Farmville

Dear Omnipotent Life Magazine,

I write this letter to you with much chagrin and a forlorn feeling in my heart. I don't know what to do about my husband who recently become addicted to that new game 'UniverseVille'. I'm sorry to admit this, but with every day that passes I feel less and less in love with him. Is this wrong? I feel so guilty, but I look at my husband now (who goes by the alias 'God') and I don't see the man I married anymore. He seems lost.

It started out as harmless fun between our friends - Zeus, Mars, Mohammed, even that horrible creep Lucifer! At first it gave my husband something productive to do, and he seemed so happy so I let him continue. For the first week I saw a youthful exuberance and passion that I remember from years past... I can say it certainly improved our sex life! How could any omnipotent woman say no to that?

But now I'm at a loss what to do - he keeps playing the game, but the spark in his eyes is gone. He doesn't respond when I talk to him, and the game has him in an unbreakable trance. I don't think he wants to keep playing, as my friends say he doesn't even bother to maintain his game universe or play it properly. When he first started, he would wildy and empathically describe all the miracles and deeds he was doing... which was rather a bore, but he seemed so animated about it, I tried to encourage him as best I could. It was wonderful to see his creative side come out!

Later, he began to lose at the game and entered into a heavy depression. He would often become quite aggressive with me when I suggested he simply stop playing. My husband has become obsessed with winning the game, but his depression has made him lose all that creativity and energy I originally loved about him.

I don't see how to resolve this situation. To make matters worse, our friend Lucifer has been also flirting with me recently. As wrong as it is, I can't help but be tempted by him... as I have a weakness for 'bad boys' (I loved when my husband would pull acts of smite and vengeance).

'God' just sits slumped in his chair, as he has done for several billion years, simply staring at the screen. How can I break him out of it? How can I get back the man I married?

Yours Sincerely,

Mrs 'God'

@ SomeGuy

And what is with people these days? I think it's hilarious that things like addiction to facebook and twitter and text messaging are being recognised as actual real fucking addictions  That is so fucking lame. I doubt very much that we will ever see a news story like this...

***News Flash***

Keith Richards was found dead in his luxury apartment earlier today. One of the founding members of the iconic rock band the Rolling Stones and known for his rock star lifestyle and heavy substance abuse, his addiction to facebook his undoing after a long stint of sobriety and clean living. When recently asked about his facebook addiction in a recent MTV interview Richards replied "what fucking addiction? I used to do drugs through me cock vein! Are you fucking delirious? I only go on the thing cause of that sodding Farmville game. Fucking tarts that made that thing (indecipherable muttering) like crack. Ignorant sluts." Mr Richards was 103.

Are people seriously turning into such gigantic pussies? Do people really like their music to sound like a gay pride rally on ecstasy and their vampires shiny and emo? And to top it off, now their addictions are text based and lonely. I cant imagine a worse fate than dying in front of the pc in a pink shirt, my last status update on facebook saying "having a stroke" and an mp3 of a fucking horribly irrelevant pop song about putting a ring on it if I liked it or some such bollocks on endless loop.

Ew.

This thread has very much hilarity inside :). I haven't played farmville, I am on facebook, but almost never update my status and am not using any applications. It's mostly so my "technically challenged" friends and family members can contact me easily and asynchronically. I used to play Travian, but quit soon after it started taking longer and longer more and more often.

I joined facebook just to set my status as 'people who moan about people getting upset about people who use facebook should get a life'.

If you joined Facebook just to say that, you need to get a life.

I suspect he has one. Besides which, I have it on good authority that he has impeccable taste in web forums.

D.

Suspect? Cmon now D - you´re cyber-stalking me :D

Hmm. Dammit I'm rumbled - I joined there just a few months after you, just as I found out where you were hanging out on the 'net. Don't worry - I'm stalking Goatboy/GovernmentYard now.

I care about my farm. I have a goal of earning a million credits, which I shall use to purchase varying colours of hay-bales with. Then it's a quick trip to a porn-site, a small app to convert an image, and then use the hay-bales to make a really offensive farm.

I do all this because I don't have a Pandora yet.

In case anyone is interested, Mafia Wars works fairly well through Facebook. I've had the best success with the Arora after testing all the other preinstalled browsers as well (FireFox, Midori, etc). The only thing that doesn't work properly is trying to collect from properties. Most browsers crash. Arora simply does not display the frame, just the background shows, but it does not crash.
