Squidgesnes With Squidge Mmu Hack

after quick testing - there is problem with saving settings with this release, it doesn't save them. In fact it doesn't even save states...something is wrong with writing files...or with my gp2x. Second, although there is no significant performance boost in ff3(6) I will donate :)

Saving works fine for me :)

It still seems rather choppy to me. Maybe something is not configured right. I tried Castlevania iv and it was very stuttery like it was running at fs 4. I turned off the frame limiter as it was worse with that on. The sound is rather stuttery too. Space megaforce doesn't run at all anymore just black screen.

MUST be your settings. I was playing Terranigma FULLSPEED WITH SOUND without any skipping yesterday (clocked to 266 MHz).

Be sure to have the Frame Limit AND VSync OFF!

DaveC doesn't like overclocking IIRC.

I usually run at 275mhz, and at that speed Castlevania 4 is a rock solid 50+ FPS *with sound* on this new version.

btw, I finally tried turning sound off and boy does that change things! Mario Kart never dropped below 30FPS! With sound it's still in the 15FPS region due to frameskipping.

A very impressive release. I've noticed a minimum of 3-5FPS improvement, up to 10+FPS jumps in some games. With Squidge, Reesy and Pepone working on this, the sky's the limit.

yea i think it's cool that the devs are working together so closely.

back in the gp32 days it wasn't the same. devs helped each other but i think they never actually hacked the emulators of their collegues.

this is great, reesy even said he wants us to donate to squidge ;) that's the spirit!

I do see a nice upgrade in Mario All-star, Nearly 10fps. Maybe it depend of the level?
Mayby. I'm talking about first level of SM3 (the one with flying racoon-Mario).

About my problem with save states...the MMU-hacked version creates the save file but writes nothing into it. Mayby something wrong with my SD (it sure needs defragmentation) or with syncing...

JESUS!!

DON'T DEFRAG YOUR SD!

NONONONONO!

It'll take a whole chunk of writes out of it!

DON'T DEFRAG YOUR SD CARD!!!!

Well unfortunatly not all of us have u83r l337 GP2Xs that can go to 300 MHz. Some of us have lamer ones that crash after 240 MHz ;)

Jesus christ, don't have an aneurysm. The card probably outlives any device that can read or write to it. Ever met someone who has a burned out Flash device that isn't physically damaged (Run over with the car, went through the wash?)

I had an old 32MB USB flash drive die on me but it is very rare. I think the latest SD cards can remap bad sectors i.e. instead of dying it moves the bad sectors to the end of the drive and some even have a bit of extra redundant memory to remap to.

It would probably be more efficient to copy the contents of the card to your computer's hard disk, do a quick format (i.e. just rewrite the fat) and copy the files back to the card.

However defragging your SD card won't make any difference to access times as it has no moving parts and therefore doesn't waste time seeking data.

Edit: Spelling.

I have defragged SD cards many many times. The only thing it did was IMPROVE performance in reads. And no, I have never had an SD die on me due to writing anything.... even the really old 16MB cards I have lying around that have been written to, defragged, formatted, and written to again thousands of times. I think by the time you burn out your SD it will probably be worth ten cents anyway!

I know this sounds stupid, but when I first tried it I thought the patch somehow didn't work for me... it was still very choppy and low framerate... however later I found the cause: I still had frameskipping set to 5 or something like that :p
so in case you don't see any improvement really really maybe you are as stupid as I am and you still got the frameskipping on ;) don't forget to check ;)
