yes, as you see in screenshot, NK is surfing in opera.

this release supports zd1211 chipset wireless usb lancard.
(you can download driver in http://zd1211.ath.cx/)

you may have to use external power supply with usbhost.
(lancard need more power consumption than keyboard or mouses.)

NK is using self-made usbhost circuit with power adaptor, too.

yes, through external power cable with usbhost circuit.

it should be 5V, needless to say. ;)

sorry, excuse my noobness but....

what is this? is it an all-encompassing front end? with built in apps and the ability to launch current gpe's?

does it replace the current menu system when you install it?

is it worth an install for the average gp2x user?

this release is test version and loads cramfs image file.
(so you can't add/remove apps by normal method)

Nothing will be installed. JUST RUN IT!!

and..you may don't know much about linux.
Qtopia is not just launcher. It's powerful graphical environment. (like X-window)
It has huge capacity that ready to use.

thanks prodo, i'll give it a go now.

i lack most any linux understanding but in seeing things about the cramfs i assumed it was a bootup thing.

cheers

Hello,

For those who are interested in i surfed the web with my gp2x through usb/Qtopia/Opera.

The sources of opera i used are these:

Opera7.26

you have to unpak them and you'll get another archive called content. You have to unpak it too and you'll have 2 archives, data.tar.gz and control.tar.gz.
Unpak the data one and you'll obtain an opt folder with a qtopia folder in.
Copy the Qtopia folder to / .

Now you should have a Qtopia folder in the root of your gp2x enter this folder and make
another folder called "lib"

now get this file:lib

put it in /Qtopia/lib and rename it to: libstdc++-libc6.1-2.so.3

now edit the qtopia.gpu file provided with Nk Qtopia and modify it like this:
Code:
#!/bin/sh

# setting QT/Qtopia env...
export LOGNAME=root
export HOME=/root
export QPEDIR=/opt/Qtopia
export QTDIR=$QPEDIR
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$QPEDIR/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/Qtopia/lib <----------here
export PATH=$QPEDIR/bin:$PATH
export QWS_MOUSE_PROTO="USB GP2X"
export OPERA_DIR=/Qtopia/opera_dir <---------------here

# mount Qtopia image
modprobe cramfs.o
mkdir -p $QPEDIR
mount -t cramfs -o loop qtopia.img $QPEDIR

# prepare /tmp directory...
rm /tmp/qtembedded* -rf
chown root.root /tmp

# run...
cd $HOME
qpe-reorgfiles
qpe -qws

# umount
umount $QPEDIR

# terminated...
cd /usr/gp2x
exec ./gp2xmenu

Opera in now installed

if you want too launch it, in Qtopia open a terminal and launch /Qtopia/bin/opera
or the Qtopia explorer and go to /Qtopia/bin and launch opera

The real interest of this is if you have working wifi connection or if you use the Gp2xnetworkingkernel to use the usb as et network interface.

If some are interested i could make a pack for install and remove Opera for Qtopia on Gp2x

Bye

Well, the only problems I noticed is that .JPGs don't work in the Image Viewer of it and that the sound isn't enabled. Overall, I'm impressed by it and will follow the development of it.

EDIT: Speaking of the GP2X Networking Kernel, hopefully one day it'll be able to use your shared internet connection through USB (like how Nintendo's NDS Wi-Fi Connector does).

nice tutorial for opera... is there a tutorial on how to get network through usb working yet? (without ext)
then it would be nice to try opera....

i don't know if there is already a tuto but, i can explain quickly howto make it work.
First get this 2 archive:
UsbNetwork
Rndis Drivers

1-Unpack the first Archive on your SD somewhere, but put the gp2xkernel.img at the root
2-restart your GP
3-once flashed run usbnet_install.gpu
4-now check your windows ip with this sequence under windows: Start->run->cmd->ipconfig
5-check that your ip does not start by 192.168.0 if yes go to step 6 if not go to step 7
6-edit usbnet_on.gpu and do these changes:
Code:
#!/bin/sh

# GP2X IP Setting
export IP="192.168.0.2" ----> change to 10.168.0.2
# Host PC IP Setting(if using internet over usb)
export GATEWAY="192.168.0.1" change to 10.168.10.1

#--------------------------------------------------

# Driver install...
modprobe net2272
insmod g_ether.o

# IP Setting...
ifconfig usb0 "$IP"
ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1

# Run Samba Daemon
smbd
nmbd

# Run Inet Daemon(for Telnet Daemon)
/etc/rc.d/init.d/inet start

# Gateway Setting...
route add default gw "$GATEWAY"
rdate -s time.bora.net &

# Return Menu
cd /usr/gp2x
exec ./gp2xmenu

7-Connect your usb and run usbnet_on.Windows should ask you some drivers.Use the Rndis drivers
8-Now in windows share your internet connection for the new created interface.
9-if you skipped the step 6 now everything is setup. If you execute the step 6, once the share created you'll have to set the ip of the new created interface to 10.168.0.2

i think that's all

If something is missing, tell me.

Bye

thank you very much....
about the opera tutorial, cant you create the opera folder with the libs also on /mnt/sd/Qtopia
then you dont have to wright to the nand

what do i have to to if i allready have a router running on another pc

EDIT:
hmm set the ip to 10.168.0.2 on the gp2x, but after i connect the usb cable to the pc the gp2x crashes. it recognizes this rndis network device but the network kind of crashes also on my pc, applications which use network dont work anymore... (like ping)

hi, this is really facinating to me, ive been thinking about picking one of these up for a while, and wifi would really seal the deal for me, but im kinda confused.

do i have to build a usb host, or can i buy one somewhere?

also, is there a sd wifi card/web browser available?

I did not try on the SD just because of the speed, i did not know it would be fast enough.

First, i guess if you have change the ip of the Gp2x it because the card which allow you to access internet is already on the network 192.168.0. if it's not the case you don't have to change the ip on the gp2x!
Then did you change the gateway too on the GP2x.
Do you have a firewall installed on you pc like kerio or outpost if yes allow the network you declare on gp2x.
Power on you gp2x with the usb already plugged. And try to see if the problem come from the network app or only the usb.

if you use another pc like router it is not a problem as the gp2x network will be translate by the pc (the one where the gp2x is connected) through the shared connection.

i don't know if i'm clear

ok got the connection between the gp2x and a windows pc working on my laptop with xp pro (is it also possible to do this on a linux pc?)
but couldnt get internet working, since i cant share the connection i have..

hercule18: I followed your guides and now Qtopia launches, but then freezes at the main screen.

Both Qtopia and usbnet_on crash for me. Qtopia crashes to the menu, and usbnet_on hangs on a black screen. Help?

Does usb ppl are talking about require some sort of breakout box, or is it just the usb cable from GP2X -> PC like normal?
