it probably doesn't identify under the name "Milky Way" -- i mean, really, was it consulted on that? (maybe, like me, it doesn't mind new, non-hateful nicknames, but it may be very sensitive about these things.)
First, most of us were not consulted on the names we are known by, we just accept them since that is what we were called. Second, I know for a fact that it isn't wholly against being called the Milky Way, and is somewhat accepting of that name (and potentially many more). Third, what one thing is called by other things is irrelevant as long as the parties that are discussing understand each other. Does it matter if oak trees identify as such when we discuss them? Fourth, Fifth, pretty sure a galaxy would not think of its whole as a part of a speck of dust it contains, much as a human probably doesn't identify itself as only one its blood cells.
I, as a resident and representative of the galaxy identified by some English speakers by the name "Milky Way", declare that whatever I say regarding this galaxy is true and accurate as far as the Milky Way is concerned. So there. Also, I am the dictator of the galaxy, now. Any that challenge me shall have their home bombarded.
