Seems to me that every single one of the original pre-order customers should just get the badge by default (I say, with #004 and #045 original Pandoras in my possession) .. but beyond that I feel like the whole badge business is a bit .. well .. schoolboy'ish ..
Mmm - actually, I'd say no.
Maybe an 'Early Pre-order' badge or a '2 Months' badge for having waited a long time.
However, the badge was an -item for sale- that you didn't buy. It isn't an arbitrary participation award for simply showing up. It is an acknowledgement that when the Pandora program was at it's deepest point of despair, a few of us put down hard currency knowing that there would be no physical item in return. It's a way to show that when things were at their worst, we stepped in and kept the lights on for the project.
*Pre-ordered a Pandora? Good for you. You'll get what you paid for - even if it is a long wait. No supporter badge, but a 'long wait' or '2 Months' or other recognition badge would be appropriate.
*Purchased a Mini-Metal Pandora keychain? That wasn't a donation per-say - it was a purchase.
*Contributed to the dev fund? OK - this one might qualify for the supporter icon. After all, it's cash laid down to support the project without expectation of a physical item in return.
*Donated -money- when the call came out to keep the project afloat in exchange for a forum badge? Definitely qualifies.
*Invested money in expectation of getting principle and potentially profit back? That would not qualify under these guidelines. You have an expectation of direct value in return for your value.
By allowing people who pre-ordered a Pandora or ordered a Keychain to have the icon, it is a bit disrespectful to those who actually did the action that the icon was supposed to recognize. Kind of like claiming a medal or degree that you didn't earn - it detracts from those who did.
Does it really make that much difference? No - not really. Is it annoying that people who didn't do the action (donate) that is, in theory, a qualifier for getting this are clamoring for 'me too' status? Yeah, it's a bit annoying.
