Anybody considering picking up an Oculus Rift..?

I've tried it with Strike Suite Zero in a convention.

First time I tried with my glasses off (I'm nearsighted) and it was far too blurry.

Then I tried with my glasses on, and it was still too blurry.

I don't know if that's because of the low resolution (maybe coupled with the fact that the game wasn't rendered at the glasses' native resolution) or because it wasn't correctly aligned with my eyes but that was completely unusable for me.

I'll wait for the final version and will give it another try then.

Thats a real downside of the Oculus Rift solution, configuring it to not make it blurry turns out to be difficult. And then it's only for one person. So with more than one person using the same device, it gets boring.

I was also able to try out Zeiss cinemizer http://cinemizer.zeiss.com/cinemizer-oled/en_de/home.html - they've got lenses inside to adjust for near/farsighted people. And the 3D Effect is also quite nice.

also have been working on oculus rift integration for some internal project the last days - after i understood what it really needs, it was easy :)

When it's paired with Gran Turismo. That's the point when I cave.

I would definitely pick one up after seeing more software available.

The only negative I have heard people say about it is the low resolution, but I did see a report that there has been a 1080p version shown at e3 that should help solve that.

I want a new Ace Combat with it. If you ever played the PS2 editions of the AC series, the in-cockpit view was beautiful and fluid (if impossible to play in as one stick was to look around). Being able to enjoy the game in that view mode, in 3D, looking out the canopy for incoming missiles or just staring at my vapour trails...!

I want to watch the movie Lawnmower Man whilst wearing one of these and trying to eat popcorn.
I can see a Virtual Meal sim in this. You appear to be dining in a 5 star restaurant, but actually shovelling cereal into your mouth.

Well, I have waited for something more up to date like this for a long while and I will wait longer.

Fallout 3 (with deactivated camerashit per mod) or FSOpen would be a blast with this, but I do not think, that this tech ist ready for my standards in the next years

Give it a high resolution, fast motion sensors (ok, they seem to work well now)

and a way to adapt it to your eyesight (should'nt be too hard to make?).

Ahhhh, fooling your senses...I like it.  Hamburger suddenly becomes top sirloin....suspension of disbelief inside of just one helmet?  Silly taste buds - I'm going to outwit you tonight!

Maybe with advances in AI, it could simulate your dining companion(s) as well :)

Looks like they've taken the cheap date concept to it's logical conclusion:

veteran game designers who worked on the likes of Rage, the Call of Duty series, Lost Planet, Madden and Planetside 2 are working on an "Erotic Adventure" game for Oculus Rift.

Wicked Paradise, the game is based on the principle that "Instead of watching an erotic movie or reading an erotic book in which the main character has exciting sexual adventures, you become that character!
Now, who's going to start a kickstarter project for a custom controller for THAT?

They already exist. Reddit was obsessed with them a few months back, notably the one that connected to your ipad.

They'll make a lot of money with all the addons.

I would wonder, if there won't be a japanese loli-rape-expansion for it. -.-

They've commented on their new wave of funding:

http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/1gjzse/oculus_just_got_16_million_in_funding_we_are/

In less than a year, incredible game developers all over the world are building games designed explicitly for virtual reality, and people are beginning to understand that the tech is finally viable.

(...)

the funding opens up all sorts of doors for Oculus. It helps us hire the best and brightest minds in VR from around the world. It lets us experiment and prototype with more cutting-edge tech. And it allows us to build a badass, consumer VR gaming platform, the likes of which the world has never seen.
