a big corporation that has money to throw around and you release a handheld that isn't opensource/doesn't do home-brew, you're dead.

Thanx,
Stan

Wow, wow, wow.

I thought 3,000 might be a good guess because I've heard the first 500 shipped for korean and 3,000 for international.

That's very good.
They should sell more. People should notice open-source / open-architecture can survive even in the one of the most competive market, handheld video consoles.

I just worried there are so many moanings in korean forum. It seems their expectations are too high (or they are too impatient)

Truly the gp2x rocks! My boss is even considering selling the units up at work. (I work for a computer shop) :D

Great my gp2x won't boot after the firmware upgrade.... well I'll keep that a secret till I get another unit... GBAX will replace my unit if I followed the instructions that are laid out on gp2x.com right?

I don't know and it doesn't matter to me. Who cares even if the giz sells 100X as many, it really doesn't change anything. The PSP or DS sell tons more than the gix and GP2X combined. All that matters to me is that they sell enough GP2Xs to stay in business.

Agreed. For 3 men company, 8000 is damn impressive. I don't know if they can handle more than that without hiring more people.

only 3 men company? wow good for them and they did alot consider their low man power.

but I am worried on the support and available of customer service with only 3 people upholding a entire company.

I could be wrong

More people = more coders = more fun stuff for the rest of us non devs.

Don't be. It's simple:

Hardware fault: Return to vendor

Any other query: Consult forums :)

That's par for the course with free software computing!

According to this thread, that would be 26.6% of the total number of sales of the GP32, and (including preorders) this has only been on sale for a few months .

Of course, that could mean that less than 8000 people were satisfied with their GP32's, which is why they haven't all gone out and bought the GP2X.

Or even that the remaining 22000 or so were *so* satisfied that they considered another unit unnecessary. Although that's the kind of thing that may change as more and more bits and pieces become playble on the 2x.

At the moment, after all, I think I *would* consider it uneccessary. Lots of fun, but apart from rather slow PSX emulation (I'm judging based on the FF7 videos from 0.10; anyone releases faster videos than that, I'll be change my tune), NG-CD, OpenTTD and the Ur-Quan Masters, there's not a great deal *now* that the GP2x has which the GP32 doesn't - and indeed, when it comes to Snes, Nes, ScummVM or Fenix, let alone all those other things the older system has, the GP32 is actually arguably better at doing what it does - which is unsurprising given it's had 4 years to do so!

Oh, and of course, GP32s never spontaneously bricked themselves.

That said, the growth period at the start of a console's lifetime is possibly one of the most interesting bits of that lifetime, so its a good time to own one, methinks :)

I noticed very easy overclock with my gp2x which means full speed, silky smooth sonic in drmd. It was quite playable on my gp32, but it looks a lot better on the gp2x. I'm really impressed with the way things have progressed in the short period of time the gp2x has actually been out and (especially now drmd is out) extremely satisfied with my purchase. It was a bit of a gamble, but it's paid off for sure.

Is that 8000 for real?? I don't know whether to be doubtful or pleased.

Surely not delivered units. Must be 8000 orders.

At the moment, I have to confess, I'm still using my GP32 for most gaming. (Tho that may change when I get home & put the Spectrum emulator on :) )

But the GP2X is much better for music & movie playing :) I've got a complete series of Red Dwarf and three Wallace & Gromit films on one SD card, which will hopefully allow me to survive Christmas with the inlaws this year ;)
