GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

Because it cannot be fully disabled (and it will be even less "disablable" with the anniversary update).
Installing Windows 10 itself should be a waste of 'battery'. I just need help for my Surface 3 : people from Microsoft came and gave those for free. And I have no idea how to get rid of the OS it comes with. (Windows 10)

A comparison at this point is not possible, as the Pyra doesn't even have proper power saving included yet.
The Pandora also only had a battery life of 7 - 8 hours at the beginning, and now with optimizations, it can reach 12 hours.
My Pandora quite often reaches close to 48 hours since the last OS update. Granted, that's mostly doing nothing but playing a little music for an hour or so of that time, but it all counts I reckon!

The sound-quality of the GPD XD alone has me questioning the GPD win. Unless they made great strides in terms of quality, it seems the hype is a bit hollow.

From what i understand this is the same price-point, with at-least a strange keyboard. And still glued-in battery(?)

The whole OS-bit is new. Android and Win10 are not similar. Did the XD get Android 6.0? Or is it release and forget, like so many other vendors?

What GPD is able to do with win10 is yet to be seen, I'm more-so worried what MS is able to do with it.

I find this to be an odd comment. First off, as can be seen in the "it's loud" thread , a number of us, are of the opinion that the XD has better sound than the Pyra. Of course this is subjective, which is also why I wouldn't say the sound of the Pyra has me questioning it's quality. Because that would be based on a subjective opinion of which had a better sound, and I know some believe the opposite.

If I were to use my subjective opinion . I could easily point out things like how the GPD XD can be picked up for $130. I could easily say that it's dissapointing that a device that's been out for over a year, and costs a quarter of what the Pyra does, actually competes with it for sound quality. A device that costs a quarter of the Pyra should not be competing with it for sound quality - it shouldn't even be in the same ball park. But of course I wouldn't say this, because the nucleus for the comment would be based on a subjective belief of which has better sound ie not fact. Plus they are different devices with different overall costs due in part to their different components. .

In regards to the WIN vs Pyra. Since the WIN has only one speaker now, you can probably say the Pyra will have better sound between the two.

That is actually quite low. I'll charge mine up, unplug it, and let it sit for almost two weeks and before turning it back on, with battery to spare.

When you say you 'turn it back on' does that mean you turned it off at any point? I leave my unit on all the time, and it's configured only to blank the screen when the lid's closed (because I often use it as a media player in my pocket, with the lid closed).

Also, what runtime did you get before this update?

@vcoleiro1

The problem isnt speaker sound quality, i'll use that never, and as a very objective standpoint, it will be bad based on thiele small parameters.
Same as a camera.

In that sense, none is preferable. But if you are going to have one, why not two.

My problem is how utterly craptastic it is done. That was no accident. I'm glad to hear the budget for the Win is a little bit higher, considering parts-costs is more comparable than the final price.

So there is money to do QC, engineering, but you also need to be able to do it. It looks to be failing ergonomics right out of the gate, so im trying to make sense of they keyboard, find something it is good at, and see if i cant get excited about atleast something.

Right now it looks to be an easy way of getting platform indie-games to run, some of which have only win/x86 binaries available.

With win10 being the most horrendous OS to date, with new lows every week, the ability to remove it is the benefit of the doubt i can consider it for. Same as their factory, fingers crossed there. So it's down to x86 linux for me. Which i already have in stationary form, and then we are back to how mobile it is.

If its not as cellphone as my mobile-phone, it's no longer small.

One thing i _really_ could do without is a slate "smart"-phone. And what i cant do without is a laptop.

Ill still have the laptop, but need something the size of a phone, that works like one, that would be great.
Fan-noise is the worst part of current laptops, they have been fast enough for what they do for ages and ages.

GPD win with a fan is like a toyota corolla with a hemi engine.

I mean from suspend. Before suspend was implemented, using low power mode, was probably getting a few days. Now it's weeks.
If you're actively using it then none of this applies, I was talking specifically about what you said about only playing music for an hour in 48: suspend it when not in use and you'll need to charge it once a week or two.

By the way, did they say anything about 128GB HDD Space? Because 64GB is pretty low, only 40GB is usable.

I think they will release higher storage options after launch, like they did with the GPD XD. They have alluded to it at times. I wouldn't be surprised if they also offer a higher RAM version later as well.

Nice :)
Never played any of those two games - but is Dark Souls 2 that slow in reality? It looks a bit slow motion - but that might be the game itself, no idea.

Well, Skyrim would be interesting to see when something happens. Effects like fire, etc. is what might cause issues.
And while it's neat that you can play the game, it would be an issue if boss fights with Dragons slow down too much so you can't play properly anymore.

That's always the issue with such videos: Not only one area of the game needs to be playable, but the full game.
And that's always hard to test.
