Assembly restart. Software work. And maybe our next SoC?

So we might need a split repo or an option to upload two versions one for each chip?
Either two repos, or maybe a repo with a tag for the compatible architectures of a DBP, with a filter somewhere

I wonder: Was the internal Storage also on the CPU Board? So lets say when pull out the Omap, the whole Omap Debian will be still there?
i have my Data anyway on the SD Card, and only the Software from the Debian Repo was installed on the 32gb Internal Storage.. so i would have to flash a new Pyra Debian on SD Card, and then just install my Office Stuff, and Download the Rockship DBPs ..

EDIT: But first i have to screw my Pyra for the new Batterie Compartment ..

Looks always better. My encouragement for this really open source project.
I love the honesty and the integrity of this project, it feels very refreshing. I'm sure my learning curve in hardware/software will increase with a Pyra in my hands.
All the best !!

but I know the 3D games are likely compiled against the OMAP5 SGX libraries.
Why? The OpenGL ES API is standardized for a reason, they should only link against the OpenGL ES library. It does not matter if that one depens on any other driver-specific libraries, they do not become dependencies of the application itself. All you should need is a 32bit version of the OpenGL ES implementation of the GPU driver for the Rockchip.

There should be plenty of space for a multiarch installation to stay compatible. It's Debian, after all.

Awesome dog. Looks like an english sheepdog, what do you call them in German? It's also smart that it seems to understand you if you tell it 'it's okay' in english, unless you normally speak to it in english. Although I guess okay by now is probably a common German word. I know that 50 years ago over here it was considered an americanism.

It's an Australian Shepherd. And I usually say "Jetzt ists gut", so he shouldn't understand "It's okay"... but he understands quite a lot, he often does surprise me :)

The storage is on the CPU board, so the Debian installation for the OMAP5 will stay untouched on the CPU board.

I think some of the DBPs have some optimized SGX libraries built-in, but that's something that can easily be fixed. Normally, 3D uses whatever is available on the system. MESA, the SGX or the MALI from the Rockchip or whatever 3D driver is installed.

So yeah, with properly created DBPs, multiarch shouldn't be a big deal.

Great News, thank you for sharing them.

With the new SOC we will have enough Power to Emulate Playstation2..yayy :)
I cannot await the new CPU Board and when we changing the CPU Board..maybe @EvilDragon ..
..maybe you can sell a "Cooling Upgrade Kit" for little better cooling in the Pyra :)

..aand your Dog is realy nice

I doubt that, as there's no mobile SoC out there that can do proper PlayStation 2 yet.
Yes, the x86 can, but these won't work with a way bigger battery and active cooling fan...

From my understanding by default software will try and use the slow MESA OpenGL ES and not the SGX accelerated ones. Which is why every example I've seen how to compile for the OMAP5 includes:

Code:
export CFLAGS="-I/opt/omap5-sgx-ddk-um-linux/include" LD_FLAGS="-L/opt/omap5-sgx-ddk-um-linux/lib"

As i got the shipping status now, can anyone tell me what version of UHS the sd cards slots are?

Yes it will be not the fastest PS2 Emulation but with AetherSX2 Alpha..there exist a Video with RK3568 and PS2 on Youtube.
It is possible and maybe when Aether SX2 will be more optimized in the Future and maybe Framedropping..
..it should work good enough for most beautyfull turn based RPGs like Ar Tonelico or Atelier Iris 1-3.

Nice find :)
And yeah, stuff like Ar Tonelic could work well.

Though we don't know how much that will heat up the CPU :)

The good thing on a PS2 Emulator where that I have lots of Games for this System, ..

But bevor the PS2 Emulator and the Rockship, whe will get the new Cases:

- are these compatible to the old Cases? , So I can let the Hinge and Display Stuff untouched?
- Is it possible to pull of the Batterie Compartment Sticker whitout Damaging it and put it on the new Batterie Compartment?

Was the Heat Sink Block on this Bottompart, or was it on the Part where the Keyboard and the USB Ports are??

- How to deal whit the Shoulderbuttons? They are Springloaded, so are they under tension, or can I just put them back in like on the Pandora?

- And is it still the First Batch Edition when I changed the Bottompart and the CPU Board later ?
So will it still be worth a few 1000 , when I put the Pyra on EBay in 10 Years..

Thats why i asked for a "Gamer Cooling System Upgrade".
For Fullpower Gamers maybe a little Fan on the Heatsink inside.
Maybe a little Fan on every Air Holes..one for blasting Air inside an one for blasting the Heat out...
...just an Idea..
..for more Full Cpu Gaming Time and a a faster cooling for the recharging System ;)

Many Users do not need that because many do not like Fans but with a little Solution like this..every User will have the Choice by himself

Why not a water cooling system, I've seen a smartphone with this, in summer with 30*C the phone feels cold in my hand. Amazing ! (at least for me)

There is no off the shelf solution to implement something like this and Evildragon doesn't have several million dollars for research and development like Samsung, LG or Apple...

EDIT: It would also likely be a more expensive solution to implement than just redesigning the entire internals of the pyra to better place the CPU for better cooling.

Yes, the upper part stays exactly the same.
I'm not sure how easily the sticker can be removed. It won't tear, but you probably need a bit of glue to reattach it and you will visible see that it had been removed already.

It's on the PCB, so not attached anywhere on the case.

They're easy to remove. The spring is attached to the plastic on the button, so you simply need to push it down a bit when you want to put it back in :)

Ummm... I have no idea what people will pay for it :D

There's no place to fit one. The case would need to be redesigned.
A bigger cooling block could probably be implemented if we update the mainboard at some time (we could replace the full size SD Card slots with MicroSD ones and have lots of new space on the board), but nothing is planned at the moment.
Let's first work on the CPU board :)

Maybe a little Fan on every Air Holes..one for blasting Air inside an one for blasting the Heat out...

That's why you have the GPD Win 3 or similar device ready to buy.
We will never compete with one of those when it comes to speed for gaming - but these will never run without a fan.
You can probably attach a fan on the outside of the case, but not inside it. The only one that fits are really tiny ones which make an even more annoying noise than the normal ones :D

We already applied some of @Asagynoodle ideas, like adding a second heatsink connected to the backside of the CPU board as well. I have not yet tested what difference it makes, but we did that with the units we shipped yesterday :)

Many Users do not need that because many do not like Fans but with a little Solution like this..every User will have the Choice by himself

Well, but then why wouldn't you buy something like the GPD Win 3 or similar?

Don’t worry, I want resell my Pyra, even if it were worth a tiny fortune ^^
If I would worry the worth of this collectors device, I wouldn’t pocket carry the Pyra..
